I recommend doing a re-read of 'If We Were Villains' if you're up to it! You'll find so many hints throughout which tell you the outcome of the book, and you only realise that it isnt just a throw away line, or a casual conversation topic, once you know the entire story. I get excited every time i do a re-read because of it (though that might be because its my favourite book 😅)
ma'am you are responsible for kickstarting my love for reading again (and the pain!!) :,)))) also omfg I'm starting to respond more to your content and I hope that isn't annoying!!
the more that i think about it the more that I like it actually hahaha will definitely need to reread it! i really liked how the author didn't just drop the Shakespeare on us, but explained the words in a really understandable way :)
This is How You Lose the Time War is definitely my favorite book I’ve read this year. It’s been several months and I still think about it all the time. My other absolute favorite of the year was A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor, the final book in Hank Green’s duology. For some reason that book made me cry a lot lol. I also just finished Into the Drowning Deep, which was so engaging and tense that I just flew through it haha
so glad to see you’re back, I hope you’re doing okay 🌸 my reading block is finally clearly so I’m loving all these new book suggestions, you do a lovely job at describing the books without spoiling it. Gets me so exciting to read fantasy again
We have very different taste in books but I love the way you talk about your reads. Your voice is so calming! Just gotta watch like 50 more wrap ups before I pick up a YA fantasy book haha. Heard that Seoul is going into lockdown again, sending you lots of strength
hahaha i'll reel you in one day!! and we're currently in a half-lockdown (can't sit inside anywhere, etc) but we'll get through it!! at least we all have books to escape into. Hope you're doing okay too!!!
always love your honest opinion on the books!! it definitely helps me out with my reading list, because i’ve loved everything you’ve recommended (also i love if we are villains). keep being you!!
I completely agree with what you said about This is How You Lose The Time War, it's definitely the best romance I've read this year and one of the best books I've ever come across. I would recommend the audiobook though, if you want to go through it again, it's excellent!
It's wonderful to see you back! I love the way you tell both the story of the books and your experience with it. I always look forward to your perspective! I'm currently reading a weird group of books/bouncing back between them. The Plotters - Un-su Kim, Better Than Before - Gretchen Rubin, A Cook's Tour - Anthony Bourdain, and The Elephant Vanishes - Haruki Murakami. A little bit of everything!
hi from the future: just came here to check this video out cause i just read “this is how you lose the time war” myself and it’s my favourite book of the year so far. so pleased to see you loved it too 🥹
Cari I can not tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you put subtitles on your videos!!! Also as someone who loves memoirs and non fiction I'd love to see your faves from these genres? x
I hear you on Uprooted - I definitely felt a distance from the characters and kind of read it more as a folk tale or something instead of a book (if that makes sense). And This is How You Lose the Time War is EXCELLENT and probably one of my favorites of the year, so I’m so glad you liked it! 😊
I’m so happy to see you. Please stay safe and I hope you’re happy as well every single day. I’m treating these videos like podcasts btw! I love listening to you talking as a go on with my daily chores. Thank you🌸🌺
Yuhuuu our fav girl is back 😍 thanks for the recommendations ❤ I'm actually reading "This is how you lose the time war" i was super happy when you mentioned it and so far I'm LOVING it can't wait to finish it and reread it 🤩
What's your philosophy on "giving books a second chance?" (anyone can answer this, I am honestly curious!) Tere have been some books that I have had to start and stop a few times, Like all of the Erik Larson books (Devil in the White City took me 3 tries to start but I ended up loving it once it got going) but I have never really felt a great need to go back to books that I disliked or was disappointed by after reading it once. Is it something you do often, or how to you re-approach a book like that?
I definitely give most books a second chance because a lot of times its the writing style that stops me from getting into it and, sort of like taste buds, my taste for reading style changes with time!! If I really don't like the story though, then its harder for me to reread. But many of my fav books are ones that I couldn't get into on the first read so I'm always open^^ I put a lot of time between my rereads tho - sometimes years!!
