It’s crazy to hear how it was actually Lance’s role originally, it makes a lot of sense, but David really made Warlin Door his own and he created something beautiful out of it. Can’t wait to see what this incredible man does next
Yaa he was supposed to. There was an image leaked that showed him called as Mr Door. Its unfortunate but I'm glad that David did everything he could to make it his own
He freaking nailed lance’s style on the final scene. And you can tell he had a great time playing the character honestly I can’t wait to see what remedy will do with his character next.
I think indirectly it will be connected since its not Remedy's IP. It's still owned by microsoft. Similar to what Remedy did with Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2.
Hearing that he's not only a gamer but actively loves Remedy who are such a niche studio, what a match made in heaven. Can't wait to see David in their future projects.
The best compliment I can give an actor is that I didn't once feel that he was "acting". He belongs in that universe just like Sam Lake does. I'm convinced that if I ever end up in some otherworldly space, David Harewood will be there with his eerie positivity and impeccable good taste in clothes.
My immersion was broken at some points because he's doing an accent lol. When he says 'awkward' at one point it comes out as 'orkward' with the American accent, instead of 'ahkward' which is a common occurrence when Brits are putting on American accents. Love him though he did a great job
So he is living the real multiverse experience, he met Max Payne as Sam Lake, he met Alan Wake as Ilkka Villi, maybe in the future he will meet Jesse Faden directly but as Courtney in our universe. This is so crazy 🤣 AMAZING INTERVIEW!!!
The fact that he doesn't sing, but the whole musical part worked so well proves again and again that when you get people excited about producing something, this energy translate really well into final product.
i got all defensive reading this like man what do they mean "old", he's probably around my age... but just to be sure i looked it up... how is he 58?! would not have guessed! not that i think that's particularly old either, but i hope to age half as gracefully
After finishing it, I can say I certainly did! His memory of the scene from Max Payne 1 resonates hard, the baby cries will haunt me forever lol. Wonderful interview with a wonderful man
David Harewood is an instant classic of the Remedy games. I can’t wait to see what’s in store with Mr. Door and Harewood’s performance. Him not doing these sorts of things often but does 1 for Alan Wake 2/ Remedy means he’s the real deal and apart of this fantastic cast!
This was a fabtastic interview, man! David was brilliant as Mr.Door. I truly loved the switch from jovial talk show host to menancing, mystery man. I replay that clip from the Masks chapter, often. The dark and threatening vibes that ooze off of Mr.Door in that scene, give me goosebumps. So excited to see him again in the Night Springs DLC, and hopefully future Remedy projects! I'm almost certain we will be seeing much more of Mr.Door in the future, and I am all for it!
Yaa I'm all for it as well. And like you, I also watch that scene from time to time. Its just so good and I remember the lines "You keep opening doors, peeking in". Idk why but its my fav.
Absolutely the best part of Alan Wake 2 was Harewood's performance. I would have never thought someone could have matched the incredible work of Lance Reddick, but Harewood nailed it. Great interview you got a new Sub.
It's amazing to see that David was already a fan of Remedy's games and Sam's writing. I can even see the admiration and love in his voice talking about all that. And having CRUSHED his performance as Door, i hope to see more of him in the Night Springs and Lake House expansions
I just wanted to say that you are an amazing interviewer.. You ask really good questions and really go into the interviews with knowledge and skills that rival most Hollywood interviewers.. Keep up the fantastic work, Abhi.. I love your content! :)
WOW you are too kind. I'm not sure if I'm rivaling anyone but I'm glad that you think that way. I always try my best to have the best conversations possible and I've learned from the best.
Amazing interview! Davis Harewood's performance as Door perfect. Its crazy to think his casting was last minute and that he shot all of his scenes in just a few days. Its a testament to him and everyone else involved that the end result was as brilliant as it was. Thank you for speaking to him and sharing this with us!
Thank you so very much for watching. It is amazing to think that he was able to finish in 4 days with Ilkka and the team. As he said, he believes that the team was surprised by how quick everything happened.
