    Great video, as always, Gary. Watched your collaboration with Joe Blogs on 3rd Sept and absolutely loved it. More please! Interesting to see that ICM included decals for the hakenkreuzen, if you want to include them on the model

      Thanks Ian. Not quite on Joe's level on YT but hey, who knows, right?

    Looks amazing kit the only thing to take into to account is that some of them cockpit instrumentations
    And equipment were kept as the aircraft was flown in and war head
    Attached ( brilliant diarama)
    But on the 1/48 scale would be noticeable
    Have read at least a dozen books on the mistel so lots of photography to
    Go on .
    But definitely a Xmas present for myself shame no TA 152 as the
    Parasite aircraft would be amazing with ju 88G/S

    That BF109 has some thrust to weight ratio getting that monster aloft

    looks like a fairly decent kit, particularly given the interesting subject!

      The Bf-109 is an old-ish kit but the Ju-88 is fairly recent. I have high hopes!

    I don’t know about you or the guys out there but l always get butterflies of excitement when l open the box of my next model kit that l’ve decided to do and the thing is when l see you open your next kit l get the same reaction just a observation 👍

      I get a proper buzz the first time I look at a new kit - especially if it is a new tooling. I'm lucky that I've got a few more coming my way soon!

    Looks a very good kit, I've built that Revill Mistal, I'm sure you will do a far better job than managed.

    When I saw this and the shape of the warhead on the JU88 I thought immediately that this was a massive shaped charge warhead with a standoff probe. This would make it a design to defeat heavy bunkers or reinforced structures. Looking on line there is some mention of it being used against the D day landings for which it would be very unsuited, so I wonder if it ever flew in anger.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was used in anger, just not very successfully! It is indeed a huge shaped charge. From what I understand, they were used after D-Day to attack the Mulberry harbour, later to attack bridges in the east to hold up the advance of the Russians. I'm not sure how the thing was even aimed, I am certain there are many viewers here who will know! I guess what would have been useful was a two-seater on top carrying a weapons officer with a command link to the bomber to steer it onto the target.

    • @allanrichards3752
      @allanrichards3752 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was aware of the Henschel Hs 293 tv guided bomb that was used for anti shipping and on D day bridges. I can't see how this weapon system could work without guidance unless the poor pilot was supposed to stay with the JU 88 until almost the last moment@@garys_stuff

    You might not use the swaths that are supplied with this kit, but things like the engines, unused props, guns etc would be terrific for making a diorama of a life in a maintenance hangar when the bombers were away on a mission. Remember that you can train a monkey to fly a spaceship, but it takes a mechanic to keep it running. All hail the erks! By the way, what is a "swath"?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      I recall that in the early days of spaceflight, astronauts were looked down on slightly by test pilots as being little more than "spam in a can". Of course, sending chimps into space before humans didn't do anything to correct that impression! With you entirely on the heroic erks. What's the point of a dog's teeth if there's no dog behind them?

    Nice kit and i think option 3 with the red wing tips looks the best for the bf-109. I look forward to seeing your build videos for this.

      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the red tip Bf-109 is very smart. I am tempted...

    The strip decal are for the dive brakes on the under side of the ju88

      Thank you - they're not modelled on this Ju-88 so I am assuming they do it to get round the three lugs that seem to be in the way.

  • @randytaylor1258
    @randytaylor1258 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very promising. Remember to go easy on the weathering, particularly the bomb, as these aircraft had limited flying time.
    Should be spectacular!

    How the dickens did the pilot get up there?

      Ladder. A very tall ladder.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A very long ladder, one assumes... difficult to see from these photos but possibly from the wing of the bomber rather than from the ground directly? www.luftwaffephotos.com/lmistel1.htm

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also interesting that often the Bf-109 is shown with wheels down even sitting atop the bomb. Perhaps you couldn't start it with wheels up or you had to select wheels down to synchronise gear selection with the bomb portion before take-off?

    • @soppdrake
      @soppdrake ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Amazing bit of kit in the form of a competently packaged kit from ICM. This will look so awesome on a shelf - a big shelf! The Luftwaffe used these with winter camouflage, but with FW 190 fighters on top.

    • @soppdrake
      @soppdrake ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The link you posted shows a long ladder from the ground up the the 109’s cockpit 😮
