  • Two thousand years before the incarnation of Jesus Christ, God promised Abraham that one of his descendants would redeem the world. In this message, R.C. Sproul depicts the significant moment when Jesus announced His fulfillment of this promise and declared Himself God in the flesh.

According the Proverbs 8:22 Jesus was God's first created intelligent being. The other verses show Jesus, as God's only begotten son, helping God in the creation of everything.
Colossians 1:16 because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and on the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All other things have been CREATED THROUGH HIM and for him.
Not created BY him. Jesus was a master worker and designer as Proverbs 8:30 shows. He used his God given wisdom, naturally. That is why Proverbs 8 talks about WISDOM.

In God's grace and mercy, He chose to remove the scales of all mens eyes. Jesus said, "When I am lifted up on the cross, I will draw ALL MEN to Myself." And in Psalms, God tell us that no man has an excuse on judgment day. God has put the knowledge of Himself in every man's heart. In John 3:18 we are told that those who hate the Truth say no to it. Thats not because God didn't pull the scales off their eyes. The rich man and Lazurus story; Abraham tells the rich man who is in hell, pleading for someone to go back and warn his brothers of that furnace, that his brothers could read the scriptures any time they want to. So you see predestination and free will go hand in hand.

If we move the comma so it reads : before Abraham, was IAm, we can see why the jews were so infuriated at Jesus' statement. He bore a powerful testimony of Himself. He simply told them that in the pre-existence , He existed before Abraham was even born. He was the one who led Israel out of Egypt and through the desert. He was and is the Son of God the Father; the great I Am, the Jehovah of the old testament, and the Jesus Christ of the new testament.

Actually, the Lord is a substitution for God's name.
(Isaiah 42:8) I am JEHOVAH. That is MY NAME; I give my glory to no one else, Nor my praise to graven images.
The 'I am; word connection only will work in the English language with some translations.
Let us see what happened after Jesus said he existed before Abraham.
(John 8:59) So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid and went out of the temple.
Are we to believe that Almighty God who created this power packed Universe ran and hid from the Jews? Surely!!!!

After Thomas said what he did, we didn't hear of the others saying, "What Thomas! Jesus is God?"
Then all fall all over the place worshipping Jesus.

The message is clear, the Whole World is lying in the power of the Wicked One, and we are All in Darkness without the Light of the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to enlighten us, we have no hope in this World and are destined to Judgement.
We are born Sinners, Sin is in Our Flesh, the desires of the eyes, the heart and the mind are continually directing us into the way of the World, 1 John 2:16-17.
The 'Lamb of God' the 'Son of Man' willingly gave His Life to bring us back from Darkness into the Light of Life. But do you truly know the 'Only Son of God', the 'One' who upholds all of Creation, Who breathed Life into Adam, Gen. 2:7, and who visited Abraham, Gen. 18:13-15, and Sarah? Compare ESV: Isaiah 44:6, I am the 'First' and I am the 'Last', Revelation 2:8, ...the 'First' and the 'Last' who Died and Came to Life.
    May you be Blessed.

"Before Abraham Was, I AM: Knowing Christ - The “I AM” Sayings of Jesus"
Kind Sir; Very possibly THE greatest title I have seen on TH-cam. Thank you for doing that brother in Jesus. (Sorry for the VERY long "comment". But I believe it NEEDS to be said)
I would like to espouse what my feelings are on the words "I AM". For to me they prove things that many Christians do not believe. Sad but True.
For probably 60% of the Christian World believe that Jesus is ONLY the "Son of God". I believe that to be literally "Blasphemy!". IE:
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh (Jesus), justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was within God, and the Word was God. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh (Jesus), and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
And on and on and on.. Forever! Praise Jesus' Holy Name!
Brethren: Jesus IS God Almighty; who manifests into 3 Heavenly entities:
    1. The "Father"
    2. The "Son"
    3. The "Holy Spirit"
Meaning "3 equals 1". And if you say, "That is IMPOSSIBLE!" As many do...listen to this...
Matthew 19:26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
...In any case kind Sir, Please Pray OFTEN and Praise Jesus OFTEN; for He is the ONLY true "God Almighty"; there will ever have been. And may Jesus bless you and yours always. AMEN!

