1:20 I burst out in laughter because I could not believe how any human could play those octaves at that speed! Oh Hamelin, he just makes a mockery of us all. Go on then, play me some more octaves you beast!
I am a guitar player who would have loved to learned how to play the piano. As I listen and watch the music, I am amazed not only that someone could play this but that someone else actually composed it!
If you'd like hear an impressive rendering of a piano piece on the guitar, here's Prokofiev's 7th piano sonata: www.amazon.com/Piano-Sonata-No-7-Guitar-Transcription/dp/B00004TBGN
@4:48 very nice! I think it is very authentic to play this additional "scale", back then it was not uncommon to add something to the music (spontaneously). It is also like a personal signature of the performer which makes this performance so different from the others that don't have this special element.
Beautiful. The slight changes,(extra basses & final flourish) are welcome; i could even wish he had completely chonge the ending, which is one of Liszt's disappointments, heavy and utility, as if he had to get to the loo in a hurry and just plonked down some E-fart chords. I always imagined a final interlocking octave complete keyboard flourish and MAH would be perfect to compose it!
Oh, compared to the other parts of this song octaves aren't that difficult. Don't get me wrong they're insane, but practice is all one needs. Good luck btw with getting this song down :)
Strange everyone goes on about la campannella when you mention most difficult piece etc.. Yet every other paganini etude I've listened to is more difficult...
I'm sure he would! But even so, MAH absorbs influences and then extends the originals. Here he's relatively faithful. If he wanted to go lots further he'd compose a totally new étude on the original Pag! I'm still waiting for an improved coda;can't understand why three great virtuosi/arrangers,(Horo, Wild & MAH) let Liszt's ghastly, heavy final plonking chords remain. Wild's coda flourish for Mefisto1 is so good i now can't tolerate the original!
yeah liszt does this all the time where he writes an already insane version for everyone else to play then writes an even harder version that he would play just to remind everyone that he is better than them
Definitely. Go listen to the S.140 version of this etude (an earlier, much more difficult version) and you’ll find stuff like that all throughout the sheet music.
That's not the point, imho, not so much effort to sound better than Cziffra. The point is: does he sound better than Horowitz? the answer, obviously is NO. That's the point in my opinion. Great hands, a great virtuoso, but the true challenge is being a virtuoso of the sonority. Someone in sight among the youngsters? Bertrand Chamayou among them I suppose. (But these performances of the Paganini etudes are really great. The best I heard from him ever.)
Not really! There are different basses to Horo's and variations on added flourishes.I consider the Horowitz among the greatest of all pianistic performances, even with one slight and another enormous cut,(most of the recap. for the 78side limit)MAH here gives one of the best modern performances altho, for Paganini devilry, nothing matches VH.
3 great things in 1 - what a nice surprise!
1) Paganini no2
2) Sheet music of it
3) Hamelin playing it

Blind octaves are not *that* difficult once you get the hang of them. Try playing the 2x double-stop ossia...
RIP violinists. For pianists the speed is tough but the octaves are easy if you have giant hand that can span a 10th.
I say 10th because I can play a 10th.
They are when you’re 13.
Azeara Azymoto oh shut up

Me too, I’m about to start learning piano!
yeet• 69 years ago • [edited] You should! I’ve started to play the piano at the age of 4, now I’m 11, and I simply love it!

Wonderful! Thanks Marc for your amazing virtuosity. I am in awe and the sound is just beautiful and so musical.
He actually adopts Horowitz's addition.
madlovba3 *Thanks for the info.*
My favorite Paganini etude

Bravo from Canada Liszt for the Transcription and Hamelin for Playing it beautifully.
Such a pleasure to hear all these MAH performances!

So clean!
Amazing interpretation. I like Liszt's style, no matter how virtuous and brutal his music is, it is still melodic, beautiful and fun sounding !

Hamelín de mis favoritas. ...🇲🇽. 😃. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🎶🎶💯
I feel a bit envious for Hamelin's hands and technique...
A bit?!
My piano teacher wants me to play this im scared of the octaves lol
Oh, compared to the other parts of this song octaves aren't that difficult. Don't get me wrong they're insane, but practice is all one needs. Good luck btw with getting this song down :)
@@ailsasun9308 The octave section on violin is even more insane
@@niccolopaganini4268 Is it octaves as well?
The s141 or the s140? The latter is inhuman.
Its as insane on violine as piano damm. its ocataves too.. :( crazy

There are thousands more difficult than la campanella
I wouldn’t say 1000’s but there are more than a few.
@@azearaazymoto461 some pieces don't even have recordings cause theyre roo difficult
Alexander Noethiger Not thousands, but some/few.
@@justaharmlesspotato69 He most likely exaggerated to emphasize how overrated La Campanella is.
I know it's a late reply, but Hamelin's addition to this piece are actually taken from Horowitz's 1930 recording, which is here on youtube.
Also I like the extra base which he holds to 2.47
Excelentísima interpretación de un gran pianista.
I'm certain that if you asked MAH himself, he'd say that he was influenced by Horowitz :)
This just made me forget I could read sheet music

his coda of the coda, the very end, so smart!

X-ray him to see if he is a bionic man. Ultra-virtuosic.
at 4:47, notes are different than it's been showed. is there an ossia or hamelin changed it with his own will?
Hamelin improvised that part. Just like Liszt would do
@@niccolopaganini4268 or Horowitz version?
Niccolo Paganini No, Horowitz version.
thank you
Because he's awesome :)
good!
I like the coda but I think he could have just finished with a chord after his improvised glissando - he is so good at them btw!
Hamelín solo de Liszt. Los de los otros autores llo inventaron.
Is it even humanly possible to play the ossia at 1:20
yeah liszt does this all the time where he writes an already insane version for everyone else to play then writes an even harder version that he would play just to remind everyone that he is better than them

No, just an alternate/another option to perform there
Thought this was hungarian rhapsody 2 on the pickup.
I can't think of anyone who is so 'in charge' of a piano.
