      Well some Guinea pigs are better off on there own. If they have lived by themselves for a long time it is very hard to introduce another piggy and could result in them fighting

      +Ashley Steph If you have a rescue or shelter near by, they can be SO helpful for matching up personalities. I have found for my lone males that spayed females are the way to go. Males with males can be very territorial but was a totally amazing experience letting them meet a spayed female, the bonds worked wonderful! Males can be with males, sometimes just take a lot of trial with different personalities :)
      Fuzzy is very cute and glad to see he has a lovely sized cage and happy home.

      Blindmag8 I highly doubt that you attempted to socialize you're guinea pig with more than 1 other guinea pig. We can't understand what their saying. For all we know, them begging us for a companion, we would take as them not asking for one. They get depressed and lonely. Although they may "seem" happy, often times they are very lonely.

    I'm a volunteer at the Los Angeles Guinea pig rescue. A great alternative to very expensive care fresh paper bedding is kiln dried pine shavings. Contrary to what some people think kiln dried pine shavings are fine for their fragile respiratory systems. The bedding is very soft and you can mix it in with paper bedding like care fresh and it will make your piggies smell good. Aspen wood bedding is also acceptable however it is not very soft and very expensive. Cedar chips should never be used because they have oils That are not good for the Guinea pig to breathe in. I also appreciate the fact that you have your piggies in a wonderful C &C cage. Thank you for this video.

    You're on the right track, but I have a few tips: 1: Maybe consider getting a piggie friend for him, also a male. 2: add another grid onto the length of the cage so it is a 2 by 4, not a 2 by 3. 3: Switch him to Oxbow adult guinea pig food. 4: once you get him a friend, give them each 1/8 cup food a day, until then, give him 1/8 cup a day. You are doing OK though!

    If I were you I would make or purchase fleece liners or use fleece plain and just fold or cut it to size, they have so many cool patterns and cute designs! I use mainstays fleece from Walmart, it becomes an addiction haha! it does take a bit more maintnence because I would recommend sweeping up nd titying every other day, but you just after a week shake it of and wash it and its as good as new! it looks s pretty and is super cozy on their little feet hehe! I like to have a few to switch it up they are only 3 dollars a fleece! just sweep up the poos every other day, he will love you! great video by the way :)

      +Khloe Denny I rescued piggies and kept multiple males together for years with no fights ever. Each time a new one came to me, I had to work them into one of my herds and was always able to do it fairly quickly, often in only a day or two. You just have to monitor the introductions in a neutral space (a bathtub with a towel and some fresh greens/hay put down works well), just as you do with rabbits, but I never had any pigs fight after the introduction process. I did have a couple of boys who would get annoyed when the others would stand too close to them and give a "karate kick" to push them away, but never a single fight.
      Guinea pigs live in herds in the wild - they're not like lions, where a single male oversees a harem of females - so male piggies do really well with other males and work out their own hierarchy fairly easily, often just by using body language and vocalizations. But they do need to see new pigs as part of the herd first. That's why introductions are important, but in my experience it goes really quickly. I wish introducing rabbits to each other was so easy! But with patience, most rabbits are able to get along, too. It just sometimes takes a while.

    • @Ty-su7qg
      @Ty-su7qg 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Khloe Denny actually that's rare, males together rarely fight, I found that out, and that's why we are getting mine a pal, because he can't have a female, and he can't get fixed, so males apparently don't fight, my friend has 3 males, and they have never fought

    • @leeechboy
      @leeechboy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Khloe Denny
      as a person with two *MALE* guinea pigs, i can confirm that they don’t “foght” to the point of needing to go to the vet. yes, they butt heads and will get annoyed but they don’t attack each other.
      also, you need to have at least two guinea pigs.

    • @ScottysAnimals
      @ScottysAnimals 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm a volunteer at the Los Angeles Guinea pig rescue and I specialize in bonding boys. Guinea pigs should never live alone. It is very difficult to bond Guinea pigs when you do not have many to choose from because the chances of boys bonding are about 10 to 25%. But at the rescue we have many many Guinea pigs and we are able to successfully bond boys. I personally have 3 pairs of bonded boys. It is important for Guinea pigs to have a cage mate and you should never give up on them. If you really want to learn how to take care of Guinea pigs follow the Los Angeles Guinea pig rescue TH-cam channel and we have Instagram and Facebook also. And I personally will be creating a bunch of Guinea pig care videos that I can point potential adopters to.

    This helped a lot! I’ve been cleaning my piggies cage with a glove and a bag so far... :T but this helped a lot! Also, you should really get a friend for your guinea pig, just make sure they’re both spayed/nuetered, I know some people say it’s okay to have one guinea pig but it’s really not. Guinea pigs live in herds in the wild and are very social, imagine never talking to another human being again! That’s how they feel without a partner. So please do consider getting another guinea pig, I’m sure your cute little piggie would be much happier.

      A lot of people clean their cage once a week, I do too. I definitely recommend it.

    That's horrible that the Guinea pig is by itself. It can cause depression. Guinea pigs usually live in groups of 2-17 my advice is get another one. But introduce them slowly. And have an extra cage in case fighting accures. It most likely will to see who the more dominate piggy is.

    • @nellyvlogs2767
      @nellyvlogs2767 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And when you get another pig for him. You need to have 2 of everything. So there is a limitation on fighting. And you might wanna make the cage a little bigger. And I recommend fleece instead of bedding. But that's just what some people prefer. Other than that it seems like you take great care of him. ;)

      Some pigs like to be alone. My piggy is alone because at the shelter she very seriously injured a Guinea, and hurt a few others. I'm not going to put more of them at risk just because the Internet says to.

    Instead of newspaper and bedding use fleece and newspaper. Not only does it look nicer, but it will also cut your cage cleaning time in half! With fleece you can scoop the poo and other debris into the center of the fleece then you pick up the corners and dump it into the trash. also after you shake the fleece outside you can wash it and it be as good as new!

    Nice video and very tame piggie, but as I saw the other comments, you do need 2 pigs, they are herd animals. Also, you need to spray a vinegar and water solution or animal safe spray cleaner to wipe the base of the cage before putting down fresh bedding. Very pretty bedding, but I know it gets costly, it is very good for their feet though, but I am sure you must have heard about fleece. Needs a lot of spot cleaning, but it works well if you purchase cage liners with absorbent material in between. This is an old video Inow but in case you see this comment, I hope your piggie is still happy and healthy and has a friend.

    Why is he so well behaved and my guinea pig isn’t? I have been so patient and kind and moved around it slowly to not scare but he is always scared of me :(

      Sadly, Guinea pigs are naturally like that. I have my Guinea for years and he still runs. Sometimes. You can't be to "loud." If you open his/her cage "forcefully" they'll run. Carefully open the door and slowly grab him/her.
      Sometimes, letting them out and beside/ around you, will help them know whose the owner. Feed him/her snacks with your hands or fingers. Touch a snack and place it in front of them, doing these will get your Guinea to smell your scent and know that you're the caregiver.
      Doing it just once, won't help just like that. So, do it almost daily.

      You have to build the cage like the other person said. Here is the website you can find how to; www.guineapigcages.com
      But I actually think searching up how to make a c and c cage(which is what the cage is called) on wikihow is more helpful.
