- How to format a document in Chicago Style (17th.) and add citations with Word's citation machine: footnotes and endnotes. Chicago Style format 17th edition has changed little from earlier editions. A title page is optional. The author may use Chicago Style footnotes or endnotes.

Thank you, David! Still relevant today! One note that may be of help for others not finding "Manage Styles" in Word 2021: to find "Manage Styles"... Home > Styles drop-down arrow > Manage Styles (there is an A button with a "tick" at the bottom, which opens up the Manage Styles section).

This suddenly appearing in my recommendations after writing a paper feels like a subtle personal attack by the TH-cam algorithm. That said, fantastic advice. Even after working with Chicago for so long, I just could never get the hang of it so these kinds of help videos are a great service.

It has been important technical information about the formatting of page, page break, page numbers starting from next page, setting the default font of footnote, setting Chicago as footnote/endnote style as default in reference tab, and to know that you can switch between the footnote and endnote any time even after finishing the document just at the click of the button. Then you so much for all this.

Cici--A "Works Cited" page is for MLA. For Chicago, you have a references page at the end that lists all works in your footnotes.

This is for a paper but a bibliography is different. Shouldn't it be single spaced for a bibliography?
Yes, in Chicago style, entries on the Bibliography page are single-spaced with a blank line between each entry.

My version of Microsoft word is different than the one in the video. Is there a way to fix this??
Katie--Although there are different versions of Word, all since 2007 have these same features although they may be in different places on the toolbar.

With Chicago, you have a choice between endnotes and footnotes. Your instructor or editor will tell you which to use.

I have a question about the Header number. Does it not include a last name? And thank you for the great video.
The Chicago Manual's sample papers do not include a last name in the header area. Keep in mind that your professor, however, may require a last name in that area. Your professor always has the last word.
