I think it would be an interesting video topic where you show us the prep work that goes in before a painting. Like, thumbnail sketches, gathering references, choosing a color palette etc.
Commissions are my main source of income at the moment and I'm also doing youtube and patreon on the side. I love doing commissions as I get to draw so many beautiful pets and I love making my customers happy:D
this new style of yours with the lighter colors and this particular more realism commision is beautiful:) all of your art is wonderful but anyway just wanted to say that:))
This was SO helpful and really timely for me. I did a few small commissions a while back and have been battling with the idea of starting larger commission work. Thanks for always sharing such incredible advice 💜💜
I don't know why I got so angry and frustated to see the censured thing on this painting..I found it so silly and it got me thinking a lot!!! But I totally understand it. The painting is super beautiful by the way!!! I really love the lighting :)
When you just can´t decide what you love the most about the painting. The backround, the colors, the beautiful face or the wonderfull hair. Just everything is sooo nice in this! Also I had like. . . 3-4 commission since last year. I really would want to do more, but I just don´t find the people that want one
Great video, Happy D. Your videos are always so inspiring and most of the time exactly what I need - I will be launching comissions in October, so your video came out just in time :) Thanks for being such a lovely person and a very skilled artist.
I've had multiple people ask me to paint things for them before (mostly portraits...) And I've always kind of brushed up off with a "sure maybe" until enough time would pass and then they'd forget it. I struggle terribly to do art pieces I have no interest in and most of all I'm afraid I won't be able to do their likeness justice. But you're videos given me a gentle kick in the right direction, thanks 😊
Hey Happy. I am an aspiring artist, and I would like to ask you something. I feel like my art isn't good enough for commissions, but I want to start them and sort of experiment. I'm scared that no one will want to commission me. What is your advice?
@Happy D. Artist - I'm asking 'cause I really enjoyed it: will you make another "Art & Chat" Video ? They were super relaxing and nice to watch while drawing! ^^💕 Greetings from Germany!
I only had like 2 commissions in like the past year, and then now I stopped cause I felt bad cause I felt my art is shit. but I've been practicing, and I really got it down to a 2 day minimum span. but I don't know much about postage out of my country. so I'm scared about that. and I'm going away for 2 months to another country, (and thats a different realm, of post office environment) so I don't want people to wait that long to receive their commission. but I'm gonna take my break to revamp and improve my art, before I start taking commissions somewhere next year. which is like a few more months. hopefully. ugh. pray for me!
I was wondering what commissions were a few days ago😂😂its a very beautiful painting!!! Your videos are honestly like my guidelines through my art career... Can you please make a video on how to get your basics in drawing and painting clear?? I want to start oil painting but im not sure about how to strengthen my drawing and watercolor painting abilities before starting with oil..... i would really appreciate it a lot!!♡♡♡
I already sometimes do some commission being a painter and artist always make your paintings behind the moods just to save money to buy art supplies and just go with flow make sure that your landscapes or portrait is okay
People you know or people you find through somone you know are often the worst clients. Much easier for them to be rude than it would be to be rude to a stranger. And they might not be as into art as someone who searches out a stranger so they might have no idea what a**holes they are being.
Dārta Petruņko probably because it's oil paint, and you know, oil is oil. It's disgusting when it gets on your arms, that's why she's wearing the glove too. I believe it'd be so that she can easily paint without touching the canvas at all. I'm just guessing, but yeah, at this angle I guess this works
hello happy i am very interested in purchasing a few stickers and prints but the only way is using a paypal account and i do not have one....do i have to have one to purchase.???
Hi, I have a question😊. Do you use white paper when you draw with a Pencil or do you use light gray paper? 💗🍁 I ask because when I draw on white paper and I wanna make highlights with a white pencil, than I can't see my highlights.( Because my paper and my Pencil is white)😯🤗🤗💗❣
Highlights with a white pencil won't work on white areas of course! They need to be on color to be visible so you have to try gray or toned tan paper or any type of paper just not white. They will show however on the colored drawing itself of course even if it's on white paper.
Has it happened to you that a client has rejected the commision after hearing the price? I've done a few commisions and got a big one just recently and though of asking for at least 500€ because the size of the canvas she was asking for is huge and the reference photo is the most detailed reference I have ever worked from (a photo of a city taken with a drone) and because I got rejected two times before (asking for 70€ for an oil portrait), I only asked for 200€ because I wanted to get it (I'm a bit short on money:D) and she agreed imediately. But now I kinda regret not asking for more because there is so much work with this one and I have used a looot of paint already. Sorry for the long comment.. if you did read it by a miracle I would really appreciate if you would address this topic of making a choice on the price sometime in the future :)
you're so talented it looks amazing and i have a video idea it's painting an indian girl like with the clothes and makeup please and again this is very beautiful it looks like spring princes i hope I'm not being annoying ❤
I'm in seventh grade and I want to start doing some commissions for people at my school so that I can save up money for college, but I'm not sure if I should actually do it or not, or if I should wait until I'm better at art. I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback/advice:)
Well, I'm planning to start doing commissions next year, in high-school. The thing is, I'm a traditional artist. What about delivering the actual piece? It's not a problem for digital artists, but for traditional ones, I've never seen it being mentioned. When I pay for something, I'd want it physically delivered to me(not just some photo I mean). What is your opinion on this guys? Maybe have the commissioner pay the fee or just pay it yourself? I just don't know what to do!
Fire Of Time Generally you would mail the finished painting. As for shipping cost, you can factor it in to include it in the price of your commission. I'm not to sure on that part.
So did you have your commission contract drawn up by yourself or a lawyer? I’m new and I created a piece for someone, took me a while and then once it was done, she didn’t have the $$. So in the end, I never received a dime. She 1st said, oh I wish someone would do a book illustration of my life...I never responded to her on that.
Why youtube dont remove videos like Anaconda from Nicky Minaj for example, or some of the videos of Rhianna, etc?? TH-cam has double standards. Well anyway, i love your work. Thank you for taking the time to make videos for us. Kisses and good luck.
I noticed you sell prints of your commissioned work and before that for some reason I thought I shouldn't do that? It's not a bad thing is it? I guess??? the artist is allowed to sell prints of specifically commissioned work right? Or just the ones that you have creative freedom in? Do you need the commissioner's permission? someone pls assure me
i'd love to do commissions but i dont think people online would pay me for my art, i cant even do it properly where i live. art is highly neglected here, the only art people are willing to pay for are tattoos but i draw traditionally
I think it's sad that art has to be censored on youtube, in fear of loosing monetazation (?). It's not pornographic, so I don't see the problem. But I'm glad you upload and do the censoring so that we can see your art anyways. It just shouldn't be that way. BEAUTIFUL painting, as always.
I wish I loved commissions. I actually hate them with every fiber of my being. I still do them but I feel like it’s taking away from what I really want to do. It’s so hard for me to do them and feel happy about it. Gosh. I would love advice to get me into a new mindset. But I would just love to not. Like ever. HALP!!’
You did your first paid commission in high school? Damn. What if you hate customer service jobs??? Is it possible to be an artist without doing commissions?
I'm actually experiencing a slight dilema.... I am really improving at art, I am very near of the level I want to be, and I feel like I got much more proffessional, and in a lot of ways more serious, about everything- the art itself, but also delivering art by time, communicating with client etc. So I asked my friends for some advise..... They said to me "Sure, but, if I were you, I would wait you know, I mean you're probably gonna be better in few months, half of year, and I feel like that would be a bit rude to your clients, for you to deliver a varied quality for when actually giving you money....". Then I also asked what my art is worth to them, if they would be my clients... So I got a reply: "Oh I'd pay...let's say....8 dollars for this. The only thing I'm interested investing my money in your gallery at the moment."... 8 dollars, for original realistic graphite sketch of ballerina, format A4, which took me around 6 hours of drawing, in a hard perspective (even a ballet teacher told me it's hard perspective). A part of me screams for opening comissions, since I've wanted now, for a really long time to make people happy with my art, to give them something they will cherish, will bring out emotions in them and overall just.... To give. And making money out of the thing I love the most, and spend most of my time practicing... Yeaah a dream come true. The other part of me is just telling me to wait, and agrees with what (most, except 1 friend and my mom) said... Would it really be that bad if I open comissions now? Like... Would I be a hypocrit like my friends indicated if I do that or.... I'm just really confused lol anyone out-there with similiar experiences? Any advise will be apprecciated... *sorry for enormous comment!*
Hey Happy🤗🤗🤗🤗 actually I never saw you drawing or painting a man or a boy😑😑😐 pls pls pls.... I request u if pls u can make a boy s painting or drawing pls 👦👦👦🙏🙏🙏
I think it would be an interesting video topic where you show us the prep work that goes in before a painting. Like, thumbnail sketches, gathering references, choosing a color palette etc.

