      Be like me and think about how it will serve as a bug out vehicle, or urban boon-docking if you cant pay your rent and have to live in your vehicle for a spell, or as a great place to haul your long guns, targets, shooting table, chairs, cooler full-o-beer (not that I'm promoting shooting and drinking mind you. . . "cough-cough"). A great way to carry mountain bikes, gear, and people to the trail head. A way to haul "big stuff" from lumber, to furniture, appliances and do it on a level that competes with a truck (except for hauling 'dirty stuff'). A more comfy alternative to a stripped down utility van.

      Mightz Of Glory Jesus tap dancing Christ. Proof positive that any comment section is an internet garbage dump. What we have with your comment is a perfect example of a person of minimal intelligence attempting to sound intelligent by stitching words together in a sentence without applying any ACTUAL critical thinking. Save your horse shit for your conspiracy theory forums. I have three kids, a wife, and two dogs. I like this van because it's a logical and useful tool I could use to get ourselves and our copious amounts of shit from point A to point B. When I was 21, all I had was a hangover and a stack of student loans that could bankrupt a small nation and I thought minivans were for thirty something suburban moms and dads that had mailed it in. Now I am one. Hence, my original comment. And subsequent inability to suffer fools. Goodnight

      You are kidding right? We hate plenty of FCA vehicles to their core. But this is a huge step forward for them gotta give credit on that.

      The most important feature to consider while purchasing a 2017 year family vehicle should be safety features such as collission mitigation braking.
      Adding a bunch of screaming kids to our everyday drives that are already full of distractions can be quite overwhelming.
      These safety features that are slowly becoming standard these days can save lives and limbs.
      It is standard in the 2017 Toyota Highlander and a thousand dollar option on all trim of the 2016 Honda Pilot.
      I agree with you 100% that people who need real passenger space and utility should stick to minivans. However people with just one or two little children can get easily get by in a mid-size SUV, without feeling like a van driving chump.
      I appreciate the engineering of the disappearing seats, but do people really need a full flat floor cargo van? It's quite neat, but I don't see this as the most in-demand feature.
      It was also weird to see you recommend this van despite the problem-prone 9 speed ZF. Just because it is a great improvement upon a Chrystler product, doesn't make it a great family buy. Problem-free transmission and safety features are not too much to ask if you look at other choices these days.

    The Pentastar engine in this generation and the 2016+ Grand Cherokee have the 2 stage variable valve lift (not just timing) system. i.e. Chrysler's version of VTEC. This helps provide the strong top-end power. Also has cam phasing for variable timing, which is something the Honda SOHC J-series V6s don't have. Pretty advanced stuff. With an aftermarket intake you would hear the crossover point engage. Amazing engine.

    180kmi on my 05 Odyssey. Raised a family with it, used it for dog hauling, stuff hauling, moving, as well as hauling my entire kart racing setup to the track with it. 3.5L engine was bulletproof and plenty of power. Handling was on par with most sedans. I often tell people that minivans are the best all around and most practical vehicles on the road. If you look at the 'big picture' of your car ownership life, you'll get it. Nice to see Chrysler did away with the monstrosity of direct injection which means that this might be a vehicle I'd consider buying used at some point.

    I agree with your comment about the crossovers. My wife and I had a look at this today in a showroom, and I sat in the third row and it was so comfortable and I'm 6'2" and 140lbs. All the switch gear felt excellent and the quality was first class. The seats were so comfortable. When the time comes to buy a new minivan, we'll be getting one of these. Fantastic size for taking our two dogs about in. And with the Uconnect system, you can start the car from your phone. Plus my wife liked the 911 button on the mirror and the assist button, just like Onstar. Chrysler have done a fantastic job.

    They are sharp looking vans. Gotta remember that this is a vehicle for moms to haul kids in. My wife still loves her ancient grand caravan that we raised our family with. We may get one of these someday when they are used for about $10K and the long term issues become known. It may have good performance and such but in reality they will spend their lives putting around at 35mph to school and soccer games. Does it really need 9 speeds? No. 4 or 5 would be fine and eliminate constant shifting. Constant shifting concerns me for longevity and the 3.6 clattering at startup is worrisome. I wonder if they fixed that. Touchscreen everything is also a concern. It may work for 5 years but how about at 10-12 years? Will this be a money pit?

    • @swanblake
      @swanblake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ssavagegeese I mean I know those in the know would just be winter tires and your fine. However the majority dont like cars and think awd helps them stop faster in snow as well. See every SUV in ditch. Like you I have always championed the mini van but it seems like automakers still do not get the market. Everything on this van is great, except lack of AWD. Sorry just frustrates me as i have recommended this and the Kia Sedona and am always immediately asked if they are awd.

    • @swanblake
      @swanblake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neezy Ko I hope so. I think this could kill the market with awd. The hybrid is just dumb given how it compromises the van-ness by losing the store and go seating.