Great to hear from him! Thanks for giving us the opportunity. Crazy to hear he never sang before, I think I read he was in Theater just thought he had the experience from that but he should definitely delve more into his voice for future work! I was putting off the fan theories that Lance Reddick was originally Door but now his comments pretty much confirm that, what boggles my mind is that Lance died in March 2023 which means they would've filmed the live action scene 6 months before release, that's crazy tight! Now with James McCaffrey gone, I can't imagine how everyone at Remedy is feeling.
Yaa its a tough time for Remedy as well as for all of us. We lost 2 very important people. I don't know if that's tight schedule because I remember Ilkka said that they filmed the musical part in 2 days and David here says that he filmed everything within a week. So they didn't take much time
Remedy has such a magic touch with their characters. I was a teen when I played OG Max Payne back in the day. Fast forward to AW2, I had watched many seasons of Homeland TV series and that's the extend I had met Harewood before. I was so very surprised by his appearance in the game, but then quickly not surprised at all by the quality of the writing and performance. I struggle to find other games with such a huge impact from their characters' performances in the overall experience, but AW2 is surely amongst the best. Great interview :)
Thank you so much for watching this. I've been a fan of David before the game as well and its so cool to see him not only be a part of this game in such a fashion but also him being such a fan of video games
I truly loved David Harewood's performance in AW2 and I'm even more happy to hear that he's such a fan of Remedy too! Can't wait to see what projects he gets involved with in the future. Also, great interview. Love how you let him talk and make the conversation flow so naturally.
A fantastic interview. Learned quite a bit and am glad to see that David and Remedy were a match made in heaven even before Alan Wake 2. He brought so much to the game as one of its stalwart characters, enigmatic, charming and menacing.
Great interview! I'm so glad how much space you gave to David. I came to this as an Alan Wake fanboy, but I was absolutely captivated by the things David talked about. He seems such an intelligent, kind and well versed person. Italian neorealism, count me in! And he fucking SMASHED it as Warlin Door! What a performance!
So this was Harewood's Henry Cavill moment? No wonder he did such a good job. He is a phenomenal actor as well, don't get me wrong, but the passion for the project is the secret ingredient.
I love listening to your interviews with people, they're so interesting to watch! David is so sweet too and it's awesome to hear how excited he was when he realised it was Remedy. Hehe! He did amazing work in Alan Wake 2! ❤
Excellent!! Love to see how excited he is about the character and spit all the beans about what is coming. Yes. Saga's father and Hatch. Hope we will see on Control 2. I think he was avoiding talking about Control/Jesse and just followed up what you said.
@@BehindTheVoicePod yeah. He said it. But, I got the impression that he knew something about Jesse and Door and of course Door and Breaker. I am glad he talks about shifters and him replacing Lance ...so without saying it he confirms that Door is Hatch
18:30 When Door revealed himself to Wake, Harewood was doing a homage to Lance Reddick by imitating his speech pattern, connecting Door to Lance's Martin Hatch from "Quantum Break", which I found very fitting.
I don't think he was doing an homage to Lance. That's how he delivers the serious aspect of any role he's in. Someone who's mysterious and trying to protect someone
Very nice talk, congrats on managing to get him onboard! Loved him since Supergirl and I'm glad to see he's such a humble and dedicated person. Questions and answers were interesting, you kept a good balance between them and the chat was very enjoyable. Well done and greetings from Italy, wish I could've met him when he was here... D:
Thank you so much for watching! I've been a fan of him since Supergirl too and its so amazing to see him in this game. I'm so glad you liked this episode.
At first I was coming to see David as an actor, but the moment I found out that he has played basically all Remedy games, he has become just another one of us (fans) and someone I envy/hate for that luck X_D. Seriously now, I'm always so glad as a Max Payne and Remedy (and Sam Lake) fan when another fan gets to know a little more first hand.
12:10 how amazing it is to find out the the part for Mr Door was originally made for the late Lance Reddick and David was to replace him. What an honor
Great interview, thank you, David is such a lovely man, basically just a fan of games like us, living the dream and sharing all that positive energy. I really look forward to see him again in the Remedy Universe.
I am so excited to see this, I was just looking up to see if he interviewed about this just last week and was disappointed to learn he hadn't really done so yet, thank you for this.
