had the privilege to visit beautiful Iceland and the blue lagoon just after the last eruption, I actually brought a rock home from the bottom of the lagoon as a small memento. I hope the people are safe and the blue lagoon. Good luck Iceland ❤️
Truly unfortunate. My heart goes out to the hardy people of Iceland. The Blue Lagoon is a huge Tourist Draw that I'm sure Iceland Tourism relies on for its GDP. I wouldn't wish Fire on anyone, let alone a Volcano. What an incredible Fissure.
Lmao!!😂😂😂 That dude trying to convince us that he was completely unaware of an eruption that has been ongoing for months must truly believe that we're all complete idiots. Nothing and Noone could possibly convince me that he didn't plan his entire vacation around the faint hope of that exact series of events taking place. I have no doubt whatsoever that he is delighted to have crossed another huge item off of his bucket list that day
How could any sane person 😅plan a trip to the Blue Lagoon in 2024 without being aware of the active volcano that has been spewing lava over the entire region for the past several months?
We actually don’t get news until after we came back, where I just now found out that I missed this one by just a month, but they do say they monitor the geothermal activity so if they say it’s okay then it’s okay.
@moonbuni59 I'm confident that the government and the managers of the Blue Lagoon did everything in their power to keep them safe. I just find it shocking to hear that the man interviewed for this video was willing to admit, in front of God and everyone, that they had no clue that they were renting a room next door to an actively erupting, fissure volcanic system
I’m not an expert, but have been following these eruptions. Generally, these flows aren’t too bad for air quality unless they were to hit the ocean. Very locally it can be bad, but the prevailing winds in the area blow most out to sea.
The police evacuate people when they think there is a possible or imminent threat, so if the police are calm then he is calm because they receive orders to evacuate if the behavior of the volcano changes. Unless you have the geologists and volcanologists on speed dial which you don't you would have to rely on police for any significant changes to be concerned about should they arise.
The money they spent on walls around Grindavik could have been used to build a new town. It just does not make sense to keep trying to save it, the sink holes tell the big story there, it is lost to the fate that was always going to happen where the plates are pulling apart.

Blue Lagoon is a tourist trap.
This is totally normal for Iceland. Nobody lives where the volcanoes are. Nobody will be hurt.
Iceland’s tourism industry will do quite well with or without Blue Lagoon. Was in Iceland last month and already planning a 2nd trip
Disneyland in Iceland. Tourists have fun running for their lives from a massive volcano spitting fire just 1 mile away from Blue Lagoon resort.

I was there at the Blue Lagoon two weeks prior and got the same warning. Cool to see on TV but glad I wasn't there in person.

Icelandic people are very used to this. It’s part of their lives. I used to live in Iceland too for 6 Years Cool Pl.. No trees😂
Imagine the C02 being emitted by this natural event. Which reminds, me how's the surfing in Tofino?
If this was in Canada, Trudeau would tax it for it, and than NOT use that money to make a difference.

Volcanoes release less than a percent of the carbon dioxide released currently by human activities.

There's never an overlay showing the height of those eruptions.
I hope the people evacuated from the Blue Lagoon were reimbursed because getting in there is quite expensive.
Why would they be reimbursed?
Yeah, greedy customers are STILL queuing even as it erupts 🤑
They knew the risk when they went there.

Wouldn't trenching help divert the flow allowing communities to remain safe ,?
They’d have to dig 20 mile (32 km) deep trenches to stop that flow

because its a "notable event"
I am sure that people the might have family or friends living or vacationing in Iceland might want to hear about it.
It's something to keep track of... if this explodes, it could interrupt air travel for most of Northern Europe.
