    My Grandfather was ground crew on 149 Squadron and adored the Stirling such that he had little interest in any of the surviving Lancasters we ever took him to see! I still own a brass Stirling that he made, which he mounted on the Bakelite protective cap that went on the front of a Hercules prop shaft. I think it is vital that we get a Stirling back in some form- good luck with the project!

    This has to be a 'must watch' series of video episodes concerning the build of the Stirling nose section. I wish you well with the project and I know there has already been a mountain of work undertaken just to get at this stage of the build.

    It would be interesting to contact Deelen Aircraft museum in the Netherlands. They have a fairly intact Stirling mid fuselage without bombbay. That would fit together...see their website and pictures posted via google maps. Good work done!

    Great timing, friend, ive just built a large scale stirling from thin sheet cardboard, turned out so heavy , i had to make the landing gear assembly out of sticks from outside. The turrets turn, guns pivot, props spin. Let me know if youd like some pix. 👍👍👍

    What a beast of an aircraft
    Often much maligned when you read details about the Stirling in the aviation books but views not always shared by aircrew accounts who speak very fondly of its attributes.
    Cannot understand why at the end of the Second World War,an example of each significant RAF aircraft wasn’t saved.I grew up in Cambridgeshire very close to Oakington where Stirlings carried the RAF bomber commands attack to Nazi Germany early in the war.
    Wishing you every success with your excellent project which I am sure will be extremely impressive….when it’s completed,why not create the rest! Sitting in that cockpit on the ground must have been like having your office on the top floor of a large building.

    In case the reader hasn't noticed the OP is interviewed briefly in video 203 from East Kirkby, he's one of NX611's technicians. I think that there's several bits of Stirlings around the world and probably some individuals with the authority to pull a few of them together long term. But Jacob's stock is undoubtably improved through his association with a proven organisation irrespective that it's a different aircraft. He remarked of his intention to produce subsequent videos.

    A possible idea to get funds is use your cad data and make a 3d printable model, or make a 3d printed kit so people can build along with you as you go.

    My dream was always to see a Lanc, Halifax and Stirling flying in formation. Probably not in my lifetime sadly.

      RC models are getting bigger and bigger. I strikes me that a half scale model of some aircraft can't be far away.

      For years I was troubled by the thought process's behind the naming of the BBMF, as at its inception it only had 1 airworthy Spitfire 1 Lancaster and a Dakota ! .....a bit of a misnomer really since A/ in 1940 the Lancasters unfortunate forebear the Manchester didnt even pass its acceptance trials by 207 Squadron till the end of December 1940 - three months after the BB had ended and only entered operational deployment in January 1941 the same time as the Stirling, with its uprated and corrected version the almighty Lanc not being introduced into operational service until February 1942,
      and B/ try as I might I cannot find ANY reference anywhere to ANY Manchester or Stirling being deployed tactically in the hard won aerial defence of these Islands, Battles and Defiants yes at a push, but Manchesters and Stirlings no,
      not to take anything away from the Manchesters or Stirlings or all the brave crews who fought and tragically died operating them but they would have been about as useful in an aerial defence role as a chocolate fireguard. The BBMF has expanded over the years to its present compliment of half a dozen or so Spitfires of various marks, several Hurricanes, and half a dozen other types various, and in my humble opinion it should be reconfigured to fly ONLY operational types that actually took part in the Battle itself, with a far bigger seperate flight containing every other air worthy type that actually flew whether it actually saw action during the whole conflict or not.....I think it could possibly save quite an amount of Square pegs from being destroyed simply for not fitting neatly into round operational holes

      @@atilllathehun1212 Yes you are right. It was called the Short S36....a half scale flying model of the type constructed to prove the viability of the airframe....which was a usuall practice for Shorts.....sadly though it was scrapped after a take off accident in February 1944

      They THEN went on to acquire a Spitifre (I can't remember which one), purely as a match for the already donated Hawker Hurricane LF.363 which once again (to mention) was THE a/c that started the BBMF
      The Lancaster (PA.474) wasn't even airworthy (again) until 1971
      I'm probably older than you, as it first flew over my head in 1972
      (over my school playing fields) painted up as Nettleton's "KM-b"
      It was restored "off hours" by 44 Sqdn's mechanics BTW (Waddington)
      The Dakota in question, didn't even join the flight until the early 1990's !!
      So how T.F do YOU work out "Dakota at the BBMF's inception" F.F.S
      Man, you're talking such drivel & completely misleading folks here !!
      I first saw the BBMF (collectively) myself at Biggin Hill in June 1974
      Even that date is 16+ years BEFORE the BBMF's Dakota arrived !!!!
      Please state facts, not talk bollocks & utter drivel, lest YOU mislead people

    I always thought it looked like a swan...Something to do with the long neck and upright canopy...I never made the 1/72 Airfix kit and opted for the Lanc...I should probably make one at some point

    I believe a stirling pathfinder with H2S that was downed over germany gave the germans first proof that british had developed cavity magnetron. That spelt big trouble as this improved radar expodentialy

      Hi Michael yes so far the front section of the fuselage forward of Frame 14 is the only part we are planning to build. If you skip the video to 1:32 it shows a diagram of what we are hoping to build.

    Sorry, but sound. I normally have my sound set at 20%, to watch this, I had to boost to 60% to hear anything clearly.
