    That transformer is worth more than scrap value. Amplifier builders would give a fortune for it. I know basic audio transformer can be worth around 50$. You can get around 100-200$ for this one

      I agree. Those things are beautiful!

    • @shoppy00
      @shoppy00 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I agree. Just bag the transformers (one of each type) and head down to your local audio store, the guy there should be able to give you a good ideea about what they are worth.

      go to diyaudio.com and ask in the channel. those are worth $200-300 to the right person. some of those are $300-400 new. those power amp moduals are worth alot as well don't scrap them put them up on ebay or in the diyaudio

    • @russellhltn1396
      @russellhltn1396 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While the amp may not be worth a lot given the condition and the odd name, I'd think the major components are worth quite a bit more than the scrap value. At least the transformer and heatsink should be. Someone could always take the case "as is" and build their own circuit boards.

    • @alan30189
      @alan30189 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, it always cracks me up when these scrappers scrap something they could sell as-is, or in parts, for 10 times or more what the scrap value is, and not have the labor expense to tear it down.

    Love the unusual stuff, thanks for another great vid. If the copper wire from the transformer is heavy enough gauge you could soak it in cola overnight and see if you can turn it into bare bright or #1.

  • @the_real_foamidable
    @the_real_foamidable 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wow, this was really fun, thanks for sharing.
    I wish I had a place like yours nearby to get some components for my projects. I would just desolder the stuff I need and give you a couple of bucks on the way out, instead of always ordering new stuff from china all the time. Here in Germany the scrapyards are city-owned and they refuse to give anything out again.

  • @daviddavis7569
    @daviddavis7569 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The transformer is toroidal type, as already said it's worth much more than it's copper weight. People pay good money for them for projects.

  • @williamb.jenkins3100
    @williamb.jenkins3100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've opened one. First layer is aluminum wire and the second small wrapping is copper. Less than one pound of both. The center is layered steel. Mine didn't contain ferrite.

    Thought it would be boring when you opened it. But it was pretty interesting. I'm glad you sacrificed one for the viewers. I like the coil of steel, there's a lot of projects that could be used for!
    👍👍

    • @CatNolara
      @CatNolara 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not steel though, but silicon iron alloy. It has better properties for magnetic stuff like transformers, motors etc.

    • @shaneyork300
      @shaneyork300 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Klaufmann
      Thanks for that comment! I didn't know that. I thought it would've been just sheet steel, which I personally wouldn't sell to the scrap yard. When I was watching it I was thinking of so many projects it could be used for.
      What kind of properties are in it and are you able to capitalize on it? (Regarding personal use, or resale)
      Thank you!!!

    Put the toroidal transformer on eBay, just add the voltage info to the description.

  • @4kays160
    @4kays160 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those transformers are amazing!.. youl get a few 100 each easily.. they would be awesome to make a king of random style metal melting electro furnace with the two graphite rods from batteries, just use one graphite rod in the lid as a positive and a graphite crucible on a negative charged pedestal so when the lids shut they touch and the graphite glows and metal mets in seconds.. not to mention im in love with those heatsinks!.., i collect weird and large heatsinks(dunno why i just love them for projects) they would make really good blast tubes for caravan or mancave air coolers..

  • @karllowry488
    @karllowry488 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    That plug on the amp Ben is same as the UK the top prong only opens the wall socket so the two bottom prongs can slip in the bottom prongs will be brass the top one can be made of anything 👍

  • @Dirt-Diggler

    nice one mate :) not scrapped one of those before so great to see inside one, i do like scrapping new and unusuall items, especially industrial stuff, it's allways made so much better than the commercial grade crap people throw away after a few months cos it broke lol not that i'm complaining, that's how i makes me money.
    Ever done an industrial microwave? usually twin trannys and magnetrons, very nice motors for projects in them as well as switches, i sell a lot of microwave switches as they make handy limit switches for simple motor control in models and the such and i bet some of the more interesting heatsinks would be great for prop work in movies and such, a few of those round ones would make a great barrel surround for a lit laser cannon or the like.
    Keep it up chap ;)

      I have to agree, those transformers are worth quite some money, even used, especially in this size. Saw someone putting two similar sized toroidal transformers in his CNC router control box, they are quite robust and efficient.

    there is a fairly good chn that those large transistors or power mosfets have gold inside for heat transfer to the heat sink about 70 % of them on pc boards do. it may not be a lot but it is gold.

  • @MichaelBerthelsen
    @MichaelBerthelsen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Same with large numbers of high-amp capacitors, although I think it depends a LOT on quality on that one too. At least you might want to reach out to any such communities where you live, ask whether they're interested in some things you might get in, once in a while. =)

    i found aa 10 kg coil a year or so ago out of a medical unit i rescued from the kangabin at the back of the hospital i was working at in Wantirna. was massive!!! almost caused the entire peice to fall off my work bench... i decided to strtip it down and it took ages lol but i think i ended up getting about 7kg of copper out of it leaving behind a big 3kg rolled steel core. still have 2 smaller ones in my shed but not sure i will strip those, be great for door stops or paper weights...

    Shouldn't it be possible to calculate the amount of copper and ferrite in it with the numbers of specification? I know those donuts can have diffrent amounts of winding since there is diffrent patterns to wind the donut, just like a regual transformer. If I'm wrong, please clarify, I'm don't have a very wide knowledge in these kind of things but I do want to learn, but my math isn't great so I just don't go there really.