However, you need to read what I said; more clearly, kind Sir. For I didn't say Jesus was "being the Son of God". I said (in essence) most Christians believe Jesus is ONLY the Son (and NOT "God"). And that IS "Blasphemy!".
Instead of saying Jesus WAS, IS and ALWAYS the "Father; the "Son" and the "Holy Spirit" at the same time.
When added up; Jesus is GOD Almighty "Manifested in 3 entities" that equals "1". Which is the "Trinity". Believe it or not.
Thanks again for responding dear Brethren.

And there are MANY more scriptures in the Bible; that says Jesus IS God.
So please read it clearly, dear person.
For I do not have time to keep trying to teach you things; which most get it the first time. No disrespect.

A powerful word indeed. One thing I can't wrap my mind around though is when he said nobody is born a Christian. Aren't the elect born with the assurance of salvation? Haven't they been sealed before the foundation of the world until the day of redemption? Isn't it impossible for them to discard their heavenly hope?

    • @jaredelkins3416
      @jaredelkins3416 2 ปีที่แล้ว

None of the elect is born Christian, this we know because that is what the Bible teaches. However according to Reformed Theology, they are born with the assurance that they will become a true Christian before they die because of the fact they are chosen and called by God. But each person individually still has the responsibility to believe or reject Jesus. Which they most certainly will believe because God will effectually call them and they will receive him (because His call is effectual). It’s the age old Calvinistic/Armenian debate between the relationship between God’s Sovereignty and Man’s Responsibility. Both are true: God is sovereign and His purpose will come to pass, regardless, AND man is still responsible for his or her own choices. Having said that, this is also hard for me to wrap my head around sometimes and I could most certainly be wrong. I guess the simple answer is that the Bible says we must be born again (a subsequent act after our biological birth) so we believe that. It also says that those whom God calls WILL be born again, so we believe that as well. In addition, Reformed Theology affirms that though we are responsible for choosing God, we don’t have the ability to, because of our radically corrupt and fallen nature. So by His grace, God calls us and makes us His children, all on His own, we contribute nothing to our salvation (the TULIP stuff). Again I could be wrong, this is just my sloppy understanding of it. God Bless.

What has been sealed from the foundation of the world was a secondary seed to join Jesus in crushing Satan and undoing the damage done to humans.
Who make it up is a matter for God to decide.
Individuals are not chosen before birth.
Paul writing to these chosen ones says:
Romans 16: 20 For his part, the God who gives peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. May the undeserved kindness of our Lord Jesus be with you.

As God reveals his name and being, I AM, He announces to all that He is Being itself. Why else such a curious "name" of God - I AM. It is, rather than merely His name, His teaching. His nature is BEING itself, or self-aware existence. And we all say I Am, because we all ARE. And so God is telling us that we share his Being as the nature of soul and spirit. We are, in fact, beyond the illusion of carnal mindedness, God's own essential existence (yet to be realized by most, except profound and true mystics).

