I'm a first-year ceramics student and discovered this channel a week ago. it's so incredibly helpful to see established makers work and share their wisdom. thank you so much for these videos!
Kia ora Angela, the bone china paper clay slip work you have done with your sculptural vessels inspired me to work with the same materials and practice a similar fashion with your studio methodology. I am currently in my last year in Bachelor of Creative Practice at EIT, Taradale, New Zealand. I am also interested in textures, translucency and nature these qualities that have influenced the work I have been creating. I am imprinting Rongoa Rakau (native medicinal plants) into the paper clay for my vessels. These vessels are elevated by earthenware clay bases. I fell in love with the translucency of the bone china paper clay slip and I was amazed by the results achieved after high firing. Thank you Angela for sharing your beautiful amazing work...
Gidday Angela. I am a ceramic artist from New Zealand. I have finally found someone who also works with paper clay. How lovely to see the fineness with porcelain. I have a bag of porcelain paper clay sitting in my studio which I am afraid to use. To-day I work with white stoneware paper clay. It allows me to do the fine details on my large figurines without the pieces breaking away in the drying process. The process is rewarding. I am excited to have found your channel. This is great. Thanks for that.
Hi. Do you fire in electric kiln? Do you happen to add other clay pieces in the same kiln? I share the kiln and would like to understand whether during firing there would be any smoke from the paper component that could affect other people arts.
Absolutely gorgeous! One time I had a frustration about wanting to do ceramics and not being able to have access to that at the time. Our focus was on making paper so I made a vase out of paper in rebellion. It turned out so beautiful and your pieces remind me of that.
My experience with paper porcelaine is limited to some experimental work but it's really interesting the specific advantages it presents, especially working very thin. It's a marvelous material, the fired paper thin pieces chime like china but can look like anything from actual paper, textile (which I experimented with) chalky plaster or shiny white milkglass. It's so different because it allows you to work wet on entirely dry too, building in sectionals etc. It's also incredibky light as the paper burns out of it. I'd like to someday do more experimenting with it. This work here is perfectly suited for the material and lovely.
Thank you for such a wonderful video. I would love to try your technique. Is it possible to let the strips of paper clay dry completely to be reconstituted at a later time?

Can you please share what happens during firing? Is there any smoke or whatever that could attach or change color of a standard clay pieces? Thanks
Ingenuity at it's most beautiful. I love the flow of these pieces. She's definitely a Master. Brilliant
As a beginner with ceramic I love it so much when proffesionals teach how they use the materials.
Love and kiss from the Netherlands

Absolutely magnificent, I love the details given with this method. What an inspiring woman.
The fact that it changes shape as it is fired follows the natural inspiration of the work

Is this beautiful work fired the same as ceramic?
Fabulous. Thank you.
Lovely.
What happens to the paper in the firing process? Wouldn’t it all just burn up?
The paper burns out.. making the work lighter than if made without paper.