    • @swanblake
      @swanblake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Neezy Ko Good to know. The Sienna also now has the most HP in its segment with the bump in output from the revised v6. But its soooo ugly. I know thats subjective but man do I think that is the ugliest car and im the guy that loves the spindle grill on Lexus. Never realized that Chrysler actually changed the integrity of the seats but would make sense that the stationary seats are more comfortable. Good points

      True I think they are working on it. When I purchased my Cherokee in 2001 I was prepared for massive reliability problems. They never came. My jeep now has 300,000 miles on it. Original trans and engine.
      I would get an extended Chrysler warranty. When it was about to expire if I had no problems keep on motoring. If I had problems sale with 1 year left on the warranty.

      There are tons of Dodge / Chrysler minivans still on the road with tons of miles on them... he's right about alot of the quality on some of the stuff and certain things failing at 80 to 120k. The parts for them are very inexpensive and easy jobs.
      The market segment that tends to have purchased these sometimes as the 2d, 3rd or 4th owner tends to be a segment that also does 0 maintnance on anything until its actually broken. even the old ones for the cost were good minivans.
      The new ones look like they have learned some lessons and made quite a few improvements

    6:19 that is why I had no problem with the previous gen Town and Country. The price was so much lower that the Toyota and Honda, I had no problem replacing in my case the radiator, right front break caliber, alternator, power steering reservoir, Brake Master Cylinder, oil and tranny gasket and brakes of course by 100k miles.

    A big determinant between buying a minivan vs.a three row crossover, is AWD availability of crossovers. 70% of the US receives snow in winter, and the use of wide, low profile tires on modern car's, don't plow through the snow like the old narrower, higher profile tires with softer rubber did, even with front wheel drive. I'm also not convinced of the strength of Aluminum for the front control arms, especially on cars this heavy. I'd rather have solid iron ones, regardless of any handling or weight penalty. Savagegeece: Thanks for testing an average vehicle, us car lovers don't all love sports cars.

    Hopefully those quality improvements will lead to reliability improvements. Because Chryslers in my household certainly have not been reliable with fit and finish and electronics. But our 88 did stay in the family for 15 years. But our 94 had transmission problems after only 70k miles. That being said, I would need to lease one of these newer ones and see how they fair before I am comfortable enough to buy one with the thought of keeping it.

    I just bought a just bought a 2019 Touring L yesterday to replace my 2010 Town and Country - there is no comparison between the two vehicles.
    I will say this about three row crossovers (I also have a 2015 Dodge Journey) - they make a great second vehicle. I use my Journey as my daily driver, and it's big enough to haul my family (4 kids) in a pinch. I would never consider it for regular family use just because it doesn't have the size of a van.
    The Pacifica though? I haven't seen anyone say anything bad about it anywhere. The 3.6L Pentastar has been around since 2011. It's also in a LOT of Mopar vehicles. Other than the 2011 rear cylinder head problems (which were recalled and corrected), I haven't heard of any widespread issues with it. The Advanced SafetyTec Group - I can not say enough good things about it, and I've only got 15 miles behind the wheel with it. You just don't realize how good it is until you drive it, and then drive something else without it.

    I'm a 33 year old man with a family and vans are the best, I like them way better than most SUV's or crossovers. I don't get why so many people are down on vans, especially one's on the market like this one.

    Nice! We had a ‘17 Pacifica and loved the way it rode and drove. Wifey didn’t want the stigma of a minivan after awhile so we traded it for a crossover. I wouldn’t mind ridding my wimpy 1.5T Equinox and get one of these used, especially if the price is right on a used one, and so what if it’s a minivan? 🤣🤣

    As someone who has looked at the tunes of Pentastar engines in HP Tuners.....there is lots of timing being pulled a lower rpms and lots of torque management. Take those out and adjust them and it really wakes the vehicle up

    Love these SG reviews. This almost makes me want to but a Chrysler minivan, except wait! I hate minivans! And Chrysler! My mind is opened a bit and I do agree 100% about the utility and good sense of a minivan versus a 3 row SUV.

    There's honestly nothing wrong with these new minivans, it's the early to mid 2000's which gave them a bad reputation lol

      I bought a 2001 caravan with 300k miles to escape from a pot farm in California to the midwest. That thing was great. I drove a 2015 Caravan rental for a work trip and it was the second worst road vehicle I've ever driven behind a neglected University Chevy Suburban from the 90s. The early 2000s Caravans were good if you got the V6.

      I would say from the introduction of Sebring things got really bad. Mercedes took full control over Chrysler and ruined it, then left it to die. There was also this idiot Bob Eaton who came after Lee Iacocca. Eaton wanted to get a gratification fast, made a lot of bad decisions in short time, and agreed to DaimlerChrysler merger. He is also the one that made the decision to make neon's 2.0 head gasket from graphite, to save literally less than 10$ on each vehicle, while making cars unreliable.

