    I am impressed with all of their splitters but I am also impressed that you are wearing hearing protection. If it's an engine that is running and I close I'll put in ear plugs in a heart beat so thank you for taking care of yourself. Tractor on from west central Illinois

    That splitter is awesome and those deer running around behind you on the hill while splitting the second round was pretty cool as well...

    I have the same tractor. I got a grapple for it and handle big ones just like that. I also have the 22-28 Eastonmade. Best investments ever for doing firewood.

      I bef to differ lol any method of splitting firewood with hydraulics and not by hand is the best method out there people dont understand the most important aspect to splitting wood isnt having the biggest machine its picking the best spots in the wood to split it

    Wow! What great content! Nice production. I ordered the 22-28 and have been holding my spitting operation until it arrives (in Feb). With wood that size you might consider the box wedge with the pullback arm. It makes it a lot less sketchy once it's up in the saddle.

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won’t be disappointed! Very true and I’m pretty sure the box wedge and arm will work on he 9-16 also I may have to give Andrew a call.

      you have to sell wood to be able to afford them
      ive built mine and had way less money in it and still split 32 inch oak no problem
      im planning on doing a box wedge style this summer

      Building can save money however you will be spending a considerable amount of time building, working out the problems you run into, won’t end up with as good a splitter, and will be selling for pennies on the dollar when you are ready to get rid of it. Eastonmade are expensive but hold resale and can pay for themselves in less time than you will spend building.

    #88 video of the giant Red Oak logs was awesome. Thanks for all the videos. Question: I can't get ahold of Andrew at Eastonmade to buy one. Any ideas why?
    thanks.

      It’s pretty awesome! Not sure why you can’t get in touch with him he is usually easy to get ahold of, the only thing I can think of is this covid-19 thing I know he was shut down for a bit one of his employees had it and they may have been out of the office for a while but I think they are back now. Did you try his phone or message online? You can try sending a PM on Facebook too. If you still can’t let me know and I’ll try to get you all in touch.

    Easton Made 9-16 splitter . Another great product made in Canada . Didn't think that the lift would able to take the weight of the round but it did . No problem . I see that you got smart and used the lift table to catch the piece for the initial split . Why let it fall on the ground if you don't have to . Nice video . Thanks

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew over at EastonMade told me it would lift anything I could get to it and so far he’s been spot on. It has handle everything I’ve thrown at it. Thanks so much!

    I have watched plenty of other splitter videos where people were dangerous doing what you did. You made it look doable. The vertical log splitter by PowerSplit looks like allot less work when doing those large rounds.

  • @stevethiel5838
    @stevethiel5838 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wonder if the box splitter attachment with the pull back arm would help? I Have to cut in quarters and lift pieces with tractor on my Splitter. like you said slow, lot of tractor run time.

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah definitely the round would never have to leave the platform. I’m gonna try to get a box wedge for it

  • @digbyodell2924
    @digbyodell2924 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never underestimate the power of hydraulics; they will bend and rip metal before they give up! I saw Andrew Easton splitting some big rounds like that also and large chunks were falling off every which way. Red oak splits quite easily so I'll usually quarter rounds (up to 42 inch diameter so far) with a Fiskars first for much easier handling. If it has knots or is a tough splitting species, I'll rip the rounds with a chainsaw first which not only makes them easier to handle but you can put a straight cut/split through a knot or two so there's less waste scrap; which is my only complaint about such splitters; they smash through the wood no matter what so if the grain isn't fairly straight and precisely wedged on each pass, you end up with a lot more scrap and "odds and ends" firewood.

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true I get a lot more scrap so I started a kindling pile. I had some big stuff before also and I quartered it up with a chain saws first

    iWanna see the wedge all the way up....u said it but iDidnt c it. What a beast lifting those!! Got 2-40" oaks ready for u 😉

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wedge was all the way up when splitting the whole pieces they are just so big it didn’t look like it. The wedge is 17 inches tall so compared to a 39 inch round it wouldn’t quite go halfway across the round

    • @maxair420
      @maxair420 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WilliamsonRidge can maybe u do a video of it raised from the lowest point n to highest point. Never saw that video. Maybe put that 6way behind u to the test with 1 of those 😉

      @maxair420 4 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @JacobSchmittDeerHuntingSchool
    @JacobSchmittDeerHuntingSchool 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should put your tractor bucket on the opposite side of the lift then half of the big peace won’t fall on the ground that way you don’t have to pick it up every time. Might be worth a try!

    • @WilliamsonRidge
      @WilliamsonRidge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still have one more of those big pieces to split, I’ll probably do that it would definitely help, thanks.

    • @henryholliday1
      @henryholliday1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a real pain I have dealt with red oak logs this big and bigger and it is way easier to "noodle" them into quarters with a chainsaw then to try and split them from rounds even with a logsplitter

    Don't think I would split wood in the fields. Best to cart the trunks home, then split inside a barn where the logs can dry. If you split them 100 times then you have 100 pieces to pick up, instead of just one.
