I'm a lifelong conservative and I fully support Nina Morrison's nomination to the federal district court.
▪︎ The United States has both the world's largest prison population _and_ the world's highest incarceration rate.
▪︎ With just 4% of the world's population, the US holds almost 25% of the world's prisoners.
▪︎ The US has less than 25% of the population of totalitarian communist China, yet the US has almost 50% more people in prison.
▪︎ Nowhere on Earth is a person more likely to go to prison, and stay there longer, than right here in the Land of the Free.
▪︎ The US population is either inordinately prone to criminality, or there's something drastically wrong with our criminal justice system.
▪︎ For Sen. Hawley to call the US soft on crime when we imprison _far more people than_ Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakistan, Turkmenistan, Zimbabwe is mindboggling.
▪︎ Nina Morrison has spent her whole adult life fighting for innocent people wrongly convicted when the entire criminal justice system is totally pro-prosecution is why the Cato Institute and several other conservative think tanks and public interest law firm support her nomination.
▪︎ But fret not, even if she's nominated, the US will still be far and away the world's leading jailer. And it is due to that sad fact that I hope you son is never charged with a crime - but if he is, pray his trial is in Ms. Morrison's court.
