My brother is also quadreplegic, one of his wrists is permantly bent down so he uses one hand to do most things, hes also severely brain damaged, he can talk but cant really grasp complex problem solving. He used to be able to at least stand up with assistance when getting him in and out of bed but now his house just uses a lift. I dont think they even let him use a standing frame anymore.

  • @magalita336

I have spastic paraplegia. My first doctor in 2010 said it was mild. Theres nothing mild about this. I have vision problems, misaligned teeth, spasticity in my legs, paraplegia, overactive bladder and arthritis from the waist down. If that doctor thinks thats mild, i cant imagine what he considers severe.

Step 1: Assess Your Current Bone Health
Schedule a Bone Density Test: Consult with your healthcare provider to schedule a bone density test, also known as a DEXA scan. This test measures bone mineral density and helps assess your risk of osteoporosis.
Review Results with a Healthcare Professional: Discuss the results of your bone density test with your healthcare provider. They can provide insights into your bone health and recommend appropriate steps based on your risk factors.
      Step 2: Adopt a Bone-Healthy Diet
Increase Calcium Intake: Incorporate calcium-rich foods into your diet such as dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese), leafy green vegetables (kale, broccoli), tofu, almonds, and fortified foods.
Ensure Sufficient Vitamin D: Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. Include sources of vitamin D in your diet such as fatty fish (salmon, tuna), egg yolks, fortified foods, and spend time in sunlight, which triggers vitamin D synthesis in the skin.
Consume Adequate Protein: Protein is essential for bone health. Include sources of lean protein in your diet such as poultry, fish, beans, lentils, and nuts.
Limit Sodium and Caffeine: High sodium and caffeine intake can contribute to calcium loss from bones. Limit consumption of processed foods, salty snacks, and caffeinated beverages.
Step 3: Engage in Weight-Bearing Exercise
Incorporate Strength Training: Perform weight-bearing exercises such as lifting weights, using resistance bands, or doing bodyweight exercises like squats and lunges. Aim for at least two days of strength training per week.
Include High-Impact Activities: Participate in activities that subject your bones to impact, such as running, jumping rope, or playing tennis. These activities help stimulate bone growth and improve bone density.
Practice Balance and Stability Exercises: Incorporate balance and stability exercises like yoga, tai chi, or balance training drills. These exercises help prevent falls and reduce the risk of fractures.
Step 4: Quit Smoking and Limit Alcohol Consumption
Quit Smoking: Smoking is associated with decreased bone density and increased fracture risk. Seek support from healthcare professionals or smoking cessation programs to quit smoking.
Limit Alcohol Intake: Excessive alcohol consumption can weaken bones and increase the risk of fractures. Limit alcohol intake to moderate levels, which is defined as up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men.
Step 5: Ensure Proper Medical Management
Follow Prescribed Medications: If your healthcare provider prescribes medications for bone health, such as bisphosphonates or hormone therapy, take them as directed.
Regular Follow-Ups: Schedule regular follow-up appointments with your healthcare provider to monitor your bone health and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Address Underlying Medical Conditions: Manage underlying medical conditions that may affect bone health, such as hormonal imbalances or digestive disorders, in consultation with healthcare professionals.
Step 6: Prioritize Safety and Fall Prevention
Create a Safe Environment: Make modifications to your home to reduce fall hazards, such as installing grab bars in bathrooms, using non-slip mats, and ensuring adequate lighting.
Wear Proper Footwear: Choose supportive, non-slip footwear to reduce the risk of falls and fractures.
Use Assistive Devices if Necessary: If you have mobility issues, consider using assistive devices such as canes or walkers to improve stability and prevent falls.
Step 7: Stay Consistent and Monitor Progress
Maintain Healthy Habits: Consistently follow a bone-healthy diet, engage in regular exercise, and avoid habits that can weaken bones.
Monitor Progress: Track your progress by scheduling regular bone density tests and discussing any concerns with your healthcare provider.
Stay Informed: Stay updated on new developments in bone health research and discuss any relevant information with your healthcare provider.

Some seem to never learn the concept of not judging a book by its cover. I have an otherwise normal outer appearance despite having all 3 forms of cerebral palsy and multiple, rare, life-threatening genetic vascular, blood, digestive, immune, endocrine, and neurological disorders such as adhd. "But you don't look sick" angers me and may have been what has been hampering being able to get on disability. I now need a pancreas transplant due to hypoglycemia unawareness with frequent seizures and am especially concerned on how to return to my former job as a registered nurse // emt.