This is an interesting question! I think for me, I would think about what the reason is that I didn't like a book. Like maybe I thought it was boring and now I have more patience, or I thought a character was annoying but now I've matured and realized that might not be the case. Something along those lines :)
That's such a good question! There's been quite a few times where I've tried reading a book and it just doesn't click with me, but when I read it a couple months or years later, it clicks and I end up enjoying it so much! In my opinion, as we grow as individuals and read more books, a book that we might not get the first time round, might just click the next time. So I do give some books a second chance :)
I usually give books a second chance if they're very well known classics (they probably deserve the hype!) or if the premise sounds really interesting and up my alley. We are constantly changing as humans and obviously as readers, so I find that sometimes I'm not in the right place to read a certain book and a couple months or years later that book becomes a favourite of mine (that happened to me with The Secret History)
It depends on many factors. But I usually try to give books a second chance. If it's the writing style then I'll probably not go back, because I've tried it before and it didn't work. 😅 If I can't 'tolerate' the characters, if you know what I mean, I wouldn't go back either. I started a series once and the main character was unbeatable. I just couldn't vibe with her at all. My friend kept telling me she gets better by book 3!! I CAN NOT READ 3 BOOKS FOR ME TO GET TO LIKE A CHARACTER. 😂😂😂 But it's rare for me to love a book I didn't like on the first try. I think I know what I like and I can kind of sense whether we'll be a good fit or not
cari, hope you’re doing well and taking the time you need to breathe! had to pause when you mentioned you left the ya bubble and that’s been me in the last few months and you’re right, it does feel good! reading writing that fits my newer perspective is so refreshing, loved the video!! 💕💕
there have been many instances where i come across book recommendations, but then i have to double check because of "age ratings" (i'm in high school) that can be pretty annoying sometimes since the book seems really amazing! as always though, i love your videos and i can't wait to try some of these books!!
cari, i'm so thankful for your recommendations. i finally got myself laughing while reading, truly immersed in the narrative (with the elephant vanishes chronicles). it's been probably more than 5 years since this doesn't happen. and i read it all in english which is amazing since my mother language is portuguese. anyways i'm so grateful! the way you talk about your readings is really inspiring and it helped a lot. love your channel, hope you are well and a big big hug for you 💗 byeee
If you didn't like Uprooted, her Temeraire series is often more liked by people who feel the same. She also has like a dark school setting book coming out this fall
I liked Temeraire a lot but it seemed needlessly long to me... it really didn‘t need 9 books in my opinion, i kinda lost interest after the 5th i think but pushed through somehow 😅
I was confused by the Magpie Murders as well, but adored the book. Mr. Horowitz tells weird and interesting stories. On the flip side, I have no desire to read more than that book, as the idea of it only works once.
I saw that there was another book out for the series, but I didn’t wanna pick it up. On the flipside, The Word is Murder was an amazing book and I have wanted to read the next one of that. If you do like detective style books, more in the line of noir and Philip Marlowe, you should check out the Last Smile In Sunder City it was, personally, an amazing book.
watched this as soon as i woke up and you put me in such a good reading mood for the day! definitely adding this is how you lose the time war to my tbr ✨
Thank you for forever keeping my TBR list filled to the brim and also helping me to prioritize what's on that list LOL. Time War has been on my list and I keep putting it off so I think it's time because everything you said totally sold me on starting it soon!!
I imagined Pet as an angel type digimon 😂 The most recent book I loved was The House in the Cerulean Sea. I'm looking forward to reading Time War and Sorcery of Thorns!💕
I totally get that feeling when things are about to go horribly wrong somewhere in the book and you’re just waiting for it to happen. I felt that when I read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.
