I think Charlie laughs at 5:19 cause when Philip Seymour Hoffman talks about his character, he's really also describing Charlie

In a way, Caden is an everyman, but he's also the archetype of the tortured artist trying to escape/transcend the meaninglessness of life by creating his own masterwork, the causa sui project that he hopes will outlive him - but even that never ends. He only truly finds meaning and peace when he integrates his anima (the feminine aspect of himself visualized by the cleaning lady) and accepts the role in a way that humbles him. Wonderful film with so many layers.

I'm not sure you can "catch up" to something so original, creative, truthful, absurd, and ultimately moving. You are Caden. Caden is everyone. You are everyone.

Which ways have movies caught up to it? I can think of films such as Moonlight, or Columbus, or any other wonderful films. But are any as ambitious and attempting to represent the whole of the human experience? Uhh, no. Because Charlie is the GOAT, and pulling it off was a miracle in itself. Who wants to attempt the near impossible after such an emotionally resonating film on that idea has done it already?

Just so everyone knows, this isn't a meeting of the two. It's clips from different interviews edited together. Which is why their conversation flow doesn't make sense.

Are you referring to this Charlie Rose interview about Synecdoche? Or the faked “conversation“ between PSH and Robin Williams that’s been making the rounds recently, that has taken Hoffman’s words from this?

Watch his first Rose appearance ,(for Adaptation, I don't think it was Malcovich,,) Rose opens with "So, what is your approach.. to movies" ... Charlie goes ,,"Oh...good question" which the tone was sincere but there was the most subtle hint of sarcasm, because the question is so broad and open-ended it sounds like a joke.

No other film captures what it means to exist like this one, it is certainly much closer to the best film ever than anything else.