    Nice review, made me think about a minivan over a crossover. But, Chrysler's reliability record is horrendous. Turbowski around 6:00 - There's a reason Chrysler was cheaper than the competition- everything failed sooner. Around 8:00 - This is a vehicle people will buy for the long haul. No matter how brilliant it is (and the Pacifica's ideas are brilliant), if it's going to be a pile in a few years, there's no point in dropping $40K+ I wonder if this is the same old unreliable, cost cuting pig with a nice coat of lipstick. That's what would stop me from buying it. Maybe consider it after 3yr reliability ratings come out.

    LOL.....Great review. I didn't see this until after we got our new Pacifica.....but yes...on everything. You pointed out the things I would, and clearly drive like I do...:D It feels like an alternate reality for me to love a Chrysler Minivan...how is that even possible? I drive a Maxima, and I drive it hard. This was for my wife.....I would rather drive it then my Maxima on any day. Should financial realities change, I would be happy with two Pacificas, perhaps when the possible AWD version comes out we shall go that way....it's that good. If a Jason Statham action movie character drove a Minivan this would be the van for his plan.

    It was a good drive. The middle seats were much more comfortable than I thought they'd be, and oddly were probably more comfortable than the driver seat. I'm not sure that's a good thing. It certainly did have some hustle.
    The middle seat back was broken, the shitty plastic peg was bent. The power folding rear seats couldn't coordinate the lowering of the head rests with the collapsing back and got stuck half way down. There were gaps, the left trap floor didn't sit exactly right, it was as if a B crew did the whole thing. It did not engender confidence in the build, and... The one on the lot was $50fucking,000 which is completely insane.
    Over all we'd have picked the Sedona if we had decided on a minivan, but went with an AWD GT CX-9 instead. Been really happy so far.

    What attribute I didn't hear covered is the isolation of the cabin from road/tire/engine noise, a big deal for drivers/passengers as they grow older. Some of the newer and upscale trims on the Pacifica seem to emphasize it as a driver car, a performance car, a slick handler, great tire/wheel packages, etc. Does it live up to any of that superficial sizzle or bling on the outside?

    I watch a lot of people driving around in a suburban or some other monster SUV. If you are not towing, then there is little need for a full size SUV. These front wheel drive minivans cut through snow very well and if you put on a set of snow tires, they will go through almost anything. A set of snow tires on their own rims will cost $1000 or less.
    The interior space is fantastic and the gas milage crushes any large SUV. Minivans just make sense. The sliding doors make it very easy to get in and out in a parking space that a large SUV would not even fit in.
    I get that some people say that minivans are just not stylish or cool, but I guess if they are willing to pay at least $10000 more, pay much more on gas and deal with trying to park a huge SUV that they are not going off road with or tow with, I will resign myself to just not understanding the large SUV phenomenon.
    Forget 3 row crossovers...why don't people buy wagons? I don't understand anything.

    Not just level of refinement with Vee sixes over turbo fours in larger vehicles: there's a long-term reliability aspect too. The turbochargers are on boost for a greater proportion of engine run time, and thus will wear out sooner than they might on a lighter car, which demands a lower duty-cycle over, say, five years of typical driving.

    I've been looking forward to this review ever since I came across your Chrysler Town & Country review. Since you're reviewing Chryslers, can you please review a Chrysler 300 (preferably any model besides the S) & the V6 Chrysler 200? I've seen so many videos with fully loaded v6 200's on TH-cam, and they actually look like they offer a ton for the price. Likewise, those same videos never have anything bad to say about them, even though the comments sections are full of negativity. It'd be great to watch some pile banter between you & Turbowski on those cars.

    Chrysler's history of pathetic reliability is the only concern I'd have with this vehicle. Let's see what people are saying in late 2017 once some miles are on them. FCA really needs a solid offering, maybe this will be it.

    Unfortunately the longevity on this 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid sucks. My van engine light came on every few weeks the day after I bought it used. The dealership sold it to me and it was a lemon after I got in and drive it a couple months after I bought it. Now it’s been in the shop for a month and are working with Chrysler on how to fix it. They are replacing the whole computer system and wires and harnesses. Still not completed.

    this, sir, is why I love your videos. on top of Easter eggs like mentioned above, you have the ability to review a car that one may have literally zero interest in, and make me care about it within the course of a 20 minute video. kudos to you, you've got a lifetime subscriber here.

I'm interested in a Pacifica but Chrysler doesn't have the greatest reputation for quality. I need to know whether they're going to be right there for me when something goes wrong.

      If you maintain them very well and don't drive as a jackass on a regular basis, they'll give you many miles of very little problems. Major issues with the powertrain and major electrical, such as the alternator will last a long time.
      The things i find that are problematic are rear wheel bearings and brakes, tend to wear prematurely.
      I had 3 generations of these minivans, a 1997, 2003 and 2012. These were the most common issues.
