    Really enjoying the podcast world! Thanks for tuning in everyone and for being so supportive!! Top job TC as always! Who should I get next on my podcast? Nico seems to have learned from a very young age how to keep the outside from getting into his private life (growing up as a son of famous dad). He got strongest at that in 2016 season - keeping the media a bay for him to focus on winning. And as much as TC tried, in this interview, again Nico comes across as not letting you in, a hard nut to crack, and always in control. And those rare moments when TC got close, Nico took control by jabbing, asking TC the questions. Mentally very tough.

    After watching this I realized that BBC portrayed Nico in a bad way during their 2014-2015 season reviews and sided with Lewis obviously. Nico is a great guy and a great sportsman. The dedication and the mental strenght he has is surely not something you can find in a lot of drivers on the grid today. It's kind a sad you're no longer on the grid, Nico. Hopefully one day you will make a comeback.

      I mean surely 2016 was only close (5 points) because of the engine Issues? I mean if Lewis won in Malaysia instead of his engine giving up (As well as the other issues throughout the season) then he would have easily been Champion that year. In my humble opinion I would put Rosberg and Vettel in the same calibre of driver (behind the likes of Hamilton).

      @@danielo7985 the thing with seb is that he can't deal with the pressure at Ferrari. At Red Bull, when the car was fast, he rarely did mistakes. But since he is at Ferrari he does errors like that in Hockenheim that he would have never done before.
      Nico trained his mentality for his last season and it helped him a lot to win it even though he had luck. But every driver needs luck
      Maybe Vettel should train his mentality too to beat Lewis so that not only the first half of the season is exciting.

    Fantastic interview TC!
    Nico is genuine and I admire him for achieving his goal and closing that chapter of his life. In spite of the fact that I am a Lewis fan, I have been and still am impressed with Nico's maturity as a person over the seasons. He is grounded and places his value on the important things in life...his spouse and his family.
    TC thank you for such great questions and I earnestly enjoy listening to these podcasts. For me, they offer so much more than a video interview because I'm able to focus more precisely on the thoughts.

    I hate the fact that Nico gets so much hate, he is the only man who was able to take the fight to Hamilton and defeat him. it took every fibre of his being to do so as well. Tom, you do amazing interviews, and as someone else said here, your voice is perfect for this. And I think you got the most out of Nico here. Two things: when you’re seventy years old and listen back and here yourself talking about Bose, you’ll think yourself a right twat. ;-) But money must be made, fair enough.
    Secondly, how come you seem to miss the whole point of Nico quitting? He didn’t quit to invest, he didn’t quit for social media, he didn’t quit to become a new energy & technology influencer. He quit because he *won* and didn’t want to go through it again! He quit at the top, achieved want he wanted to achieve, and was able to leave on his own terms. No more rivalry, no more stress. And _then_ he needed to figure out what to do next.

    Lucky? How can anyone say he was lucky to win the championship? Given would be a better argument although I doubt that every driver/team on the grid would go for that. He won the points he needed from previous races and wanted to leave on a high. Personally I feel like he fought so hard to accomplish his dream and found out it wasn't what he thought it was going to be and felt it wasn't worth staying. But discrediting he didn't push Lewis harder as a driver, saying his championship was luck is complete bullshit.

      That's different. Ferrari produced a less reliable car than Mclaren in 2008. But cars in the same team should have the same or similar reliability. In 2016, Rosberg had one mechanical problem that cost him 3 points in Britain, while Hamilton had many mechanical problems across quali and race and grid penalties that cost him around 70 points. Now that a major disparity of cars in the same team.

From mechanical issues (i.e. not punctures), thats 25 points he lost extra which is nothing like 2016 and considering Hamilton had an 80 point lead when he won the championship (and then stopped caring), I'm gonna go and say it didn't matter one bit.

    • @michaelastockbauer672
      @michaelastockbauer672 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Varun Kaushik beat Schumacher - yes, he did...but Schumacher was 42, 43. Schumacher was far away from his peak. Rosberg would never ever have beaten the "real" Schumacher from 1991-2006. With over 40 years it's just natural and normal that you have lost speed, reflexes etc. - so yes - he has beaten Schumacher. But it was not the "real" Schumacher anymore. But anyway - Nico was definetely a great Driver and he deserved his Championship, and he did beat Hamilton and gave him a really hard time. That proves that Nico deserved the Championship and that he was a much better driver than people think.

    The worst thing that’s happened in the last 2 years is rosberg retiring because he was capable of beating Hamilton maybe not ultimately as quick as Hamilton yet could beat him as much as Hamilton beat him, Alain Prost wasn’t as quick as Senna but could beat him quite regularly nonetheless. I think Rosberg was under rated as he also beat Michael Schumacher in the championship 3 years running albeit not in a championship challenging position then. I think the reason he stopped was to do with the racing calendar getting longer and he’s got a family who he would be missing when you’re travelling around the world non stop for 10 months of the year and obviously drivers of today earn a lot more than the drivers of 20-30 years ago hence he didn’t need to race on to 38-39 years old like Mansell, Prost or Damon Hill and just like Hill had done in 1999 I think Rosberg decided he didn’t want or need to take the risk anymore when he had a family and financial security, but Rosberg retiring removed the threat Hamilton had from within his team, Bottas is good and on occasion can narrowly beat Hamilton but he’s not going to beat him over a season without a lot of bad luck for Hamilton.

    For YEARS I’ve always saw that commercial for non-alcoholic Heineken beer and I kid you not, I only figured out who was in that commercial like 5 or 6 months ago!!!
    Started watching F1 after the commercial was made but while it was still airing so 2-3 years ago? I swear maybe its because I started watching after 2016 that I didn’t recognize him out of the race suit because I had no idea it was him. Or I’m just an idiot.
    It hit me smack in the face mid-sentence. I was just 😳😯couldn’t believe I didn’t realize it.
    So my mother knows I’m a Formula 1 fan and I was answering her questions and it started from explaining Max Verstappen’s background, his father being a in F1 but wasn’t ‘successful’ nor world champion. Which she didn’t understand so I had to explain the chances of a father and son both winning the championship is so rare, it’s almost unheard of.
    So I just began with the recent because they involve names like Hamilton which she might be able to understand, and as soon as I start explaining Nico Rosberg and his father Keke Rosberg, I just paused.
    ….
    In the middle of my sentence it hit me. I know who’s in that fricken Heineken commercial!
    They played it for YEARS I think 5 years at least. Maybe they still do but I don’t watch anything with commercials anymore excepts TH-cam and yes, I’ve seen it play in ‘21 on TH-cam.
    I was watching TH-cam when they played that commercial and I said, “they’re STILL playing this commercial?” It was right there. And I didn’t notice.
    It still shocks me how it took me the whole ‘21 season to flashback a commercial to realize who was in it.
    🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @rachelkoiks
      @rachelkoiks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course I had to share my excitement and my mother goes, “what beer commercial?”
      So I’m trying to sing the song in the commercial including the guitar; “derderderrr, derderd der derr, I wanna be like you, dad”.
      (Like an idiot)
      She had no idea what I was talking about but again this woman has two tvs on, one playing tv and the other she’s playing video games simultaneously.
      So I can’t blame the crazy woman. Obviously I’m not that far off either.
