I am a table tennis player myself and have never seen an umpire taking so much influence in a high class match like that. All she wants is attention. It is unbelievable how she destroys the concentration without even explaining what she is doing wrong. Some serves are not perfectly after the rules but without any advantage getting out of it. Also the yellow and red card are totally over the top. Shame on that lady that only wants to have a short moment of triumph there.
Obviously you haven't play table tennis for long. She explained that the serve was not tossed high enough. And the only reason she gave both of those cards, was because Ding Ning did not agree and you are not allowed to second guess the umpire.
the toss has to be above the net line. so it was legal. Again some refs are stricter while some are lenient. The umpire completely overreacted with the yellow and red card. Played State for 4 years just so you know
+T Cheng, after going 41:49 make the video speed x0.25 slo-mo and measure the height. the rule is you have to throw it at least 6 inches high; no matter how up your hand is already or how much down you let it fall. here you will see she barely thrown it up, she just hit the ball after falling down. +Ayush Krishnan Chakravarthy, please please read service rules before making public comment. +Keenan Southall, well said
Certainly the umpire spoiled the match, even though her servicr was kinda gray.. It's a FINAL OF THE OLYMPIC. She did not seem to undeterstand the significance of the match. "Suspicious" should be treated as merit. She hundred present should not call faults. Beside that, Li's performance was said to be way higher than Ding, both mentarily and technically. I reckon Li would win anyway even if DN wouldn't get any faults. LXX was something else on this match.Amazingly stable and calm.
8:10 , 100% fault 17:20, 100% fault 41:40, the ball isn't visible in this angle so it's hard to see, but most likely the height of the toss wasn't enough from Ding's hands. A very good call, but maybe a red card was a little too much, especially in a stage like this. I feel bad for Li Xiaoxia because all she did was play better than Ding here, she did nothing wrong and she had to be in this controversy and isn't getting enough credit from people
Actually most ding's serves have problem. She always throws the ball with an angle towards herself, not vertically like li. So it's not the judge's fault at all to punish her.
Either way, the Referee's decision will be debated, whether she made ruled against Ding Lin or not. If the Referee did not make these decisions, people will start calling her "not enforcing the rule" or "unfair"
The stupid judge just ruined the game. This should have been a very brilliant game, technically li is stronger, but mentally dn is magnificent. If not mentally as strong as Ding Ning, this judge might just ruin a career of such an excellent player. But still thanks to this mean woman, without you we will not see a queen of heart like Ding Ning today, one of the best ever in table tennis.
@@wallacechow7892 no not high enough vertically it was good . But ppl don't understand the rules you have to throw 6 inches and let it drop 6 imches not hitting it right at the top of the throw
How can you not get it? Individual sport and the 2 best players are from China so they play against each other. Just like tennis, sprinting, badminton, and pretty much every other individual sport. LOl
It's actually Li Xiaoxia who was hurt by the call. Li achieved victory all by her skill, she won simply because she was better than Ding here, but stupid people are complaining about the decision. The serve was fault. Maybe giving a red card was a little too much especially in a match like this, but what really should be criticized is, not the umpire, but first, the people who are not understanding the situation properly and just shouting stuff like "The umpire ruined the game." - No, she didn't ruin the game. Second, Ding Ning - Her attitude here was far from appropriate nor true sportsmanship behavior. Yes, I know this is the biggest stage in the sport of table tennis, and it is natural to be very upset&frustrated if you get calls like that in a big stage like this. Very understandable, but still, it was not an appropriate behavior, people just don't get it. Ding Ning has become even better after this event and has accomplished so much more especially after 2015. She is really one of the greatest female table tennis players of all time - very true. She beat Li in 2016 Rio Olympics and she deserved the gold medal - so true. But the umpire ruined this game?????? This match is fixed??????? Are you kidding me? Li Xiaoxia dominated in terms of skills in most moments in this series. She was clearly the better player here and she well deserved this title. I am sad that the top comments in this video are the ones that are talking about the umpire calls and just complaining about it.. People are not giving enough credit to Li Xiaoxia and don't understand how strong she was in this 2012 olympics.
In the Laws of Table Tennis, Law 2.6.2 states: 2.6.2 The server shall then project the ball near vertically upwards, without imparting spin, so that it rises at least 16cm (6.3 inches) after leaving the palm of the free hand... Ding Ning serve at 41:40 ??? .... very creative. Never seen anything like this !!
First, the stupid umpire knows nothing about a legal serve. Second, Ding Ning was so emotionally fragile face to an unfair judgement. Hope she learned a lesson from 4 years ago and beat Li XX in Rio.
is Li X X ability under than ding ning.?!?whaaatt? ! boey You have TO get your brain checked.Li XiAoxiq is faster than Ding Ning and her looping quality is better too. also she has more Power than Her. I thought dings serves were fine, i hope the video was checked and any action needed was taken. Ding plays all over the world and im sure shes not had an umpire like that before.
My question wasn't specific to table tennis. Practically any Olympic individual sport can potentially come down to two athletes from the same country facing off in the finals.
+Yong Geun Song Because Ding Ning didn't start her serve right away, instead she reach for the towel, maybe to wipe the tears from her face. I suggest the referee call that a violation because Ding Ning delayed the game.
I see this video many times, ding ning did make some serves not valid, either not vertical, or not high enough. She got 2 points lost, because first point is the invalid serving, second point is taken for her throw the ball back while she was supposed to serve.
you're wrong. look carefully and you'll see that Ding Ning's mental is by far stronger than Li Xiaoxia's. that's why she was so close to win the second set.
Yea, Li seems mean, no heart and everything, although they are taught to be cool when in match, but she didn't even apologize for a let ball... She seems to be a bad person to be with
It's a strategy and China really are people of competitiveness. It's more heartbreaking for them to lose against their own team rather than losing from other countries
So unfair. If the judge takes the dominance in a game, then the game is pointless. Shame on her. Now that she likes spotlight so much, she should probably get her authority ass off that high seat and apologize.

Find a measure for yourself and check where 16cm is, it's the length of a female hand. NO ONE would throw a ball lower than 16cm, it's almost impossible..
ok, serve is legal, but it is not the reason Ding lost. Liu was better and she deserved. And a champion cannot be destroyed by such a small case, in that time Ding was not ready enough to become champion in that time. no need to be unfair and scorn Liu's success and effort

Basically it also shows that ding ning didn't get concentrated or focus enough while she serves, she did make other 30+ serves valid anyway.

The camera should be move to the far Left or far Right so that the player doesn't block the view too much.

我觉得丁宁的发球不是特别标准,但球证的判罚未免太严厉。这令双方无法发挥最佳水准,丁宁输得不服,对奥运留下阴影,李晓霞也赢得不完美。
