YAAY Ep9 - How to re-enter a sit in kayak

  • How do you re-enter a sit inside kayak? There are many videos you can find about re-entering a sit on top kayak, but few about sit inside kayaks. This is because the process takes a bit of practice, and especially if not done quickly, the entire hull of a sit inside kayak can fill with water and potentially sink. Most kayaks contain foam in the bow and stern to help keep them afloat if flipped, but the up righting process can by heavy and tricky if not done in shallow water.
I’d like to give a special shout out thank-you to my mother-in-law for the use of the pool.
No pool liners or animals were harmed by the making of this video. Enjoy!

Great video - I appreciate the realism you are showing with the hard work getting back in and how the kayak is taking on water.

If I can bring it to a shallow area to flip it over why wouldn't I just completely bring it out of the water to empty it?

Very good point, of course you could. I was talking from the standpoint you are not close to shore but in about 3-4 feet of water and need to paddle back to shore or to keep going.

Ahh dude you need to do it in the deep and your in a pool!! Never as easy in the real world and not always we can float to river banks and even at that their still deep! I myself love kayaking and still find it very hard to get back into my kayak and always wish I had a pool to stand on 😂

Pool is the safest way to try flipping your own kayak to practice a re-entry. And yes you can see how hard a reentry is in a pool. So wear a lifejacket in the real world. Be safe - take care!

@@yakaboutayak3895 pools are one place of you can learn but for most of us can’t get to pools the real world of lakes and rivers have to do! It takes time but we get there! Having the powerless feet with no ground to push up off have it’s fun times in the water 😂 this is fun in many ways! I never get into any water with out my PFD even a pool! Our kind of kayaks don’t like to turn over or have water into side them! But always good to have the drills done once so the real time comes you’ll know how!

Not likely if you flip your kayak and take on a ton of water. However a bailer like a small bucket would also work well.

A sponge would work fine after the pump.

And in the real world camera tripods don’t stand on top of the water very well.