I remember, in I think 2020, when I first read "This is how you lose the time war" (also in one sitting) I then, right after finishing it, called a friend of mine just so I could go on a 1-hour rant about how much I loved this book and how emotional made me hahah and even though English is not my first language, it just made so much sense in my head. I felt like it was way easier to read than some popular YA books. It's the only book ever rated 6 out of 5 stars. My absolute fav and also the only book I can and want to reread without getting bored. HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it
i'm the one who recommended Pet! i have to agree that it's not my favorite, but i love Akwaeke Emezi's writing style. glad you decided to give it a shot 😊
Cari!!!!!! Omg! Yassss queen! Love you! I went from reading 0 books a year to 18 to date for 2020!!! Was really looking forward to your fall recommendations! Just finished Station 11 😨 it kept me flipping pages late at night! Glad you’re back! 😍
The secret history is one of my favourites. It took me almost a week to finish because it has a slow start but I was so intrigued I couldn't stop reading!!! Hope you would give it another chance
17:00 it has the same effect on me too :D I actually went into a two months long reading slump just because I didn't like the romantic subplots at all. Picked it back up just to give it one last try when I was completely blown away by how much I loved James and Oliver, and then I got to the ending and it shook me to my core. Everytime I think about this book it gets way better and I think about it alot lol
Ooo that last one-- I love the dark academia atmosphere but hate uppity-ness in general-- hmmm... decisions decisions 🤔 Also, have you seen the cover reveal for Leigh Bardugo's new book? It is beautifullll (as always hahaha it's Leigh)
yeah the more that i think about it, the better the book got haha but i still need a while before i try the secret history again! and omg yes!! can't wait to continue that story - i love nikolai!!
Yeeeeah more books to the TBR list ✨ ps: im thinking about re reading a discovery of witches because fall vibes and im never forgeting I discovered that book thanks to you ✌️ hope you are ok!
I did not like uprooted either!!!! it was a one or two star read for me hahah. I really enjoyed Pet and how it talked about different issues for a young audience. this is how you lose the time war is such a lovely story im so glad it's one of your favorites now!
I haven't read Uprooted but I loove Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. It's fantasy/alternative history set during the Napoleonic Wars, with dragons. Temeraire, the titular dragon, is my favorite dragon ever.
Hi Cari ! I found you through your other channel and watch your vlogs quite often :) happy to see that you’ve joined booktube. I would love to see where you get your books in Korea!
I got so worried when the first book you talked about was Uprooted because I really didn’t understand the hype behind it when I read, but was super relieved that we seemed to have very similar opinions of it! I’ve completely avoided Naomi Novik because of it so I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on Spinning Silver
If you ever feel like trying Anthony’s books again, I recommend “The Word is Murder”. He puts himself into the book, Sherlock/Watson dynamic, and cosy murder mystery. 😆 (I have Magpie Murder on my shelf so we’ll see how it goes!)
I really enjoyed Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, and have plans to read Uprooted so I'll be curious to compare how I feel about them! Also, thanks to the way you described it, I have now added This is How You Lose the Time War to my TBR.
After having read Pachinko in only a few days, I really need a fun, cozy, and happy read. Why did I do this to myself - send help! I always love your book videos, Cari!
Naomi Novik is stellar, love what she's putting out there but the age difference wigged me out. I read Uprooted super fast because the storytelling was gorgeous but there were definitely some slightly problematic tropes. Love your earrings!!!
Naomi Novik has a new book coming out soon that you might like better! It's like a really dark, slightly cheeky, Harry Potter-esque story. I'm a bit biased because I work for the publishing company, but it's still such a fun story that I recommend :)
YAS!!! New book content :) I‘m still soooo slow with reading atm. But the book I recently read and loved was ‚Little Eyes‘ by Samanta Schweblin. And added Sorcery of Thorns and The Wicked Deep to my tbr pile, also have If we were villains lying around here for aaaages....i need more time!
loved the video! glad you're back!! i hope you're doing okay - i always say that when i comment on your videos, but i think more than ever it's worth telling you this :)
I loved Uprooted! But I know it’s pretty divisive. With Sorcery of Thorns, I thought it was cute but I thought the romance was underdeveloped and she should have ended up with (spoilers!!) Silas or whatever his name was. They had a much stronger sense of bonding
Some recommendations: - The Starless Sea by Erin Morgensten - Aurora rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff - The Ten Thousand doors of January by Alix E Harrow - Strange the dreamer by Laini Taylor - Sabriel series by Garth Nix - The Cat and the City by Nick Bradley - A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge - Deeplight by Frances Hardinge - The Forest of Wool & Steel by Natsu Miyashita
I love the way you describe books, and that you don't suger-coat your reactions, lol! My only problem is that your recommendations are too good and now I just keep wanting to read more and more books!! Time to add at least three more titles to my already dozens-long TBR list. |ʘ‿ʘ)╯Who needs sleep anyway, when there are books to be read?
