It's so beautiful. Rolf is crying because it was his grandmothers favorite song, he didn't hear it since she past away. And Henk realy puts his love and emotion in the song.
You are totally right about the music industry! Did you know that when they came up with the format of 'beste zangers' the reason behind it all was to go back to the reason why singers want to sing: because of their love for music and wanting to share that with others. But as the producers of this show started to approache Dutch singers they were baffled that all the artist were really exited about the concept but their managers were a nightmare to work with. All kinds of restrictions and demands,interferences with the set,lights,make up etc. So the producers wanted to cancel everything until....one of team members said: what if we take this show abroad out of sight from the managers.No managers,no P.A.'s,no drama. Everyone the same make up artist. The singers ALL agread.( and proberbly had some arguments with their
managers)and that is were the Magic started.. people bonding over their shared passion for music/performing
The artist were all relaxed, no one was interfering with anything. Nowadays all the managers are exited about this show. But they are still not aloud to be present! Back to the basic of why people make music works..12 seasons in and hopefully many more to come!!

Henk never dissapoints.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, Henk's voice is magical, his tone is so soothing, relaxing and uplifting at the same time, not to mention the calm collected demeanor he has that draws you right in.
There are many great singers, but not that many of them have that... lets call it, "That Henk factor" (Floor has that too)
I'm very happy for Henk that he got his chance on Beste Zangers, not because he needed to get famous again or anything, no.. we knew who Henk Poort was before the show, so for that, it wasnt needed for that, no.. it gave him a whole new audience, with millions and millions of views world wide (counting the react channels as views as well), and this introduced him and his music to a whole new generation of people, people who might never thought of listening to a Opera/Musical singer before.
But a lot of people are now hooked on Henk and his voice :) (rightfully so!)

I freaking hated musicals untill an ex-gf dragged me to The Three Musketeers with Henk Poort after that i surprised my ex with musical tickets aslong it had Henk Poort in it. I was/am hooked. . .I listen daily to Henk-Sound of Silence.

In the past you had professional singers travelling from city to city, singing songs, telling stories and bringing news. Imagine having that life. . . .
Beste Zangers,... it's the gift that keeps on giving :) What a wonderful performance. Yes integrity is the right word to describe Henk's performances. He has such a wonderful tone, it's addicting.
The song was originally sang by Nino Bravo and I encourage you to listen to the original as well, even if you don't react to it on your channel. I grew up with this song, just like Rolf.
Nino Bravo was one a wonderful Spanish singer, he became massively famous worldwide in a short period of time and sadly died at 28 y.o. in a car accident, in 1973. He's a classic in our language and I'm sure you won't regret getting to know some of his music.
So far, for me, Henk's voice has been the only one after Nino's to do justice to that song.

I think you're right about the perverse influence of money making on the true art of music. Of course there is nothing wrong about earning money even with music or any other form of art as long as the art is the leading motif.
I think Henk has earned a decent living in his years, but it is clear that he has always been and still is passionate about singing and music making. He recently gave an interview in which he uttered his curiosity about different ways to express himself through singing and music. I think the his performances have shown that he is still willing to explore different styles and ways to perform. A true artist I'm sure!

It's fun to hear Henk Poort sing in the style of the Jordaan school of folk singing. The area in Amsterdam he was born in - the Jordaan - is known for it's singing traditions, often in the style Henk is singing in here albeit in the local dialect (yes, Amsterdam does have it's own dialect)

........but altho this song is so different than my record/cd/digital/playlist collectie,, i keep coming back to this song. Im a big dude (overweight) bald shaven head, a lumberjack beard, covered in tattoos, according to some, the biker look. But when i put on this song i become a little emotional boy,;same when Floor sings Mama......so as result i watch these alone , can't destroy my hard-man image (((::

I wasn't a big fan of the show -- I tried their initial season for a bit but the whole competition aspect it had back then didn't really do it for me -- only to find out that they changed the format completely, which was a really fun re-discovery. Anyway, thanks for yet another fun reaction!
ps. the vowel pronunciation in zangers is somewhat similar to ah sound in father.
i love this song, and compliment for henk , this was the only song this season where no one kept dry. i am just curious about your opinion about something. when i look at reactionvideo's of other persons i notice that they all do phantom of henk and floor (and possibly the other songs of floor in the show). when lucky they maybe watch the duet of henk and emma and maybe henk with sound of silence. you are 1 of the few that also give attention to the others , almost look likes the other reactors only know floorand forget the others. now my question to you is who you think is the hero of the show this season. its true that floor sings great but then i think they do the others short.

@Valerie Because you such a Beste Zangers fan, maybe you'd like to know that on December 21st, Beste Zangers is going to air a Christmas special on tv, so keep an eye out for that. And as usual it'll be uploaded not long after. Amongst the singers are O'G3NE, a Dutch harmonies girl group (they're sisters) that have been on another season of De Beste Zangers, and they are simply amazing singers. Don't miss it! :-)

He did conservatory, normally it is a 6 year study but he did it in 5 years because he already had all kinds of roles in opera etc, so he was offered to graduate a year earlier.

@@HOTGGR Although the sound quality of the video is not as good as the quality we are used to nowadays, nothing beats the original. The original singer/songwriter knows what emotions he puts into the lyrics and how he should deliver it to the listeners. Watching the video of Nino Bravo gave me a beautiful melancholic feeling. I also agree with Jeronymus V that Henk Poort honoured the original song by an excellent performance. Valerie chose this song, I suppose, because she enjoyed hearing Henk ('this guy') singing. I enjoy this version as well. And although it's not the original I hope you can enjoy it too.
