Going to post this for anyone who is unsure about the Ember. It's an old review from someone named Ed Harris that explains the science, and why the mug coaster is not a heater. No idea who he is. But I have had 2 Ember mugs for a number of years. "Understanding How an Ember Mug Works Makes It Work Better! June 20, 2017 Color: Black I have had my Ember mug since November 2016 and absolutely love it, so I was curious about some of the 3 star and lower reviews. Ember really needs to do a much better job of explaining this (probably with a cute, animated video), but here is what is actually going on: It looks like many people think that this is a battery operated/heated mug - not an unreasonable asasumption since you do, after all, have to charge the battery. What really happens is much more interesting. Inside the walls of the mug is something that is called a Phase Changer Material (PCM). When I brew a cup of coffee in my Keurig coffee maker directly into the mug, the initial temperature is about 175 degrees with a target of 140 degrees. What the Ember mug does is to extract the heat from the coffee and store it in the PCM. In this case, the material starts out in a waxy form and liquifies as it absorbs heat. This fairly quickly cools the coffee down to the desired temperature, but in the process the PCM becomes a heat storage "battery". Once the coffee reaches 140 degrees and starts to cool, the mug senses this and extracts heat from the PCM "battery" and uses that to maintain the temperature rather than directly heating the coffee using normal battery power. If you understand this is how it works, then it is easy to understand why some people are not happy with the battery life. Basically, the hotter the initial temperature, the more storage capacity in the PCM "battery", and the longer it can maintain the coffee at the desired temperature. My coffee maker at my cabin is a smaller unit that requires me to brew the coffee into a measuring cup and pour it into the Ember mug. I also noticed that the initial temperature there is about 154 degrees. That means that the Ember mug at my cabin can't maintain my ideal coffee temperature for as long as it does at home because the PCM "battery" is not as fully charged. In fact, one day I got busy and forgot to pour the coffee into the Ember mug until it was just under 140 degrees. Normally I would expect the mug to quickly heat the coffee to the desired 140 degree temperature, but with essentially no PCM "battery" charge, it took longer than usual to get to the desired temperature and I am sure it would not have maintained the temperature for very long. So, once you understand this, you will realize that want to brew directly into the mug if possible and transfer it to the charger until it is ready to drink if you can do that. If not, as soon as your coffee is brewed, make sure you transfer it into the Ember mug as soon as you can and it will be able maintain the desired temperature for the maximum period of time. If you do this, I think you will find that you will have no issues with how long the Ember mug can maintain the desired temperature."
That's useful to know so if you want to make green or white tea which is made at a lower temperature around 80 degrees Celsius you should first poor boiling water into the cup for a few minutes then pour it out and then make your tea. This is similar in concept to using a cast-iron teapot.

Probably the wake up lamp. I tend to rise with the sun naturally so I feel like it would help me a lot specially in the winter when the sun doesn't rise until late morning.

@@annagarrett9707 the ember doesn't get hot on the outside! So it's like a normal mug and only is heated inside (and in my experience only when there is liquid in it) so I think it'd be a better option for safety!
I almost bought an ember at Costco the other day... I haven’t had a hot coffee in 5 years because #momof3 Also definitely putting out my Mary statue because she has lived in my closet and now I am inspired!
I have to say I love my ember mug and their customer service is top notch. They replaced my charging saucer for free when it stopped working and then another time replaced my actual mug when it started chipping inside. Top notch love it!
I stopped the video and added the ember mug onto my wish list. I have a bad habit of making coffee, getting distracted, and then remembering the coffee after it’s already freezing cold. My birthday is coming up. So I’m hoping that my husband gets my heavy hints on wanting the mug. Lol love the video!
Cool things! That mug seems great. I didn’t know hoop earrings had been out of style and now are back 😅. I couldn’t live without mine, either large, medium or small.
Okay... thanks Rach! I bought one and just received it, and I’m low key obsessed with my coffee mug! Where has this been all my life!? Thanks sooooooo much!!!💕
I had a coffee warmer in the 90s when I was in high school. It kept my coffee hot. It worked great! Also, the mr coffee warmer is good for candles too.
