    When America declared corporations to be people, it began its descent toward oligarchy. No CEO/Corporation should be allowed to donate more to a politician or political party than they are willing to pay their employees.

    No one should be a billionaire. People don't realise how much money it actually is. If you lived for 500 years, and were given $5000 a day for your entire life, you still wouldn't be a billionaire

    • @joechapman8208
      @joechapman8208 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +103

      Exactly. It's so twisted that western societies count how many billionaires they have as if it's a mark of success. Each one is an indictment of that country's system, and this excess money that corporations and individuals hold - money that can never spent - should correctly be seen as siphoned _from_ the economy and lost.

    • @1mariomaniac
      @1mariomaniac 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A billion dollars would be enough for the next 20 or so generations of their family to live a life of luxury. When you get into the territory of having billions of dollars, it's no longer about being able to afford stuff, it's a numbers game at the literal expense of everyone else in the country. We don't get higher taxes for the ultra-rich because "haha funny number go up."

It is mostly hidden, and there is some room for improvement and a little bit of action to be taken to stop the absolute worst of it. Ever since the Reagan era, the signs were blaring in our faces that an oligarchy was on the rise. Reagan reversed the trend of government for the people and with his trickledown economics and union busting, the table was set for the wealthy to become our masters. Before Reagan, we were still operating with a government under the economic policies of FDR's New Deal that concentrated on building up the middle class and offering a hand up to the lower economic class while making sure the wealthy paid their fair share and still did well. Reagan changed all that and it's only progressed from there with over $50 trillion in the country's wealthy redistributed to the top 1%. Now the 1% will rule and they will continue to pick our pockets.

    1) Bernie has never wavered from his position. It's not a joke that he says the same thing for 30 years. It is conviction and dedication. 2) I don't have a problem with people who have good creative ideas and get super rich from them, like with Amazon or Fb. I have a problem with a system that is rigged in favor of the rich and a system that enables the rich to buy politicians. 3) I also have a BIG problem that there is no Elon Musk Cancer Research Center or Elon Musk International Food Security Foundation, etc. Imagine what just a fraction of a fraction of 1 billion could do for a single poverty-stricken and "hopeless" community- not a hand-out, but systemic and structural help. He probably looses that much money in his couch over the course of a year. The only reason he gave money to Brownsville TX was because his SpaceX employees hated living there, so he made it a little nicer for them.

Super summary goes something like : Seems a parallel to human "nature" that any Oligarchy founded on or somehow metastisizing out from its Democratic host will inevitably destroy the host before turning upon itself (as with all the "coincidences" that constantly happen in Old Rus, for instance). A truly intelligent & self-respecting Democratic populace would have excised the malignant growth - but perhaps these people were always a captive & complacent audience, too absorbed with their own idols & differences to realize the nature of the beast amidst their nation?

      It was already considered OLD news back in 2014, all that study did was try to make as much of a logical approach to the matter as possible, to prove what anyone with any sense already knew was true. The fact of the matter is that the US sold its democracy away under the Reagan administration of the 1980s.
      Also personally, I think it is more accurate to call the US a corpocracy, rather than an oligarchy, as it's more the interests of businesses, for the sake of business at work, than just the interests of a small number of rich individuals. There's also the matter of how under Reagan the classification of a corporation was changed to regard a corporation a person under the law.
