Your thoughts about personal ambition and collective good are spot on as this tends to be the very topic of conversation between Jesus the apostles as we move forward. He does want them to be effective leaders and teachers, but without the pride or assumption of greatness. I think that there are many ways that we can serve today while being "successful" as well. In fact the more influence we have, the more opportunities there can be to make a real difference to more people. Sometimes it's material help but it can also be through dialogue and allowing good people to inspire others, like you do in your podcast.
