    I actually think South Park tackles disability in a respectful way. The children act the same towards Jimmy and Timmy like they do with everyone else, what is true equality.

    • @Official_RetroMania

      @@cthuluke3472 Yeah, I agree. South Park works better if you have the whole context of the episode, while for example Family Guy can be definitely enjoyed if short cut clips. Both shows are great in they own right, I just wanted to explain and give an example why South Park works better if you watch the whole episode.

      @@morgothable Yeah they even beat Eric in all games lol. It shows that you aren't weaker, lesser of a being if you have disabilities in fact people with disabilities fight harder in they life and can achieve things people without one can't.

    • @nappyk96
      @nappyk96 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@cthuluke3472 I partially agree and partially disagree. As someone who's dealt with a disability since birth it's the kids represent the majority of people who don't really care and will just treat you like anyone else.
      There are a certain portion of people who will get weird about it and there few and far between but I would of liked if they had a character who acted like that just completely different from how they treat everyone else to make it a bit more realistic.

    • @Official_RetroMania
      @Official_RetroMania ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@nappyk96 They absolutely did that in the episode Conjoined Fetus Lady, where the parents acted differently towards the nurse while the kids acted like kids towards her. She wanted to be seen as a normal person like you and me with no advantages or disadvantages.
      But yeah I get your point.

    The thing with South Park is that if you only take a small portion of the episode, yes is very offensive BUT if you watch the whole episode you realize it's satire and offensive humor with a great message at the end makes the show not offensive at all. Matt and Trey make fun of everyone and in doing so I think they achieved true equality, South Park it's the best satire in our century.

    Hi, I actually just finished a paper on disability representation in South Park, and I think a lot of people need to understand that South Park makes fun of the reactions to disability, not disability itself! The joke I’m Up The Down Steroid is Carman’s ableism and how extreme it is. As a disabled person myself, I personally find the take on disabled comedy hilarious and refreshing.

    • @undeadprincess5726
      @undeadprincess5726 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Especially with context. He goes through all the trouble to look disabled and ends up last in every even because he didn't prepare. Of course, because of him, Jimmy realized that cheating isn't right, whether you win or not. It's always funny to see cartman get his comeuppance.
      Edit: also, autistic.

      I do also think it's important to point out that the two disabled boys that are frequently shown in the show are not treated differently because they're disabled( right down to mr. Garrison and other teachers being a bit obtuse when it comes to Timmy's disability) they treat Jimmy and Timmy like they're part of the group no they're not in the main for but whenever there is storylines such as when the boys got ninja weapons Jimmy participated

      I have a friend with a sister that has Downs and he finds Nathan particularly funny because he's alittle devious and knows people underestimate him due to his condition. And so does his sister. The characters are very humanized and have interesting personalities. Jimmy seems to have abit of aspergers too. In that he's kind of oblivious to social cues while being generally very intelligent.

    Honestly South Park is one of the best shows that has disabled characters, Jimmy and Timmy are some of my favorite, and they don’t just treat them as messiahs, brave warriors, or pity, their treated like regular characters and are even written to be smarter than most despite their disabilities. Also their just as crude and prone for stupidity like everyone else. Also shame Pip is gone he was such a nice character, maybe not the funniest but way better and memorable than Jason or that other kid that looked dirty, I even forgot his name.

    I wish more shows would tackle disability like South Park does. They have disabled characters but their disability is never their sole personality trait. And with the exception of Cartman, the boys never bring it up and are always okay with Jimmy and Timmy playing with them. You also have Nathan, someone who on the surface seems like he doesn’t have everything there but uses that as a complete advantage to himself and is secretly the smartest person in the room. And then you have the amazing Special Olympics episode where Trey and Matt call out Cartman for being an ableist prick, hold Jimmy accountable for his decision to dope, and at the same time showing respect to the student athletes and showing them kicking Cartman’s ass in the games. The best part about that montage is the point that Cartman was so ignorant that he thought that he didn’t have to actually train within the sports themselves. As a disabled person, I fucking love all of this.
    If every disabled character was written like the characters on South Park, we would make so much progress in terms of disability being represented onscreen. Trey and Matt have always done right by them.

    “Like, subscribe, and follow me on twitch!”