In Psalm 110:1, David says, “The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool’” (ESV). In Matthew 22:44, Jesus quotes this verse in a discussion with the Pharisees in order to prove that the Messiah is more than David’s son; He is David’s Lord.
The clause the LORD says to my Lord contains two different Hebrew words for “lord” in the original. The first word is Yahweh, the Hebrew covenant name for God. The second is adoni, meaning “lord” or “master.” So, in Psalm 110:1, David writes this: “Yahweh says to my Adoni. . . .” To better understand Jesus’ use of Psalm 110:1, we’ll look at the identity of each “Lord” separately.
The first “Lord” in “the LORD says to my Lord” is the eternal God of the universe, the Great I AM who revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3. This self-existent, omnipotent God speaks in Psalm 110 to someone else who is also David’s “Lord.”
The second “Lord” in “the LORD says to my Lord” is the Messiah, or the Christ. Psalm 110 describes this second “Lord” as follows:
    ● He sits at God’s right hand (verse 1)
    ● He will triumph over all His enemies and rule over them (verses 1-2)
    ● He will lead a glorious procession of troops (verse 3)
    ● He will be “a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek” (verse 4)
    ● He will have divine power to crush kings, judge nations, and slay the wicked (verses 5-6)
    ● He will find refreshment and be exalted (verse 7)
In Matthew 22:44, Jesus unmistakably identifies the second “Lord” of Psalm 110:1 as the Messiah, and the Pharisees all agree that, yes, David was speaking of the Messiah. When David wrote, “The LORD says to my Lord,” he distinctly said that the Messiah (or the Christ) was his lord and master-his Adoni.
A common title for the Messiah in Jesus’ day was “Son of David,” based on the fact that the Messiah would be the descendant of David who would inherit the throne and fulfill the Davidic Covenant (see 2 Samuel 7). Jesus capitalizes on the Jewish use of the title “Son of David” to drive home His point in Matthew 22. “While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, ‘What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?’ ‘The son of David,’ they replied. He said to them, ‘How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him “Lord”? For he says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’” If then David calls him “Lord,” how can he be his son?’” (Matthew 22:41-45).
Jesus’ reasoning is this: “Son of David” is your title for the Messiah, yet David himself calls Him “Lord.” The Messiah, then, must be much more than just a son-a physical descendant-of David. According to Psalm 110:1, this “Son of David” was alive during David’s time and was greater than David. All of this information is contained in the statement that “the LORD says to my Lord.” Jesus is David’s Lord; He is the Christ, the Jewish Messiah, and Psalm 110 is a promise of Jesus’ victory at His second coming.
Another important point that Jesus makes in Matthew 22 is that David wrote the psalm under the guidance of the Holy Spirit; David was “speaking by the Spirit,” Jesus says (verse 43). Clearly, Jesus taught the inspiration of Scripture. When David wrote, “The LORD says to my Lord,” he was recording exactly what God wanted him to write.
divine characteristics of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity.
This means the holy spirit is God, co-equal with God the Father and God the Son and is of the same essence. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct from one another in terms of their personal relationship. But they are co-equally God, meaning they are all the being of God. In other words, they do not exist independently one from the other. So, you cannot remove one of the three persons of God and still have God as revealed in the Bible.
Here are a number of references that point to the Holy Spirit’s divine characteristics:
    He’s called God (Acts 5:3-4).
He’s called the Spirit of God (Gen. 1:2; Judg. 3:10).
    He’s considered God (Acts 28:25-27; 2 Cor. 6:16; Heb. 3:7-9).
    He’s treated as equal to God the Father and Son (Matt. 3:16; 28:19; 1 Cor. 12:4-6; 2 Cor. 13:14; Eph. 2:18; 4:4-6; 1 Pet. 1:2).
    He’s eternal (Heb. 9:14).
    He’s self-existent (Rom. 8:2).
    He’s omnipresent (Psa. 139:7-8).
    He’s omniscient (1 Cor. 2:10-11; John 14:26; 16:13).
    He’s sovereign (Zech. 12:10).
He was involved with creation (Gen. 1:1-2).
He enabled the writing of the Bible (2 Pet. 1:21).
He helps us to recognize the glory of God (2 Cor. 4:4).
He enables us to call upon Jesus as Lord (1 Cor. 12:13).
Make no mistake, the holy spirit is so much more than an it or impersonal force-he’s God.
God-as revealed in the Bible-is one and eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From what we see above, this means each person within the Trinity shares the same divine attributes. In other words, one person within the Trinity is not more God than the other.
    Know what else?
The Holy Spirit is more than a force-He’s a Person.
11 personal characteristics of the Holy Spirit
As the third member of the Trinity, the holy spirit is a person and is also personal.
We see this in a few different ways.
First, in the Old and New Testament books the Holy Spirit is referred to as “he,” and throughout the New Testament, he’s referred to as a person (John 6:63; 14:26; Rom. 8:11, 16, 26; 1 John 5:6). What we’ll see in the references below, the Holy Spirit can be grieved, resisted, and even insulted. An impersonal force cannot do these things. Only a person can.
Second, before ascending to heaven, Jesus said he was going to send the Holy Spirit to be a counselor like him (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit is also capable of teaching (Luke 12:12). Unlike gravity-an impersonal force-that can neither counsel nor teach people, the Holy Spirit can do both.
In these two ways, we can see that the Holy Spirit is WAY more than a force-he’s the third member of the Trinity.
To place a nice bow on this topic, here are multiple references to the characteristics of the holy spirit:
    He’s referred to as a Person (John 6:63; 14:26; Rom. 8:11, 16, 26; 1 John 5:6).
    He speaks (2 Sam. 23:2; Acts 1:16; 8:29; 10:19; 11:12; 13:2; 21:11; 28:25-26; 1 Tim. 4:1; Heb. 3:7-8; Rev. 2:7; 14:13; 22:17).
    He witnesses (John 15:26).
    He searches (1 Cor. 2:11).
He can be grieved (Isa. 63:10; Eph. 4:30).
    He loves (Rom. 15:30).
He has a mind (Rom. 8:27).
He has intelligence (1 Cor. 2:10-11).
    God Knows Our Heart
My Mind/Thoughts/Feelings/Experiencies are Created By God Alone. I Think > I Am the God of My Own Consciousness.
For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. (1 Corinthians 2)
The kingdom of God, Jesus replied, is not something people will be able to see and point to. Then came these striking words: “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:21) With these words, Jesus gave voice to a teaching that is universal and timeless.

