Math rock is an unpredictable mix of guitar experimenting. It can add on rhythms or beats or switch them up altogether, you never know. So yes, it is very intriguing
I have always felt math rock to be the worship of poly rhythms. I love noise rap like clouddead , 13 and god, subtle, themselves . I love their melodies and vocal patterns as much as I love the riffs in songs like this. Experience these sick grooves man.
Hmm...I've always considered math and music two totally different things. I was imagining the band members running melodies through a finite element analysis model and playing the outcome. LOL. Thanks for explaining!
@waffles032 Totally right Dude. It's like the most mysterious and underated music genre ever, but if it were mainstream, there will be no charm to it. Everything that has this mathsy feeling to it, even in metal with bands like Animals As Leaders, Ghengis Tron, Hunab Ku ect... are probably the most complete and mature bands ever. By the way, excuse my english, i'm from france.
Because Japanese are basically the "extremes" when it comes to music : They can create the greatest masterpieces the world has ever known (Nujabes, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Math-rock, orchestral etc), but they can also create the shittiest crap of all time. Like J-pop. J-pop is commercial. The rest (good music) is not. You got your answer here. Fortunately, there are still quite a lot of people, even in Japan, that like good music.
Hello. As you pointed out, the majority of Japanese prefer idyllic groups (like Johnny's AKB group Exile in Japanese) vulgar music. I think that is because it is in the top rank of operated rank in a sense. It is a nation that respects big and bad adjustments, better or worse. I think that I would like to maintain the condition that music is selected by the ranking number rather than my own feeling and it is with everyone. Music like LITE is not commercially successful in Japan, it is regrettable.
@kurobass This is only one of their songs, many others shift constantly, and the term 'math rock' didn't even originally come from how 'mathematic' the songs sounded anyway. Either way, it's more useful to say this is math rock than to split hairs even further... and even then, it's only loose description. Sounds great either way.
@spazabarri Toe = Blend of Math and Post Rock, Mouse On The Keys = Nu-Jazz, Mogwai = Post-Rock, unjustifibale to say that they don't come close, they're in different areas of music :P
@watfhi i tried my best to count it in 5.. but no can do. It's positively in 3/4. Well, i'm not the best drummer in the world but yeah.. it's in 3 not in 5...
god, thats good... these guys sound alot like a speeded up version of some of Akira Yamaoka's works... well, his rock stuff anyways... i might have to look up some more, thats pretty intense...
I'm sorry if I sound ignorant asking this, but could you please explain to me what math rock is? (I generally don't care about genres. If it sounds good, I listen to it. But the term 'math' rock is intriguing)
@SnakeTaint I TOETALLY AGREE WITH YOU i have my MP3 full with all of their songs my fav is Kodoku no Hatsumei! I was even willing to pay 15.50$ for them!
I can't recognize time signatures and stuff like that so I wouldn't know how to recognize a math rock band unless someone tells me. But LITE is the best. Oh, I checked out those bands....Not really my kind of thing....They may have intermittent time signatures but I didn't enjoy them much. Don't know what's wrong with me...
@gonzopoet00 Thank's dude =) I'm gonna check out your brother's band ! It's right that there's some young bands that are really talented those days =] If you like LITE, you will probably enjoy a band called "Toe" they're from japan too and play a really cheerfull music with a lot of energy. worth check out =)
Yeah, true. This style of music is unknow by many, making some bands like this one go unseen, that's uncool ;/ this stuff is the top,i mean..just like Té , they are good at doing music,...good music, don't need lyrics afterall.
This is not math rock. This song stays in 6/4 the entire way through. It's an odd time signature for 'western' popular music but math rock is many time signatures within the course of a track, constantly alternating and changing.
@hvysoul17 Don't be stupid. Things fit into categories no matter what you say. If they didn't then you could put music from bands like Creed and Nickleback side by side with them - which would be absurd.
Breadwinner, Drive Like Jehu, Don Caballero etc. It might be very complex, but trust me, this isn't math rock. I'm not saying I don't like this, LITE are one of my favourite bands. And at least it's not as ridiculous as when people call Foals math rock
I wish most Americans were open-minded enough to have an ear for more than intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus single artist bullshit. That way I wouldnt have to look for this stuff on the internet.

De las mejores bandas del math rock. Excelente tema y excelente album. Saludos desde Argentina!!
The bassline makes me happy in all the right places
I have always felt math rock to be the worship of poly rhythms. I love noise rap like clouddead , 13 and god, subtle, themselves . I love their melodies and vocal patterns as much as I love the riffs in songs like this. Experience these sick grooves man.
Dude, Pink Magick is probably my favorite album of all time at the moment. So good. But all these math-rock j-rock bands are making my head spin.

Toe's a good band too.

pretty damn cool
Best song they have
Great vid

Why Japanese like listening to the idol songs, not LITE?
Because Japanese are basically the "extremes" when it comes to music : They can create the greatest masterpieces the world has ever known (Nujabes, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Math-rock, orchestral etc), but they can also create the shittiest crap of all time. Like J-pop.

@spazabarri Toe = Blend of Math and Post Rock, Mouse On The Keys = Nu-Jazz, Mogwai = Post-Rock, unjustifibale to say that they don't come close, they're in different areas of music :P
Muy bueno....
i take solid dumps to this song

awesome
@watfhi i tried my best to count it in 5.. but no can do. It's positively in 3/4. Well, i'm not the best drummer in the world but yeah.. it's in 3 not in 5...
Sick! ...
This is amazing, i realise that instrumental is their thing but a vocalist would make them something special
god, thats good... these guys sound alot like a speeded up version of some of Akira Yamaoka's works... well, his rock stuff anyways... i might have to look up some more, thats pretty intense...

@kurobass does it? No square root? My bad. Though I'll be the first to admit my maths is rusty since I left college 6 years ago.
6/4.. sick
Oh yes !
Hi
@snakeater how do you mean they are underrated? because they aren't famous outside of japan?
@snrd79 I agree, a great band indeed.
@snakeater i completely agree. what other stuff do you listen to? lets see if we can introduce some new stuff to each other :)
I'm sorry if I sound ignorant asking this, but could you please explain to me what math rock is?
(I generally don't care about genres. If it sounds good, I listen to it. But the term 'math' rock is intriguing)
Piglet - Lava Land negated your argument in 2005, but Japan does their instrumental/math rock up proper
would you mind suggesting some titles that fit your definition of math rock?
This shit 🔥🔥🔥
@SnakeTaint I TOETALLY AGREE WITH YOU i have my MP3 full with all of their songs my fav is Kodoku no Hatsumei! I was even willing to pay 15.50$ for them!
like si viniste por zellendust :D
@Onimyst I've heard foreign pop songs. Theyre not as bad. But I guess thats because theyre foreign and "new" to me.

this does not mean that it is
not math rock.
math rock is more than asymetric meter
actually, this is math rock
toe, mouse on the keys, and now these guys. How come the Japanese own at instrumental music? I don't think Mogwai could come close!
anyone know where i can download?
I can't recognize time signatures and stuff like that so I wouldn't know how to recognize a math rock band unless someone tells me. But LITE is the best.