I have two of the Mr. Coffee warmers. I've had them for years. It keeps my Coffee warm when I need it. The Ember mug sounds great but it won't be useful when I finally go back to work. It wouldn't get used much.
Love the video! Just FYI, pampas grass is considered an invasive species in parts of the US and other countries. It produces a ton of seeds so it can out-compete many native plants, and the grass itself is very flammable, so it's not good for places that are prone to forest fires. It might not be considered invasive where you live, but it would be worthwhile to put a disclaimer for your viewers about it!! www.britannica.com/plant/pampas-grass
I use the mr coffee all the time! Especially for my tea at night, I’ll brew my tea then set it on the mr coffee and it keeps it warm basically until I’m done drinking it which can take a while sometimes lol
I can see my cat eating those pampas grass. Also I remember picking those up when me and my family took roadtrips , it’s called flor de caña here and you could literally pick a bunch right on the side of the road.
Rachel! I know you LOVE coffee... trust me I know how crucial is.. but the trouble with sleep cut out coffee completely not even decaf..May be one cup in the morning but none throughout the day. I had the same trouble due to new baby, screen time, unending chores and what not. But cutting out coffee did it for me. Also, a nice book to listen too while you doze off. I really hope you feel better. 😊
I have a coffee warmer, not the mr coffee one. I have it by my bed, so that when I get coffee brought to me in the morning, I can hit snooze over & it totally keeps my coffee hot till I wake up enough to drink it. I do not wake up easy so it’s been a game changer for me!! I also use it for night time tea, I can make it, put it on the warmer, go wash my face, do my skincare & then come sit in bed & drink my still warm tea. I love it!
yeah - that candle lighter thing scares me. 10/10 would have tried to zap my little brother with something like that as a kid just to see what happens (yeah- siblings....)
lol you can cut pampas grass literally on the side of the road, I live in Ontario too, specially Durham region and it grows everywhere. It’s that natural/ beige tone but if you want it lighter you can spray it with peroxide and bleach it in the sun and you can even dye it different colours with fabric dye
The first hospital I worked at, we would use those candle warmers for candles and our coffee, open flames aren’t allowed obviously and while we had our morning coffee it would keep it warm too 🤗
I absolutely love my ember. I take forever to drink my coffee, or I’ll wait for it to cool off and forget about it until it’s cold. The ember keeps it at the perfect temp. Also, I picked basically the same custom color lol!
Oh, that lighter is IN my cart! I like the Ember mug, but I have a 20 oz. Yeti cup that keeps my tea and coffee nicely hot AND I can take them with me when I leave the house.
I have that mr. coffee warmer and it works great if you keep your coffee on it from the start. HOWEVER it bubbled my desk where it was sitting and the rough bottom of some mugs scratched the heck out of it
Quick tip for the lighter, this should be a given. But keep away from little hands. my 3 year old got a hold of mine when we were camping and lit the roll of paper towels on fire with it.
I L❤VE that Mr Coffee mug warmer, it lives on my desk and I use daily 💯!!! I've had it for 6 mths and IMO, at US$10.99, it offers huge value for the 💰. 10/10 would recommend as an excellent affordable option for anyone looking 😉.
I have had a cup warmer on my desk for about 15 years and I love it! I drink tea, it does not keep the tea at the temperature when first made but it keeps it from getting cold. I have a low and high setting, always use the high, the low is kind of useless I think. The first one I had was a promotion from Campbells Soup.
I would rec to get the pampas grass at a craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. You can see the quality firsthand there. Want: that light! Already have: the lighter was a Christmas gift and I am OBSESSED.
The pink spots in pampas grass are actually totally normal- they grow that way. Pampas grass can be pink in the wild, and the beige/pink varieties are very genetically close, so sometimes there will be pink spots within the beige plant.
I thought that maybe it was dye from some other dried grass or florals prepared in the same place. Still safe.

