  • Home to North America's Largest Barrier Reef and the world's 2nd, it is no doubt that Belize is home to a plethora of marine animals that includes Sharks! At least 7 kinds of Sharks call Belize home, one of which is the Nurse Shark, a docile kind of sharks that typically lives in coral or rocky reefs.
Just off the coast of Ambergris Caye is a marine reserve called Hol Chan or little channel in Mayan. It is here, specifically in the Shark Ray Alley where shivers of Nurse Sharks lurks and live.
We took this opportunity to join a Catamaran Sailing Adventure organized by Xsite Belize to explore this part of Belize. After cruising for about an hour, I collected all my guts and jump into the water to witness this calm kind of Sharks go on a feeding frenzy. It was an epic experience and an educational one as well. I understand more about this creature that is often feared by most people. Armed with this knowledge, it allowed me to experience them safely and enjoyably. Now it's for the world to know and understand.