What would the one in the Book of Revalation be then, the ninth. When He returns at His second coming to set up His kingdom, He says,I AM the Bright morning star, which means He is the new beginning, which He will be when He returns

@@runner8095 which is true. But when studying any topic in Scripture you have to use all the Scriptures for a complete study and picture of any given subject.I understand that RC was using the 7 AM'S of John but using the terminology ,before Abraham was,I Am That is not in line like the other 7 I Am's of John. The 7 I AM'S of John all began with the phrase I Am,the Bread of life,I AM the truth etc.The phrase before Abraham was I AM does not fit with all the other I AM'S. It goes at the beginning of the description of what Jesus is saying He is and not that He existed before Abraham. The other 7 I AM'S are descriptions of what He is,the before Abraham was I AM is a description of who He was and not what Therefore in the teaching The I Am in Revelation fits more beautifully. God's number for completeness is the number 7 and the 7 I AM'S give us complete picture of what Jesus is and the 8th I Am gives us a picture of what He will be in the kingdom, the Bright and morning star, which by the way the number 8 denotes a new beginning

I probably will not articulate this correctly but I will do the best I can. First and foremost, I understand the significance and biblical emphasis on obedience and in no way would underscore this emphatic absolute. However, it seems to me that the way it is stressed overall, we are put right back under law, having the same effect as the letter which kills (no, I am not antinomian). For example, I here it stressed so much that it just makes me want to rebel all the more as I am continually falling short. It just seems like a continual game of whack-a-mole. As I get older I become all the more passive as the sin nature seems to just grow stronger with age no matter how much I purpose to repent. There is much more I would like to articulate but I will end by just asking: "Can anyone relate?"

I can relate. My rebellious nature is a constant that fights submissiveness. Ironically though, I submit more everyday because I ask and seek it. It’s a journey, a war and endurance in this fight is all I can offer. My peace comes from knowing the grace my Lord has extended to continue the fight.

@@himynameisjohnwumsh7631 Yes I am John. It had been a while since I had expressed my thoughts here and probably should have articulated it differently. But basically what I am expressing is the constant battle with the flesh. It just gets very, very tiresome. It's kind of like a hampster on a wheel going round and round.