I LOVE my Ember mug - don't know how I lived without it tbh. It's one of my favorite things!
Would they be bad if I have little kids they touch everything and I'm not getting one like the mr coffee one because I don't want them hurt
@@annagarrett9707 the ember doesn't get hot on the outside! So it's like a normal mug and only is heated inside (and in my experience only when there is liquid in it) so I think it'd be a better option for safety!
@@liftbakelove ok thank you so much for the reply I will definitely have to check it out
@@annagarrett9707 Sure thing!
I almost bought an ember at Costco the other day... I haven’t had a hot coffee in 5 years because #momof3
Also definitely putting out my Mary statue because she has lived in my closet and now I am inspired!
I have to say I love my ember mug and their customer service is top notch. They replaced my charging saucer for free when it stopped working and then another time replaced my actual mug when it started chipping inside. Top notch love it!
Thank YOU for putting the Canadian links .
Black n white or Sepa prints of your family in wood frames above the hutch .
I stopped the video and added the ember mug onto my wish list. I have a bad habit of making coffee, getting distracted, and then remembering the coffee after it’s already freezing cold. My birthday is coming up. So
I’m hoping that my husband gets my heavy hints on wanting the mug. Lol love the video!
I have an electric candle lighter too and I love it so much. One of my favorite Amazon purchases for sure.
Thanks sooooooo much!!!💕
I think that a real or fake cactus plant would be adorable for your table. Or maybe even a zen garden.
We really want a part 2! with this video I have new ideas to give as gifts. I love it 🥰
I had a coffee warmer in the 90s when I was in high school. It kept my coffee hot. It worked great!
Also, the mr coffee warmer is good for candles too.
The Ember mug should be on every new mothers wishlist!

Ok... Now I know exactly what to answer hubby when he asks what I want for mother's day!
It's so extra is you have more than one mug in the house.
(Proceeds to show Christopher with mug)
Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Definitely getting the mug!! Not just for coffee but hot tea or hot chocolate.
Fun video! 👍🏻I got my son-in-law the Ember Travel size mug this past Christmas. He loves it. Now my daughter wants the size mug that you got.
I would still use the fluffy things despite the lipstick. Put the lipstick in the back!! They were super cute and FLUFFY!!!!
that baby blue sweatshirt really suits you! beautiful as always💖
I'm most excited about the mug, even though I hate hot coffee🤣
I love your Mary statue! Very lovely ^_^
I love these types of videos!
Love the bowl!! I have one that I purchased on my travels to Belize some years ago. I use it to hold my remotes on my coffee table 😊
What size hoops? Cute! I got the Ember mug for Christmas- love it! Also I've never used the app. Overall life-changing for me, an all-day tea drinker!
I'm definitely the most excited about the Ember mug! Super bougie for someone as cheap as I am lol. Maybe going on a Christmas wish list though!
Where did you get the lovely Mary statue?
lol you can cut pampas grass literally on the side of the road, I live in Ontario too, specially Durham region and it grows everywhere.
I need that mug....I NEED IT! And my cold coffee next to me agrees!
The pampas grass trend cracks me up. This is the plant that every house in the south has at the end of their driveway 😂
I can't even begin to imagine how anyone deals with the shedding!
That alarm thingy is intriguing. Gonna look that up right now.
My mom also has Cattails with the Pampas Grass , sprayed with hairspray and they lasted for years . Our pampas grass was very tall , like 6’ .
You can also use the mug warmer to warm candles that are burnt down but still have was left!
these are my absolute favorite type of videos!!
The Mr Coffee thing looks like a hyped up $4.99 candle warmer (Michael's) and I can attest to that keeping your coffee warm 😁
I got my pompas grass from crate and barrel. I really like it! It does shed a lot in the beginning, but once it’s styled it’s not bad
I literally came on youtube to watch something on Rachloveslife and boom a video pops on this channel!❤️😂
Omg Now I know what to have my husband get me for Mother's Day/my b-day ember mug!!
