I see the Chiltern Mainline ones quite a lot as they pass through my home town of Bicester. I don't think that they look ugly, they just look powerful. I've nicknamed them "Boom boxes" 'cause they do kick out a fair bit of noise!
Vossloh sold the rail business that made the Class 68 to Stadler, so depending on when each 68 was built, they’ll either have been manufactured by Vossloh or Stadler. Vossloh also branded the 68 as UKLight, a name which Stadler still uses for this loco.
Beautiful sounding engine, miss not being pulled by them from York to Scarborough and yes people some people did complain about the noise they made at Scarborough but if you live in Scarborough, you’re on the coast and there’s lots of noise from people partying and noisy bikers and tourists 🙄
In the UK it will be called Vossloh. Hmm. I wonder why they aren't calling it "Eurolight", as elsewhere. (Actually Wikipedia says they're calling the UK variant the UKlight.)
It may be an engineering "marvel" but it has received many complaints from residents near rail lines for its noise when operated by TPE. Check local media.
hi there, sorry these are not for me, at my age, they may do the job but its not a british design, the driver can't even look outside the window,will stick with the class 40 and locos of the first generation

I like the look & the liveries of the class 68,although they are quite noisy at the platform whilst awaiting to depart.

Looks like they're going to be succeeded by the new Class 93's soon, as they can go 10mph faster than the 68's.

Some of the greatest diesel locomotives were ugly as sin. But they get the job done.
Don't put down the Class 68's because they're not British made.
Still think Class 88 is superior
