FYI.......forget about screwing around with removing the black plastic. It will take you hours if you are lucky to get the screws out. Just cut it off with a Dremel. You don't need it. It just gets clogged up anyway and makes cleaning the inner electrodes impossible. You are Welcome.!
I have one question on this.....if the starter is dead, does that affect just the bulb igniting, or does it also stop the screens from being electrified? I have a no light, no zap with my Stinger, the switch pilot light comes on, but only that.
I have the same zapper as yours. I took it all apart and followed the steps you provided in the video. Very helpful. I bought the (FS2) fluorescent starter at Home Depot (2 pack) for $2.79 Bug zapper is working perfectly now. Thanks for the help.
Hey man, thanks for the video. Just repaired mine tonight, this video is bang on. Replaced the starter and the light came right on. I'm now hoping it just doesn't start a fire through the night. :)
i have been contemplating fixing few bug zappers, just happened to turn your tutorial on and viola! fs2 has the parts one needs. Thank you , you made life a little easier today
great on that problem and the fix,however...i got a uv15 that the bulb works but no high voltage across the screens,i wonder if bulbs get weak,is there a link that stops working that ties in with the transformer, both my bulbs are weak and if thats the case then i must try a new one to see if the high voltage runs again,i must take it apart and check circuits out for the high voltage.
Wow this is a piece of cake 🍰 for you. I have a stinger bk500 I have it for 3 summers already I use it indoors so it’s very clean and it served its purpose for killing bugs that sneak in when I open and close my door. But now when I plug it in all it does is the bulb flickers on and off and after about a minute or so it also Zapps on its own.what could the problem be?
I have 2 Stingers, neither were working. I spent $3.18 on two of the starter bulbs, and 1 came back to life. No idea what is wrong with the other one, but at one of them is now operational. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video! I got one question though. What was wrong with your stinger when it wasn't working. was it just that your bulb didn't light or was it that the zapper didn't work? I'm asking because my light works but there is no zapping. I took my stinger apart and the starter bulb is black like yours was. I just want to make sure that replacing the starter isn't just a fix for a bulb that won't light. Because if it is I might have a different problem.
Do you remove the compensator from the FS-2 unit and only use the fuse bulb? I tried the FS-2 unit (fuse/compensator), the UV bulb fickered and would not work. Inspected the FS-2 unit and the fuse was burnt. Tried another FS-2 without compensator and nothing happened?
My Stinger (possibly a different model) does not have the starter bulb as yours does. There is instead what appears to be a capacitor(?) across the bulb contacts. I'm thinking about removing that and adding the starter. Any suggestions?
Great Video. I tried to overthink it and use a 40w starter since the bulb is a 40w bulb for UVB-45, pack says to use for 40w bulb. anyhow it didn't work. used the 20w starter as in your video and bingo!
hi there, love the video....I have the same zapper.the circuit board is totally fried and I need to identify one last component on that circuit board.Anyway you could help?....the corner where the red wire is sodder in,there is a bigger black component!!! Regards ,Kris
great video, but I'm so not mechanical, can I send you mine and you fix for me...for a fee of course! It seems like such a waste of money to buy another one after this has only been used a few summer seasons!

Mine just needed a good cleaning

is it powerful like a flowtron? i know the new stingers are not as powerful as the old models

I was about to do same, Thank for posting.
I guess what they say is true.......HSV really does have rocket scientists...Thanks
Wal-mart has the replacement bulb too.

jesusremains Sorry for the delayed reply. The starter was bad, so the bulb would not come on. If your zapper doesn't work, you have a different issue.
2 weeks, got a new one, 2 weeks, same thing. the light is on, but no one is home.
Daniel Landry I have the same problem....bulb is on but no zap
if the bulb goes out will the zaper stillbe charged or if you stick ur finger in will it shock you

the Stinger I'm working on doesn't have an obvious starter. It has a small thing that looks like a fuse. It that it?

This from the 70s or what

+Krisztian Galfi-Duca Sorry, but I do not.
Kris, here is a pic of the circuit board. Looks like it is a transistor. imgur.com/a/gqFtP
will this work on an stinger UV801N? would i have to use a 40w starter?...i would like to know thanks
My apologies, I just read your comment. I got a new bulb from Home Depot.

Seems like a lot of BS for a 40 dollar unit?