I have a comision, but I late a mounth with the paint. What shoul I do? To avoid or to talk with the person about a new termen?
I already sometimes do some commission being a painter and artist always make your paintings behind the moods just to save money to buy art supplies and just go with flow make sure that your landscapes or portrait is okay
Plus really love your painting happy d it makes feel something I know of my life keep it up
Can someone tell me is line paper better for drawling or sketching or blank paper?
i did a comission for my mom recently... worst client ever lmao
Myro F. Gasaraisum ,lol
OMG same lol
Yes!! my mum is so picky and just judges everything. Like don't use that of blue or changes her mind when I have already started it.
People you know or people you find through somone you know are often the worst clients. Much easier for them to be rude than it would be to be rude to a stranger. And they might not be as into art as someone who searches out a stranger so they might have no idea what a**holes they are being.
Mine isn’t really even paying me 🙄
Beautiful! It would be fun to see you drawing some different body types as well. Just a suggestion! Ilu
Hi i would like to know how is the support, is wood or canvas?
I've been meaning to ask you what is that weird brush that looks like it's broken?
Dārta Petruņko probably because it's oil paint, and you know, oil is oil. It's disgusting when it gets on your arms, that's why she's wearing the glove too.

I'm currently working on my first commission. It's for my step-mom who just wants a painting of a vase of flowers.
Wy did you choose to do oil paintings, who inspired you and what is it like using oil pastels
I'm pretty sure Happy answered at least most of these questions(or really similar ones) in her 'Why you should not be afraid of oils' vid 😊
Can you make a video about leaving your comfort zone and in the video can you paint a man? I would love to have your advise about that😊 thank you!
4:03 just made me laugh for some reason, no offence love yah 😊
This is awsome
how do you get a commission from her?
What oil medium are you using? My issue is with fumes. :-| Nice work!!

Same, I'm not familiar with painting men. I've just been drawing and painting women for years, it's just become a more comfortable subject to do.
