Ever try fatwood to light the fire? I find it all over the forest. It's old sap-soaked wood. When the tree dies standing, all the sap runs to the bottom and I saw off chunks then make kindling from it. Burns easily.
Yes there are a lot of fir trees here in the Cariboo region and so, a lot of "fat wood" "sap wood" "pitch wood" as well.. It rots way way slower than the rest of the dead tree. Sometimes it's all that's left... It's extra heavy and dense and often takes interesting odd shapes.... hmmmm? maybe a video topic?
Love the axe sharpening lesson. I have been using an old wheel sharpener and it never really gets a decent edge. I like my axe sharp!
