I have owned both i love the zj more, coils front and rear v8 option more roomy longer wheel base, but really you cant lose having either one both can be built to be awesome rigs.
Just got a 98 zj fully loaded with the tow package...got it for a song. Replaced the throttle body and an 02 sensor and shes running great. 164k miles on it, rusty rockers but I think it's in great shape to be beat on.
@@countryslickerofficial it looks like the zj in the video doesn’t have rockers. Is that true, and is it safe to remove them with no replacement? I have a 98 limited that I just bought and I’m new to all of this, but I want to remove the rocker panels and or install low profile ones
@@CANT_FEAR_YOUR_OWN_WORLD your correct the zj has them cut right out, they had rusted out pretty badly so I removed them with a die cutter and have folded them in and just rust painted it, no issues so far at 2 years in.
Both rigs are great, but the lighter weight of the XJ will go a long way in not breaking stuff. I had one for eight years. Now I have a cream puff ZJ that'lremain street sweet with just a 2" puck lift and 30x9.50 KO2's.
This video was so good, I own a 1997 Zj, I’m currently trying to get it back running, it kinda does but the two oxygen sensors are not working and the gas comes out of the exhaust as white smoke, im really excited about it but it’ll take time, cause economy in mexico ain’t good at the moment 🇲🇽
Mine did that too 96 5.2L. The ECM was bad. After I replaced it, it ran perfectly. From what I've heard & read, sometimes the soldered connections break loose inside over time. Inside the ECM right where the wires connect to the circuit board. It's also pretty common for the soldered connections inside the headlight switch and the 4x4 information center to come loose. If you haven't already got your ZJ repaired and running? I'd jiggle the wires that plug into the ECM and then try to start it. Or remove the ECM open it up,find the bad connection(s) and resolder them. It wouldn't hurt to check the fuel pressure and make sure that the fuel pressure regulator is working properly. Hope this helps you out. 👍 And make sure you disconnect the battery before messing around with the electrical system.....
Fun video! I literally just thought I lost my 242 as well but it was the front driveshaft. Quick call to Tom Woods and he sent me out a front to match the woody I have in my rear! 🤣
Great video. Taking nothing away from the xj driver but my man could have covered those obstacles with better driving without a spotter. Zj driver was a better driver, but over all great vid.
I’ve owned both. Like the zj more. More comfortable, easier to find in good shape, v8 option is nice too. Xjs are great too but a good one is usually $4k vs a zj could be bought for $1500 all day.
The rock ledge was bad spotter. Sucks about the 242. Go with a 231. More aftermarket support and Tera Flex makes a 2 low kit for the 231. Have it in my ZJ
im with ya I think spot could have been better. lucky enough my transfer case is ok! turns out I lost a cap on one of the u joints that caused the front double cordon to fail. already slapped a new driveshaft and new steering linkage into it so should be back on the trails in no time! currently in the states exploring the desert but when we are back def some new vids to come asap
Planing on buying a jeep got few options XJ with either 2.5TD or 4.0i and ZJ 5.2, wich one should i get, im planing on putting 33inch tires, planing on using it for trail, bit mudding, going with my friends, doing pulling with my friends pajero 3.5 v6 and terrano II 2.7TD. So wich on should i get, shoul i go for XJ cuse its lighter and more relaible, or go with ZJ for comfort and power?
@@countryslickerofficialMost are in good condition, everything is original, no rust, whit about 200-250k kilometers. I heard that Zj has some problems with transmision, that it breaks quick, is it true or? And is 5.2 relaible as 4.0i
@@mirorados7208 def not true on the transmission the 42re is a great one as long as its properly cared for. I believe it is the same transmission between the xj and zj. Now that said if you could find an ax15 5 speed one those are sick. as far as reliability the 5.2 is definitely solid. 4.0 probably a bit more reliable but not by much again if you take care of it it will take care of you.

id agree with that. do wish I had a v8 that would be a nice edition.
ZJ for me all day, I have one with the 5.2 318 mopar motor and I freaking love it ! 4.5 inch lift on 33’s and she spins those tires ! 💪🏼
Less money on light bars and paint. More money on locker and suspension

Im still super happy with my zj too and it is nice to have some options
Drones and Jeeps are my 2 favorite things! But I am a WJ owner . 4.7 6in lift on 35's.
gah im jealous, long arm lift then? love a good wj

That sucks about the breakdown, Hopefully Pick N Pull or Bucks has that Jeep so you can salvage some parts cheap
