It is disappointing that only A'Rou is punished for framing Ruyi. The Emperor knows his queen is the mastermind. It is an early sign of his weakness that he didn't depose her. The Empress Langhua was deemed "worthy" by the Emperor's parents, and they insisted on her - but she was responsible for the deaths of many of the Emperor's children, including her own sons, Yonglian when she forced him to stand in the draft for a morning as punishment for being sleepy when she wanted him to study, and Yongcong's death was revenge by one of Gao's servants after her death. If the Emperor had married Ruyi as his Empress, Langhua wouldn't dared to have given Ruyi and Consort Gao the bracelets that caused their infertility, she wouldn't have had the power to murder children, or plot to kill her rivals. The Emperor would have had legitimate children with Ruyi, Langhua wouldn't have been able to poison the other pregnant women, and so many of the other children would have survived. The Emperor confesses when Langhua is dying that he knows all the many heinous crimes she committed - and yet he still pretends Empress Langhua (Xiaoxianchun posthumously) was a virtuous Empress, and tells Ruyi she will never be as "good" as this pergurious schemer, murderer of women and children. At least in this fictionalization, the Emperor lives to regret his weaknesses and mistakes. Wallace Huo is a wonderful actor. When Yanlan must face the prayer flags of each innocent life she took, you can see on his face that he knows *HE* is as responsible as she is.