i can get that you didn't like the secret history, but to me the cool thing about that book is exploring how that group of kids managed to corrupt everything around them through their little cult
I also didn't enjoy Uprooted!! THANK YOU. I'm not alone lol. I enjoyed Spinning Silver a little better, but it's by no means one of my favorite books. You miiiiiiiiiiiight like Deathless by Cathrynne M. Valente. I adore it, have reread it a few times, but also get that it's strange and not everyone's cup of tea. Russian folklore/fairy tales mixed with real-world early 20th century Russian turmoil and very poetic storytelling. I'm not a Russophile, but loved it. I think it's a great wintertime read!
Thank you for this lovely book video. I am reading the "A Court of Throns and Roses" series now, because you said it was amusing (in a previous video). I have only just started the second book, but I find they contain many lengthy and verbose descriptions of a slightly boring and irrelevant nature. But I love the female heroine. I love how "true love" is portrayed. I love how a 'change of heart' is permitted, and even desirable from the pov of the reader. Sometimes things move too slowly. But most expectations are paid off. Can't wait to finish these and dive into more of your recommendations :)
the books keep getting longer and longer, just a warning ;) but you're right, i thought that was pretty unique for a book to be able to make you fall in love and root for so many different characters!
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak is WAY better than Uprooted. It has a slow start but it’s worth it~ It’s even more fairytale like than Uprooted with better characters and a more realized plot. 🤓👍🏻
Spinning Silver is much better than Uprooted , but the multiple view points doesn't help with the attachment to characters. It starts very slow but picks up.
Naomi Novik is one of those authors where it seems like all the pieces should fit and work well to make a great book (story, writing style etc.) but somehow it just doesn’t do it for me. I felt like Spinning Silver was even worse 🤷♀️ I prefer Katherine Arden who I feel is going for something similar and actually pulls it off
I vastly preferred Spinning Silver to Uprooted - hopefully you will enjoy it better too. I felt like Uprooted tried to do too many things without doing any one of them well enough to really make it really work!
Oh, also - I originally read Uprooted because I was desperate for a Slavic fantasy hit after finishing the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden. If you haven't read them I strongly, strongly recommend.
I just read This is How You Lose the Time War a couple of days ago. I absolutely loved it! I thought the letters were so beautifully written. Do you have a favourite letter from the book?
So many interesting books! I've recently read The Wicked Deep and I plan to read Winterwood during the Winter because it has Winter in the title haha. I didn't like the plot twist actually, I figured out it too early :(
I recommend doing a re-read of 'If We Were Villains' if you're up to it! You'll find so many hints throughout which tell you the outcome of the book, and you only realise that it isnt just a throw away line, or a casual conversation topic, once you know the entire story. I get excited every time i do a re-read because of it (though that might be because its my favourite book 😅)
ma'am you are responsible for kickstarting my love for reading again (and the pain!!) :,)))) also omfg I'm starting to respond more to your content and I hope that isn't annoying!!
omg never annoying!!! and yessss nothing compares to the agony of loving a good book hahaha
I absolutely loved We Were Villains. So so good, esp if you enjoy Shakespeare too.
the more that i think about it the more that I like it actually hahaha will definitely need to reread it! i really liked how the author didn't just drop the Shakespeare on us, but explained the words in a really understandable way :)
Right?! I want more to the story!! And ohhh I’ll look the others up now!
you are finally baaaaack, missed you
thanks for understanding!!
Whishing you all the best! Thanks for sharing 👍
so glad to see you’re back, I hope you’re doing okay 🌸 my reading block is finally clearly so I’m loving all these new book suggestions, you do a lovely job at describing the books without spoiling it. Gets me so exciting to read fantasy again
yessss hope your future is filled with lots of good reads hahaha and thank you!
I love how you describe the books you read, you go beyond the characters and talk about the writing style. Thank you for uploading this video
thank you for watching!!
Hope you're doing okay too!!!
so happy that you loved "this is how you lose the time war" 🥺 i think it is definitely a love or hate book due to the writing style!
yeah its really unique but i am in loooooove!
