Thank you so much! I finally understand now. I was feeling so defeated and spent hours trying to cast on and watching lots of videos. Your explanation makes complete sense to me! Hallelujah!
I've been so confused about long-tail casting on for so long and this video was WONDERFULLY succinct and clear! Thank you so much for all the amazing tutorials!
Absolute best, I tried three times on other sites then found your long tail cast on which I vaguely remember from childhood (I’m now mid 50s!). Neat and sooo easy and no tight cast on stitches. Thank youuu
Thank you for this very easy to follow video. I tried 3 or 4 other demo's, but found them unnatural and difficult to co- ordinate my somewhat arthritic fingers! Your method is so much easier. Many thanks. ☆☆
This method does make for a neater first row of stitches. I was doing a backward thumb method similar to this but wondered why my stitches weren't even and my first stitch was not quite right even though it started with a slip knot stitch. I like this way better.
.what's the different between long tail cast on and the one with short tail, can I use the short tail cast on , on the project that need a long tail ? I'm a beginner , and your video help me a lot
Wonderful video! Thank you for posting. One question: I've always done this and seen it demonstrated with yarn tail over the thumb and working yarn (attached to the ball) over the finger. Are there different schools of thought on this?

I guess it is kind of off topic but does anyone know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Keaton Maurice try FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)

But what do I do with the end of the tail to keep it from unraveling once I've cast all my stitches?

Can you do the. Wrap stitch.
It has been so longgg
Does anyone know what you do with the unattached excess yarn from your slip knot once you start knitting? Do we cut it off? Will it come undone?
It depends on what you're making, you can use it for sewing up edges at the end of a project. It won't come undone though either way.
Thank you!
Did you ever write up a pattern for your cabled poncho?
I didn't I'm afraid, I need to add a knitting section to my website!
What is the point of casting on with long tail? Im a beginner and i need to know please someone explain :)
It creates a less rigid beginning row so it's good for say hats
