.....That music ...that voice ....the sheer artistry and interpretation .....breathtaking ! A soul that is not stirred by this is not worth having .......
The greatest ice dance couple in history dance one of their most soulful performances, wrapped up in bows like beautiful gifts for us and dance to the greatest song Jerry Herman ever wrote. It has to be tear inducing.
I had never heard this before they skated to it; I fell in love with this song then, I have been happily married more than 40 years but this song always chokes me up.
@@IZS1962 Yes; look out for the film "Victor Victoria", in which he co-stars (and sings); he's a competent actor. "Roses" has a lot in common with "I remember it well", IMO. And Jayne and Chris do it so nicely, too.
What a treat to find this very decent copy of the video, thank you so much for posting it! IMHO this is one of their greatest routines and certainly one of the most emotional performances they ever gave.
@@davecathcart117 It certainly is! I always associate the routine with the 1984 Olympics and World Championships, they performed the routine as part of the closing gala at both, and that felt like such a special time, they had the whole country spellbound.
Mabel is so much in love with Mack, and just wants him to love her back, but he is "so preoccupied with" himself, that he pays her no attention until it's too late. Jayne and Chris act out the lyrics of the song so well that, no matter how many times I see this, I'm always in tears by the end.😢
Hi, yes I’m wry tired & feeling reminiscent. Watched this with my “Mum” in 1984. My Dad passed in 1983 on the 9 th of June. So a lot of memories here, but, it makes me think of You & Alice. This is the First Lady you have ever wanted your family to meet! This song makes me think of You & “now” Alice. So send her Roses. Sorry, feeling nostalgic xx💕
Этот номер гала представления завершал Игры в Сараево 19.02.1984 года,ставших венцом карьеры Торвилл и Дина. Качество видео прекрасно. Финал танца просто вызывает восторг у зрителя.
I remember the whole country being on a high after their gold medal win with "Boléro" a few days earlier, then they came out with this masterpiece. Wonderful memories!
@@biancatellington85 I disagree. The words are nasty; the rhythm of the words is awkward; the music is boringly repetitive, the overall flavor is depressing and repugnant. I'll grant you the background score is pretty, but that's it. If you want to hear something beautiful, go listen to "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," by Ralph Vaughan Williams, or "Clair de Lune" by Claude Debussy, or even parts of the music score for Halo: Reach, the video. But IMO, this song is trash.
Exquisite! The best ice dancers ever! Did you ever notice that Chris did many of the lifts with just one arm? Amazing.

I tear up every time I watch this!! Perfection!!
They were and will always be the greatest pair!
Im sure robert preston would be very proud 👏👏👏👏👏❤
I'm here only for Robert Preston and the most moving song in the world.
I teared up at the end of this marvelous skate... They were so elegant and so in sync with the music. They will be missed.

The Amazing Robert Preston! Heartbreaking and beautiful.
I am in tears!

I have always said that the encore on the final night was better than Bolero and the feelings they put into the skating was fantastic
This is my favourite of all of their routines. So simple, so romantic, so expressive.
Unbelievable never grow tired of this

Bolero great but Skating to you don't bring roses is superb

What joy! I haven't seen this in decades. So beautiful
Agreed...from the days when ice dance really could be ice dance...
Same here😢😊
Beautiful!
My fav routine as well. Their facial expressions and their dance tell a beautiful love story.
I know they were magnificent with Bolero but their interpretation of the music to the skating was Unbelievable What a pair !!!!!
How are you doing today my name is Bryan cooker
This was the Gala Exhibition routine, so beautiful.
They performed "Barnum" as their main exhibition number at the gala, then returned with this as their encore, hence the Barnum costumes.
Love them especially M&M and Barnum too. There will never be anyone like them.
And the cape dance, matador and cape. Brilliant.
I can't even stand up in I've skates let alone move on the ice
How do they do what they do?
It's like magic

Wonderful to watch them such joy and appreciation

Венцом любительской карьеры. Как профессионалы они до сих пор катаются. Они лучшие навсегда!!!)))
This was more beautiful than teir winning performance
Thanks for this BEAUTIFUL new clip. What a difference it makes!
By the way I think the singer was The Musicman Robert preston
It is Robert Preston from the original cast recording of the play "Mack & Mabel"
Torvill & Dean, with Robert Goulet. What a beautiful recipe!
Robert Preston singing as Mack Sennett
It sounds like Robert Preston not Robert Goulet
Def Robert Preston
That is robert preston singing
Wow !!! Fantastic
Brilliant better than their winning movement in Balero
I remember the whole country being on a high after their gold medal win with "Boléro" a few days earlier, then they came out with this masterpiece. Wonderful memories!
@@denisej4813 I agree whole heartedly
Mi and Mo the best
Stupid song, IMO, but lovely choreography.
Stupid song? Jerry Herman wrote that for Mack and Mabel. That song is heartbreakingly beautiful. That entire score is fabulous.