I‘m currently waiting for the necklace you did with Ana Louisa to arrive and I‘m so excited!! Also love your book videos :)
oh my goodness thank you so much!!!
update: it arrived today!!! i love it so much
always love your honest opinion on the books!! it definitely helps me out with my reading list, because i’ve loved everything you’ve recommended (also i love if we are villains). keep being you!!
yayy!! hope you like a few of these :) and thank you!!
I completely agree with what you said about This is How You Lose The Time War, it's definitely the best romance I've read this year and one of the best books I've ever come across. I would recommend the audiobook though, if you want to go through it again, it's excellent!
Omg i can only imagine how great some of the letters would sound aloud! Need to give it a try.
It's wonderful to see you back! I love the way you tell both the story of the books and your experience with it. I always look forward to your perspective! I'm currently reading a weird group of books/bouncing back between them. hi from the future: just came here to check this video out cause i just read “this is how you lose the time war” myself and it’s my favourite book of the year so far. so pleased to see you loved it too 🥹
Cari I can not tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you put subtitles on your videos!!! Also as someone who loves memoirs and non fiction I'd love to see your faves from these genres? x
no problem!! and ohhh i'll have to put a video together about those topics!!
@@caricanread you're a star! Thank you so much x
I hear you on Uprooted - I definitely felt a distance from the characters and kind of read it more as a folk tale or something instead of a book (if that makes sense). And This is How You Lose the Time War is EXCELLENT and probably one of my favorites of the year, so I’m so glad you liked it! 😊
Thank you so much , because of you I’m veeeery interest in buying books that take me to a whole different world instead of just buying romance 🥰
you've got to dive into fantasy!!!
I’m so happy to see you. Please stay safe and I hope you’re happy as well every single day. I’m treating these videos like podcasts btw! I love listening to you talking as a go on with my daily chores. Thank you🌸🌺
Yuhuuu our fav girl is back 😍 thanks for the recommendations ❤ I'm actually reading "This is how you lose the time war" i was super happy when you mentioned it and so far I'm LOVING it can't wait to finish it and reread it 🤩
thank you so much!! and omg isn't is a dream!? i am thinking of buying the physical copy so i can read it again and again!
yesss the city we became i absolutely adored it!!!!! also i love how eloquent your summaries are 🥰
I know you left the YA fantasy but I highly recommend Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas. One of my fave books of 2020, for sure.
you're trying to pull me back in!!! noooo! hahah but really, i'll look it up asap ;)
Agree!!!

Hi Cari! I was really happy to see that you posted! I love your book videos 💕 I just finished the Sorcery of Thorns and ahhhh it was so gooooddd!!
thank you so much and omg yes!!! such a cute story! i want a magic library so badly haahha
there have been many instances where i come across book recommendations, but then i have to double check because of "age ratings" (i'm in high school) that can be pretty annoying sometimes since the book seems really amazing!
as always though, i love your videos and i can't wait to try some of these books!!

Yeah it was partially my fault for not reading the very first chapter but the interruption threw me! I wonder how he'll continue the series :)
Totally reading this is how you lose the time war after I finish the book I’m currently reading, I’m intrigued 🤔
let me know what you think!! its definitely not your typical book, it almost felt like an epic poem :)
Im ready for this !! I’ve been too stuck in fantasy too 😂
watched this as soon as i woke up and you put me in such a good reading mood for the day! definitely adding this is how you lose the time war to my tbr ✨
😍🥰
Yay! Can’t wait to cozy up and read some of these! Love your recommendations ✨
heheh hope you enjoy!
Thank you for forever keeping my TBR list filled to the brim and also helping me to prioritize what's on that list LOL. Time War has been on my list and I keep putting it off so I think it's time because everything you said totally sold me on starting it soon!!
Yessssss 💙❤️
Cari another amazing video as usual 🥰

omg all of her books hahahahha
Hello! We missed you 💞 thank you for the video!
thank you so much!!! i'll be back more regularly soon i promise :)
I remember, in I think 2020, when I first read "This is how you lose the time war" (also in one sitting) I then, right after finishing it, called a friend of mine just so I could go on a 1-hour rant about how much I loved this book and how emotional made me hahah

HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it
The Wicked Deep sounds like one I would read. I'll have to check it out. Thanks Cari! 💚
hehe enjoy!!
i'm the one who recommended Pet! i have to agree that it's not my favorite, but i love Akwaeke Emezi's writing style. glad you decided to give it a shot 😊
excited for their other work!
