    I remember the owner of the italian restaurant sitting on the boards greeting people. I miss the good old days.

      That was at "Giuseppe's" (which for years before that was "Robert's Homemade Ice Cream") at Plymouth Pl. & Bdwlk. (across the Plymouth Pl. ramp from the Water Park. And the Water Park is where "Gillian's Fun Deck" was from 1929-1986 or 87.)

    Wow this brought back memories. This would have been when I first went to OC as a kid. We've gone back many many times since over the years. Loved seeing the Flanders without the Castaway Cove in front of it.

    Wow so much has changed and so much hasn't. Enjoyed watching this. I had to chuckle at how many pay phones are on the boardwalk. There's not one today. Every night when I was at teenager when I went to the Boardwalk I would call my grandmother and tell her I was having a good time on those phones. I would always pick a payphone down by where the ocean went under the Boardwalk around 5th Street and asked her if she could hear the ocean. It's a different world today

    Wow this is awesome, is this your someone in your family? How did you come to upload this just now after all these years? Do they still own the house to this day? Just great!

    I’m actually more surprised about how much hasn’t changed, rather than how much changed. The waterpark looks exactly the same, the beach club hotel looks the same with the same logo, tee time golf looks the same. I notice that while a lot of the stores themselves are different, the structure of all the buildings is basically the same. I didn’t see Castaway Cove, though. I guess it wasn’t built yet. Overall though, I feel like a lot is similar to how it is now.

      Castaway Cove is where the old Flander's pool / grill was.

    12:41 Still a hotel today in 2023, and condo rentals. Gorgeous historic hotel. It’s their 100th anniversary this year.

    What I find extremely interesting is how far out the beaches go now and how much sand they've built up, the beaches are like double in size now and a few decades ago, there was water under the boardwalk!

    Oves is OK, but the Tiki was better before they tore the boardwalk down back in the 70's. A shame they figured out how to rebuild the beach afterwards.

      Before they moved the Bdwlk. back, The Tiki was on South corner of 4th & Bdwlk., they had good hamburgers. The Sun Spot was on the North corner. And Oves was waaayy at the back of the Beach.

    Summer nights in the mid eighties the boardwalk would become really wet and you'd wipe out on your bike if you weren't extremely careful.

    Wow !! I can't believe how much it's changed !!!! This whole boardwalk is so different now. Changed for the better As for amusements & stores but , I wish the beach hadn't changed ☹️ most of them Jett's are covered up with sand now.

    • @Dalt21
      @Dalt21 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sand is always moving, so if you go back today, the sand doesn’t cover the jetty’s

    This is fantastic. I only wish they filmed where Castaway Cove is now... IM trying to figure out what used to be there

      It was the original oceanfront pools for The Flanders....they were closed in the late 70's, then Playland was expanded into their old spot in the mid 80's

    • @Slotsjunkie

      Before the pirate theme of Castaway cove, it was simply Playland. Instead of the pirate ship out front, there was an Egyptian theme, and college kids would walk around up top dressed as mummies!

    • @MattSolovey
      @MattSolovey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right in front of the Flanders. You can see it on the video. Wide open space.

    • @MattSolovey
      @MattSolovey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember it being Playland but don't remember the Egyptian theme. Maybe I missed that part. There was a few years where I didn't get there. Very interesting.

    • @MrKinglauro

      Actually Playland or Castaway Cove did not expand into the footprint of the Flanders pools until after the owner died and sold the property in 1996.
