    Hello Quadcopter101, I just discovered your TH-cam channel a few days ago and I love it. I always wanted to fly drones and I and got totally into it now. I'm a complete beginner and I'm glad that I found your channel in order to learn the basics and try to progress. To be honest I thought it would be easier than that. I guess I might have been confused by all the actual "fuss" made around quadcopters and especially the marketing which almost puts a Parrot Bebop in everyone's hands. Nevertheless I got myself two mini quadcopters the popular Cheerson CX-10 A and a Camostro AHP. It is challenging and I make the inevitable mistakes that I suppose every new flyer makes. I try to learn step by step but I wish I could have a very large desert field to practice without crashing in every tree around my backyard :-)
    Flying quadcopter is fascinating and addictive. It gives me a feeling of freedom and fun that I couldn't imagine before starting.
    We feel the passion through all your videos and thank you very much for sharing it with us.
    I wonder how long it took you to reach your actual level?
    Cheers from Luxembourg :-)

    Well I think you adequately demonstrated what you get if you use the stock charger, a puffed battery. The same exact thing happened to me when I used it. It had charged it to over 13v which is quite scary.

    Great and helpful videos, all of them. Do you have any tips for regular maintenance on quads? Maybe timeline or signs to replace motors or ESC. I would love to keep this falling out of the air if at all possible. Also do you use any lubrication on the battery connection, mine is kind of difficult to unplug., Any info would be great.

    Nice and steady flight. That delay when you hit the RTL was a little sketchy though, but it worked. I've been thinking about getting this quad but not to sure about it just yet. I've been getting pretty good flying with the Tarantula X6 and been wanting to get a quadcopter with longer range and gps. Any suggestions?

    thank you for the video. The price sure has dropped since the have brought out the new CX22. I have the CX20 also. Have you considered doing the calibration video for both the controller and the quad as an instructional video> There are a lot of them out there but none I have found that are very concise in showing the step by step with the open source version. Thanks again your videos always show me something that helps me out with my quads.

    Yay! Very happy you have your CX-20 flying good now 😁 one of these times your flying it use alt hold to zoom around in... it's tons less jerky then GPS pos hold. did you notice how it repositioned itself when doing a RTL? That can actually be adjusted in mission planner (on or off) anyhow congrats on another excellent flight from a big fan of yours

    Having Blade 350QX3 just with the anti-jello mount I can confirm that in manual (Stability) mode it's much smoother too than flying in altitude hold mode (AP mode). (However in very low wind it's both almost perfectly stable)

    Great vid I also agree flying in manual mode is best I don't bother with the GPS or the other options! I have had mine for 3 months and I haven't had any troubles with mine! When your in control of the craft there should be no reason for flyaway and that's good for me lol ! Have fun flying 👍

      Camshaft Shaft Yeah, but I still make sure that I have a GPS lock before takeoff, just in case I fly out of range or the battery gets weak ;) But I've read that some just drop when the battery dies. Is this older versions of the firmware, cause mine does a return to home when the battery gets weak? (not that I regularly fly until the battery dies)

    Both the CX-20 and WLTOYS V303 seem to be going towards the trend of a "low cost DJI Phantom Clone". Neither of these have the capabilities of a DJI Phantom, but do you think one of these Chinese Manufacturers will come out with a cheap Phantom clone?

    Im new to quadcopter. I broke the landing gear trying to land it in manual. But i fixed it with a little bit of tape and glue. I have one question for return home should i be in a very large and opened area? I tried it and it went about 30 feet and almost hit my neighbors house. I switched it into manual and caught it. Why doesnt it work? Thanks!

      Sly Skateboarding Wow. This is definitely not a quadcopter to be learning to fly with. You may damage property or hurt someone. Highly recommend that you consider putting away for a short period to learn the basics of flight. An excellent yet cheap quadcopter for this purpose might be the following th-cam.com/video/Q992rOi2dTY/w-d-xo.html
      For return to home to work, you must have GPS satellite lock. Also, it's important to calibrate your compass after its arrival from China. If you've never done it, here's how th-cam.com/video/uz4_8RYXeD0/w-d-xo.html

    Good morning Quad! Thank you for your suggestions, I followed the video instructions and all was going well. At least for 30 seconds. The Cheerson starts beeping, then loses power. I can hardly hold it at say 6 feet high on full throttle. I took the battery to the RC store to confirm, all 3 cells are good and the charge is at 98%.
    Any thoughts?
    Thx!