I also loved their style!💕
Nooo don't leave the YA fantasy bubble! I need more, mooooore :D *frantically note down your recommendations*
I'm happy to see that you're back and I hope you're doing well! I'm definitely going check out the last book it seems really interesting. 💕
hope you're doing well too 💕💕💕
Cari!!!!!! Omg! Yassss queen! Love you! I went from reading 0 books a year to 18 to date for 2020!!! Was really looking forward to your fall recommendations! Just finished Station 11 😨 it kept me flipping pages late at night! Glad you’re back! 😍
OMG YESSSSS!! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!
I love the way you review on the books!
The secret history is one of my favourites. It took me almost a week to finish because it has a slow start but I was so intrigued I couldn't stop reading!!! Hope you would give it another chance
I havent given up on it quite yet hhehe
Thanks to you I have started reading as well! Thank you ! And love your videos ! :)
that makes me so happy, thank you!!
Ooo that last one-- I love the dark academia atmosphere but hate uppity-ness in general-- hmmm... decisions decisions 🤔
Also, have you seen the cover reveal for Leigh Bardugo's new book? It is beautifullll (as always hahaha it's Leigh)
yeah the more that i think about it, the better the book got haha but i still need a while before i try the secret history again!
and omg yes!! can't wait to continue that story - i love nikolai!!
Yayyyyyy Cari content 💕💕 This makes me so happy! Also your earrings are so pretty I love them
Hehe thank you!!
omo cari you're finally back. I'm glad to see you again.
Thanks so much for watching!!!
Just finished Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, it is amazing. I think you will find it interesting but you might cry a little jaja. All the best from Spain
I read that last year and it was my favorite book of 2019!! such an amazing story!!
Yeeeeah more books to the TBR list ✨ ps: im thinking about re reading a discovery of witches because fall vibes and im never forgeting I discovered that book thanks to you ✌️ hope you are ok!
ohhh i enjoyed the first one but never finished the series!! and thank you, hope you're okay too!
thank you for all the recommendations!!! i love your book taste
of course!! thanks for watching!
I did not like uprooted either!!!! it was a one or two star read for me hahah. I really enjoyed Pet and how it talked about different issues for a young audience. this is how you lose the time war is such a lovely story im so glad it's one of your favorites now!
Yessss i really want to buy a physical copy of time war so i can reread it whenever i want 😍
hey cari! thanks for the upload. gonna watch this before bed
hope you dont have weird dreams after hahaha I read an odd mix of books LOL
Started reading again thanks to you >.< thank you for being an inspiration 🥺
I haven't read Uprooted but I loove Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. It's fantasy/alternative history set during the Napoleonic Wars, with dragons. Temeraire, the titular dragon, is my favorite dragon ever.
i am intrigued!!!
@@caricanread Yay :D
I know I'm late but welcome back Cari!
💕💕💕
Hi Cari ! I found you through your other channel and watch your vlogs quite often :) happy to see that you’ve joined booktube. I would love to see where you get your books in Korea!
thank you so much!! and i usually rent my books from the library through the apps called Libby and Overdrive!
Amazing as always! I was missing you already. I hope you’re doing great. 💜
💕 hope you’re doing great too!
I got so worried when the first book you talked about was Uprooted because I really didn’t understand the hype behind it when I read, but was super relieved that we seemed to have very similar opinions of it! I’ve completely avoided Naomi Novik because of it so I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on Spinning Silver
hehe i will report back i promise!!
oooh you talking about sorcery of thorns may actually push me to pick it up
I love the paintings behind you.
Thank you! My husband painted them 💕
My Uprooted copy is staring at me as I watch this video 😅
I'm still excited to read it and hopefully love it 🤞
hahaha i love when you can feel your books pressuring you hahahah
Thanks for keep posting your videos ♥️♥️
thanks for watching!!