Great interview! It was interesting to hear David Harewood's perspective on the controlled chaos of the Remedy universe. Although, I can't agree that "We Sing" beats the Ashtray Maze. Each sequence serves a different purpose. Ashtray Maze made you feel like you were powerful in a world of the unknown. Whatever was thrown at you, it would be defeated. "We Sing" seems to be reminding Alan of his journey (also the player) while instilling that he should not give up; he can beat the darkness. To say one is better than the other is an unnecessary comment.
I don't think its an unnecessary comment. Its just what he believes in, doesn't make it unnecessary. There will be people who will like We Sing more than the Maze. What David is saying isn't fact but just personal opinion.
@GaminMadness That is a fair point. It seems to me he worded his comment too strongly for an opinion, but no one is perfect. I hold the Ashtray Maze sequence in high regard. It's my favorite throughout any game I've played. The feeling of kicking ass while the Old Gods of Asgard provided the soundtrack was amazing. I just liked the strong focus on combat in Control. We Sing is definitely a close second, though.
You could feel his passion through the character, absolutely gushing to hear he played all the games and is a big fan. David had big shoes to fill but made it totally his own. Can't wait for Alan Wake 3? Addition: More Warlin Door in the DLC? hyped!

Nice podcast. I've seen these actors in a few things but never heard them speak casually before. I still think of David Harewood as David Estes from Homeland because thats the first thing I saw him in lol
@@BehindTheVoicePod Aawww, you're welcome! I read the comments understandably praising the cast and the game, but watching these interviews wouldn't be half as enjoyable if it weren't for how you conduct them. And someone had to tell you! Great job!
Found him through Supergirl. The show was that great but it had its moments. He was definitely one of the shining beacons of that show. Along with the lead actress.
After playing Alan Wake 2 - David Harewood is the single greatest candidate around to step in for the late great Lance Reddick and take over the role of Sylens in Horizon 3. Sylens is simply to important a character to kill off offscreen and Lance's legacy could best be served for continuing the amazing character he brought to life's story arc to a fitting conclusion.
I will say that David did an incredible job to do the role of Warlin Door. I'm not sure if he will be playing Sylens but that's a decision for Guerilla games in the end.
max payne is the game of my childhood, I remember playing in on my old ass samsung laptop with a celeron cpu and integrated graphics, so many fucking memories
one thing that struck out to me during the interview is despite that the game got announced years before they reached out to Mr. Harewood for the role but didn’t tell him anything besides who he’s going to replace. I wish there was more transparency for such jobs and NDAs do exist
I don't think that he was reached out years ago. And he knows who he was going to replace, he just didn't to name him because he thinks that inappropriate to his family. The shooting for live action stuff must have happened after Lance's passing and that's why he got contacted.
@@BehindTheVoicePodI’m not talking about the cast or the role but rather the fact they told him who he’s going to replace but not the project he’s working on! sorry if it was confusing

I think the first game I saw Harewood in was CoD Infinite Warfare, funnily enough. Say what you will about CoD but that's a pretty solid campaign with a good set of characters, and he's probably the best one.
No one can replace Lance Reddick, but David Harewood definitely made Hatch / Door his own. Superb work. Hopefully, Keith David can do something similar.

Yaa same here. I didn't play Quantum Break but I know how good Lance was.
Thank you for yet another super interesting interview 👏👏👏
Thank you so much for watching!!
Nice podcast. I've seen these actors in a few things but never heard them speak casually before. I still think of David Harewood as David Estes from Homeland because thats the first thing I saw him in lol
Thank you so much for watching.
what a lovely gentleman he is
He is amazing!
Great talk and good questions 👏
Thank you so very much for watching!
Fantastic actor, unbelievable range, i still remember him from blood diamond and from cod infinite warfare.
Ohh yaa in Blood Diamond he was INSANE!
Dude came in with the Vanquish shout...he's a real one
He's the real gamer
I just finished Alan wake 2 last night because I won’t support digital only titles anyway every single voice actor killed it!!! I love Alan wake 2
I'm glad you got to play it
I’m expecting Door to have his own story at some point
I do expect the same!