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve S Something is draining the power. Either through a short or through excessive friction. The first and simplest thing to check is friction. Gently turn each prop by hand, feeling for any unusual resistance as compared to the other three propellers. If you notice resistance or grinding, it is possible for debris to get inside the motor (had this happen to me once). Try to clear the debris with tapping and blasts of air. It may be necessary to remove the motor. If you can't clear it, then motor replacement may be necessary. The other possibility is a short circuit. Do all of your lights work? Notice any unusual burning smell. If so, it may be necessary to open the canopy to look for the source of the short. If unfamiliar with electricity, might want to someone who is comfortable doing such investigate for the short.

    • @steves6557
      @steves6557 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quadcopter 101 Thanks Quad for the early reply. You nailed it man! One of the motors must be defective or burned out. On the last run, it was hot, too hot to touch and yaw was out of control. I opened up the housing, blew it out with canned air, reassembled, et cetera and 3 motors spun [extremely low throttle] while 1 occasionally would lurch 1/4 to 1/3 turn.
      I bought from Banngood.com, so curious to see what it's like to go through their warranty dept. So far have only read horror stories, so I'm not optimistic. In the worst case, I may have to get a new motor, clockwise.
      Assuiming I have to replace the motor, I'll head to GearBest. Do I drop your name when I buy from them for you to get your credit?
      Thanks again Quad! You really helped me dial in on this!

    Good morning Quad! I'd like to ask for your help with setting up my Cheerson CX-20. Is it necessary to bind before each flight?
    I believe I made an error setting up, is there a re-set or calibration procedure you know of? I've not found any I could follow searching with Google.
    Lastly, when the quad is plugged in, the remote turned on, the next step is the motor unlock holding the throttle to the bottom right then wait for the red light to be steady? Then what?
    Thanks man! I'm really struggling here.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steve S I'm trusting that this isn't your first quadcopter? If it is, would strongly recommend that you stop and not attempt to use the CX-20 as a learn to fly quadcopter (much cheaper toy quadcopters are much better for this purpose). You'll break it, break something else, or hurt somebody/something/yourself. But if you already know how to fly a quad, then here's how to calibrate the compass . Just do it again as shown. th-cam.com/video/uz4_8RYXeD0/w-d-xo.html
      And here's the Cheerson CX-20 instruction video th-cam.com/video/yCu4GwvNFoI/w-d-xo.html

      No, this isn't my first quad, [Hubsan 107C] it's my second. It is however my first quad with GPS or this size. I haven't broken anything yet, as I've been careful to keep it low, no more than say, 20 feet high.
      I should be ready to try again on Saturday AM after my tutorials, and found a great RC air-park, [no trees], to fly in. Maybe even a seasoned vet or 2 to offer advice.
      Thanks again Quad and I'll let you know how I progress.

    Hey quadcopter101 I just thought I would tell you if you go on mission planner upgrade the firmware if u want you don't have to! But if you go into the parameters you can adjust the max angle to what ever you want! It's set at 2500 from the factory but I set mine to 3500 and it's like a rocket now it's like a new quad and if u do the calibration wizard it flys nice and steady!

    Hi Quadcopter101,
    What would you think of the Cheerson CX-20 drone as a step up from the SYMA
    X5SC?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be somewhat a big leap. Would recommend an intermediate step such as Tarantula X6.

    • @eitansela
      @eitansela 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quadcopter 101 Can you please explain why?
      Do you mean it is better to learn more flying skills with the intermediate X6, rather then jump to the CX-20?
      On the other hand, the CX-20 has GPS position hold, so it should be easier to fly...
      I would be really happy with more clarification, because I am a Syma-X5C veteran and I am thinking of my next quad :-)

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes if you've gained enough experience from flying the X5 so that you no longer need color cues to maintain orientation.