I’m soo happy you’re back I missed you 🧡, And I start reading (Never let me go) one of your recommendation 😻
I hope you enjoy it 😍😍😍
I highly recommend Akwaeke's other works, they're such an incredible writer!! I think The Death of Vivek Oji is my favorite though
That’s the one that is next on my list 😍😍😍
You are glowing today, you are just gorgeous!!
Thanks so much!
Now I'm going to have to try a few of these 😍
I'm just starting This is How You Lose the Time War for this months NOTB bookclub! Hopefully I enjoy it.
Omg i hope you love the time war 😍😍😍
After having read Pachinko in only a few days, I really need a fun, cozy, and happy read. Why did I do this to myself - send help! I always love your book videos, Cari!
oh no hahah i havent really read many happy reads lately actually!! and thank you :)
Naomi Novik is stellar, love what she's putting out there but the age difference wigged me out. I read Uprooted super fast because the storytelling was gorgeous but there were definitely some slightly problematic tropes. Love your earrings!!!
You're not alone! I didn't really like Uprooted either.
phew! i had only heard great things!!
Naomi Novik has a new book coming out soon that you might like better! It's like a really dark, slightly cheeky, Harry Potter-esque story. I'm a bit biased because I work for the publishing company, but it's still such a fun story that I recommend :)
10:14 I really need you to make a video recommendating those kind of mystery books, please!!!
maybe for spooky season^^~
YAS!!! New book content :) I‘m still soooo slow with reading atm. But the book I recently read and loved was ‚Little Eyes‘ by Samanta Schweblin. And added Sorcery of Thorns and The Wicked Deep to my tbr pile, also have If we were villains lying around here for aaaages....i need more time!
sorry to add to the every growing book pile hehe
loved the video! glad you're back!! i hope you're doing okay - i always say that when i comment on your videos, but i think more than ever it's worth telling you this :)
Thank you so much 🙏 hope you’re alright too!
I loved Uprooted! But I know it’s pretty divisive. With Sorcery of Thorns, I thought it was cute but I thought the romance was underdeveloped and she should have ended up with (spoilers!!) Silas or whatever his name was. They had a much stronger sense of bonding
i agree it felt a little rushed but i liked the silas/nathaniel bromance more than anything LOL!
Some recommendations:
- The Starless Sea by Erin Morgensten
- Aurora rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
- The Ten Thousand doors of January by Alix E Harrow
- Strange the dreamer by Laini Taylor
- Sabriel series by Garth Nix
- The Cat and the City by Nick Bradley
- A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge
- Deeplight by Frances Hardinge
- The Forest of Wool & Steel by Natsu Miyashita
I love the way you describe books, and that you don't suger-coat your reactions, lol! My only problem is that your recommendations are too good and now I just keep wanting to read more and more books!! Time to add at least three more titles to my already dozens-long TBR list. |ʘ‿ʘ)╯Who needs sleep anyway, when there are books to be read?
the best kind of problem to have!!
i can get that you didn't like the secret history, but to me the cool thing about that book is exploring how that group of kids managed to corrupt everything around them through their little cult
i promise to give it another try!!
I really haven't read much like that so i will definitely give it a grand old try!!!
im waiting for it at the library and i cant wait!!!!!!
I also tried to read Uprooted and I didn't like it, I don't feel so bad about it now 😆 I really want to read This is how you loose the time war 💖💖
I felt like Spinning Silver was even worse 🤷♀️ I prefer Katherine Arden who I feel is going for something similar and actually pulls it off
I’ll have to look her up 😍
If you haven’t already, the Winternight trilogy is so good! The Bear and the Nightingale is the first of the series
But I couldn't bear to read The Bear and the Nightingale because of all the child abuse😭
It is pretty dark in places 😅
so glad im not the only one who doesn't like Uprooted
😂
hi cari! love your content
thank you ahhhh!
If you haven't read them I strongly, strongly recommend.
i agree!! excited to give silver a try though :)
I just read This is How You Lose the Time War a couple of days ago. I absolutely loved it! I thought the letters were so beautifully written.
Do you have a favourite letter from the book?
Omg i didnt even think to pick a favorite 😱 looks like i need to reread asap!
So many interesting books! I've recently read The Wicked Deep and I plan to read Winterwood during the Winter because it has Winter in the title haha. I didn't like the plot twist actually, I figured out it too early :(
