    They actually don't sound similar at all. You can hear a much satisfying low end from the NT2-A. But I do agree with the NT1 being the best entry level microphone for bedroom studios. You can't beat that price for the amount of quality you're getting.

    • @EdwardSmithMusic

      You are totally right. They sound very different. I don't know why I said they sounded similar... anyway, my bad!

    • @GearCave
      @GearCave 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can easily EQ the NT1A to sound just like the NT2-A and buy yourself another NT1-A with the price you would have spent on turning a knob.
      The main reason you would get the NT2-A would be the multi-pattern features, but if you don't need that then you're good.

    As an owner of the NT1A I can vouch for it being one of the best cheap entry level studio mics. At first I thought the 2A sounded very dull and flat but it started to show where it excels when you started singing. The 1A just sounds a little too harsh and brittle in the top end at times and it makes the sibilance sound kind of piercing where the 2A had a smoother overall sound. These mics are both beasts for the price and can hang with more expensive competitors

    • @wolfwilkopter2231
      @wolfwilkopter2231 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah thats what i also dislike with the NT1-A or in my case the cheaper Beringer Clone TM1, the top end is a little to harsh for fine higher pitched vocals and needs to be de-essed or atleast tuned down alittle in EQ, where the NT1 or the NT2-A come more neutral out of the box.
      But yeah the NT2-A sounds really dull and muffled out of the box but with the singing and all the effects it really starts to shine.

      There are many mics on the market at a similar price point that you may like more. On the higher end Lauten make fantastic mics and of course there is always the micparts route.
      If you pickup a NT2a at a great price you can't really go wrong. There is also the NT2000 to consider. But then at that price point there are a host of other great options.
      The Lewit 400 could also be an option.
      Just see what suits you and your aplication.

    The mics DO sound different. The NT1A is quite a bit brighter than the NT2A. So it could sound harsh and/or sibilant on some voices. I think both of these mics would need to be auditioned before deciding which one of them would suit anyone's voice.

    I like NT1-A more for vocals, I think if NT2-A was a dynamic mic like Sm7b it would be better to work with a more plain sound, but having that high end boost on the NT1-A gives you a better start for vocal processing (Having to make less processing for a clear bright sound)
    Even though it is also a less versatile microphone which works well in certain specific type of voices

      @BDAILY365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rylandweet7750 They're all very good mics at this level. I also have an at4050 which is pretty comparableto all these.
      I think at this point it's better to focus on the singing. I have sang for many years so all these work great. They're all very smooth and clear with full balanced characters. I can get so many different tones with the mixer and my ability to manipulate my vocal tones.
      If you are not able to get a good tone out of these mics...focus on improving your vocals. I can pretty much sing out of the cheapest 1$ mic and sound good and that's how it is with all singers....lots of practice for years!

    • @rylandweet7750

      @@BDAILY365 to be completely honest, I have been doing vocals for over 10 years now , pretty much every single day, I’ve used quite a bit of mics ranging up to 3 grand down to a hundred bucks lol the only mics I never really tried were rodes because I’ve read reviews that they are to bright , the other day I tried the rode nt1 and I honestly liked it more then my at4050
      I find the at4050 full bodied except for the low end, sorta dull in my experience,
      I hate the high mids on the at4050 and love the high mids on the 4040
      But I hate how the 4040 sounds a little see through if you know what I mean?
      I’m starting to find that cheaper mics sound better on my voice because they don’t pick up so much detail

Thanks for this very helpful video.

    • @meldmagic
      @meldmagic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      🤠 The Air button just gives an EQ boost on the upper frequencies to make the voice sound clearer. If you use it on cheap Chinese mics, it can make the sound more brittle or harsh. Also if you are considering a Rode, get the newer model NT1. It's only available as a kit with pop filter & shockmount & in black only.

    I think everyone who says there's a small difference in the sound from these two microphones must be listening on their phone speaker at a busy city street. The difference is much bigger than I thought. At first I didn't like the NT2-A sound as much as the NT1-A because the sound is so much boomier in the lower frequencies and I was thinking it was muffled and not as crisp and bright. But then I noticed that it didn't actually lose any crispness - it was similar but with more bass and lower mid frequencies. It does sound a little richer and higher quality but I think both microphones could sound very similar with EQ tweaked for both.
    Fantastic singing btw! Well done!

    Hey there! I literally just got the interface - Scarlett focusrite 2i2 - 3rd gen interface with the Rode nt1-a. I’m having a problem though which is incredibly frustrating. I’m getting literally a ‘Wind Noise’ with a mix of noises that sound like thunder and static robotic noises also with the interface and I can’t seem to fix it at all or figure it out. Have you any idea what this problem could be? The Rode mic is working with it but not as it should because I’m getting those awful noises with my interface and it’s passing the problem onto the mic too because of it. It’s literally so frustrating not being able to figure or fix it. Now I do have an older MacBook- I have a mid 2012 one with MacOS Catalina with update 10.15.7 and I’m just wondering would the system or update I have be causing this noise or can I rule that out? I’m really struggling to figure this out so anything you know that may be the problem would be very helpful! Thank you! Ps, great video 👍

    I have had the original NT1 for more than 20 years and it's still going strong....I was looking to get a new mic and was thinking about the NT 2 A...thanks for the comparison of these two mics...I was after the switchable patterns and pads...I like the sound of the NT2A....so I think that will be my next new mic....cheers

      Take a look at the new NT1, it has less noise an a lower high bump as the old one, if you don't need the different patterns of the NT2.

    Hey all! So any help is helpful… I’m learning (from my partners passion) about music… the more technical side. But not nearly enough to know what’s what lol so I’m looking to do an at home project for him and in between a USED Clarett 2pre interface with rode nt2a or a NEW scarlet 2i2 with a new rode nt1a… for the same price. He does all vocals… singing/rapping idk what to go with lol

    Plus which under 300 mic for rough rock voice? Example band TMGE

    your voice suites the nt1a more than the nt2a...heard more reverb on the nt1a and it sounded more professional for you, and nt2a sounds like homemade. maybe you need to tune the nt2a to match your voice.

    I have a vintage NT 2 . Looks more like the NT 1 . Has a 10 db roll off, and just Omni - cardio . When this came out if I recall it was around $600 . In any event it’s as close to a poor mans Neumann that you’ll ever find. I always use the cardioid as I just record one voice directly to the face of the mic.
    If you’re older like me BUY A RODE condenser mic.
    Why ? Because your high end hearing goes first,and the mic is bright , many say too bright. Not for me, it’s just right to hear ever nuance. You can always EQ in the mix.

      I meant that it’s a balancing act .
      Look at the XLR plug.
      Mines an older NT 2 , a very heavy mic.
      It fell over ,and dropped about three feet onto a hardwood floor.
      I’m saying this as I was very lucky and only have a bent screen. I can’t believe it still works.

    Ur comparison always never gives the right amount of time to understand the difference due to its shortness of test and also Ur vocal change of voice , and also Ur song effects so best is to test 30 to 45 seconds using each individual mic singing same lines than it is more fairer also U need to use and low range and dinamics and all glezando etc to check every aspect of sound tested, than one can decide which one is really what they really need and U also need to sing on difference notes to see for who's voice it is made for