      Eitan Sela I started with the Syma X5C then went to the Syma X8C just to get used to the size. much heaver takes some time to get used to. I now fly both my X8C and my CX-20 and Im glad I took 101's advice and bought the middle one first. I do a lot of video with the CX-20 but I keep up my flying skills with the X8C....

    • @eitansela
      @eitansela 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      AZ Quadcopters That's what I am going to do, sort of. After my syma x5c was lost in a tragic circumstances ;-) mainly to the fact that I was at the limit of its range (only 30 meters...), I bought the x6 tarantula. It is a more heavier and "strong" quadcopter with range of 300 meters, so I would not have the unfortunate lost of range just after 30 meters.

    Good review. Video came out reasonably well for no gimbal. Of course it was in the hands a pro, nice job. I fly mine in manual mode most of the time. If I am flying a roof line on a house I will use Alt hold. I have never used position hold I just don't have a need for it and after seeing some of the results don't care to. Places that I fly I don't get that far a way so I have not use the RTL button yet neither. I never used the battery charger that came with it read some reports that it will ruin the battery that why I bought the ECO charger.

      Also, did you calibrate its compass for your current location?

    • @suazzz3070
      @suazzz3070 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quadcopter 101 Yes the green light is steady but when I take off after I calibrate it in gps it still drifts around? One person said the cheerson cx20 in gps has to be up a certain height before the gps works correctly, I'm not sure if that's correct

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No that doesn't sound right. But I had nothing but problems with the CX-20 when I had it. But what may help is to let it sit for a few more minutes after the green light to give it a chance to acquire more satellites. Also make absolutely certain that you are in position hold mode, and not altitude hold mode.

    @rayr1444 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would like to make an observation about your and other's comments about more expensive quad copters, such as this CX-20, not being for "beginners". While I agree with the point of taking care with manual landings to prevent damage, that being said, I DO believe the GPS position hold and Return-to-Home features are VERY suited for a beginner. Both of these features can avert disaster for someone who loses sight or control, as all beginners inevitably will do. The return feature is in fact, more suited for beginners than experts. With the exception of exceeding controller range accidentally, generally, a proficient flyer would not require the feature. Your ideas on this?
    PS. Your videos are a godsend to new enthusiasts!

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ray R I disagree. There is no such thing as failsafe. Fliers who depend on these as a "crutch" will eventually run into a day where they do not function as designed. It is very important to know how to maintain orientation and bring these 2 to 3 pound quadcopters home manually from a distance before they fall from the sky on someone or something th-cam.com/video/_U8iHn_2l0U/w-d-xo.html

    • @rayr1444
      @rayr1444 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray R Perhaps you misunderstood. I agree a beginner SHOULD learn to control the unit manually, in all conditions and not rely on the failsafe options. However, using YOUR logic, fail safes are unnecessary and should not be incorporated, because if an experienced flyer doesn't need them, then why are they even built into an advanced unit? That is wrong. Fail safes have a purpose and are for everyone, BOTH beginners and experienced flyers! But even more so for beginners, but only in emergency situations, not as a normal landing practice. That is why they are incorporated! If I buy a copter that has faulty fail safes, then I would return the unit and buy one that works. Features are features. They should work. That said, one could have ANY function fail, even the normal ones. A faulty battery, transmitter, etc, could cause a crash anywhere. One must ALWAYS use good judgment wherever flying. On that we all agree I believe. Consider: A FTL function could avoid an accidental crash in "the playground" someone referred to. Would it be better to not have it and let it crash?Love your videos. They are valuable!

      Skating Brothers Six axis gyro stabilized with auto leveling for this one. It's meant for aerial video, and is by no means an acrobatic quadcopter.

    You have had really bad luck with your CX-20, maybe you should write your name and information on it just in case it ever decides to take off on you someday. Well, after that you may not want it back. ;-P

      Snip Bo2 you can get FPV gear from online vendors like gearbest or bangood .. I usually go with ebay and vendors located closer to me so I can get super fast shipping if you have an action camera installed just grab an adapter cable to use it as your FPV camera
