Thank you so very much for recording us on Thursday night. It was a great privilege and honour to perform there and all of us from The Royal British Legion Christchurch Band thank you for posting this video.
Sat in the kitchen on a cold and damp Saturday morning in France and thought I would watch the video from Menin Gate again. The second watch was even better than my original viewing and it was not the weather that sent a chill through my neck hairs. The video is really well edited and brings the moment to life, this together with the excellent performance by the band was a very enjoyable five minutes and even though a sad occasion brought a warm feeling that our Band produced such a fine moment in memory of those who gave their lives for our today. Thank you to all who made it possible!
Many thanks for the great feedback, I feel very fortunate that the band happened to be there on that particular day, and that it was dark - it's hard to create that same atmosphere during the summer light!
We enjoyed listening to you. It was an uplifting evening seeing people like yourself and the inhabitants of Ypres keeping the memory alive and paying their respects to those brave men who died for our future.
I witnessed this event last Thursday and it was a beautiful occasion. So humbling to be surrounded by Belgium citizens all supporting our lost soldiers. To me that is true gratitude and demonstrated in such a moving and emotional way. It was also a lovely experience to see all the scout troops and schools from Britain over there saying reefs. I lovely piece of film editing as the weather and crowds would have made this very difficult to film... A truthful and beautiful tribute.
As a Belgian of a much later generation, whenever I visit Menin Gate, I always place my hand on the wall with the names. Like you do when you say a final goodbye to a close relative, a very dear friend. We have remembrance places in Belgium, but none is as sacred as Menin Gate.
Thank you for the comment. Someone in the band will probably correct me, but I'm pretty sure it's part of the soundtrack from the film Dances with Wolves by John Barry.

As witness to this event every year, I am very humbled by the people of Ypres (Iepers).

@@CJ87317 Thanks for the correction CJ - John Barry, not John Williams.
Great video. What is the name of the musical piece that begins at the 1:30 mark?

Eine Gedenkfeier, die man in Ypern miterlebt haben muß!