He is awesome actor and very nice person.
Abhi is a great host. Polite, enthusiastic, and knows what to ask. He does his research.
Thank you so very much for saying this. I truly appreciate it
@@BehindTheVoicePod Aawww, you're welcome! I read the comments understandably praising the cast and the game, but watching these interviews wouldn't be half as enjoyable if it weren't for how you conduct them. And someone had to tell you! Great job!
@@BigBadWolframio wow that means so much to me. You don't know how much your comment has helped me. Thank you
Next you gotta interview Ahti, complete the collection.
hahaha would love to see what's possible
Found him through Supergirl. The show was that great but it had its moments. He was definitely one of the shining beacons of that show. Along with the lead actress.
Absoltuely! Him and Melissa did a fantastic job in that show and I would say everyone else also did the same
David was so, so good. And it's awesome that he was a fan, too.
But ah man, I would've loved to have seen Lance do the dance 😂
Ya it would've been incredible for sure
very experienced actor and humble man
Absolutely!
As a Canadian who went to school for radio, I'm absolutely seeing that film
I do hope you enjoy it.
Eu estava ansiosa por esta entrevista! Sou fã do misterioso Mr Door, e também quando ele fez o Jon Jons, em Supergirl. 🎉❤
I've been a fan of his since Supergirl so its insane that I got to share some time with him.
Waiting in spiral, perkele
Finding this channel 4 videos ago i really find it interesting how this channel's topic is sorta niche
Well I appreciate it
max payne is the game of my childhood, I remember playing in on my old ass samsung laptop with a celeron cpu and integrated graphics, so many fucking memories
Same for me. I played it on no graphics card and just my PC at the time which was like an office computer
*11:37** Was he talking about Lance Reddick? They are look alike and both amazing actors.*
Yep, lance was mentioned in the credits as well as Jason Schreier confirming this
Yes he was talking about Lance.
i surely hope that we will see David more in remedyverse, doesn't matter if Door or another character.
Me too!!
1.8k upvotes, zero downvotes
That's a pretty good interview
Well there are 3 downvotes but who cares
@GaminMadness Ah must be Mulligan, Thornton and Nightingale.
Man I’d love to see you talk to Christina Cole about playing Alice, she’s the best performance in the game if you ask me lol
Yeah she's very underrated and the key to making Alan's story work
Absolutely! I have reached out and fingers crossed, maybe she would be interested.
one thing that struck out to me during the interview is despite that the game got announced years before they reached out to Mr.
@@soulx511 oh understood. My bad.
That's just how video games with unfortunately. It isn't disclosed until they start working on it or get their first call with the director of the game
Now you need to bring the man himself sam lake
It would be awesome
Absolutely! Would love to have him if he's interested
@@BehindTheVoicePod You know, if you asked him to come for an interview about his experience as an actor in the game, that might pique his interest and I'm pretty sure it would make for a fun interview as well.
Yaa absolutely , its just hard to reach out to him.
I think the first game I saw Harewood in was CoD Infinite Warfare, funnily enough. Say what you will about CoD but that's a pretty solid campaign with a good set of characters, and he's probably the best one.
I never played Infinite Warfare but I have seen some stuiff here and there
What a good guy. Capped off with a shout out to Vanquish?! Come on, take a bow sir 👏👏👏😂
Oh yaa Vanquish was such an awesome game and I love that he mentioned that
No one can replace Lance Reddick, but David Harewood definitely made Hatch / Door his own. Superb work.
Hopefully, Keith David can do something similar.
Yaa I'm so glad that David was able to make a unique Door
Guy puts on a really convincing English accent for an American. Must be for that film in Toronto he's doing.
What are you talking about? Dude was born in Birmingham. Or was this a joke about Warlin Door.
@@thefourthnorseman
Yeah, it's a joke, squire.
Such a great casting decision, he is mr door
Absolutely!
Did he say dlc? Warlin Door was such a great character.
Yes he did say DLC
Yeah theres 2 DLCs coming

I love that both Saga and her "father" are played by British people putting on an American accent.
hahaha that's true
