What an AMAZINGLY TALENTED DESIGNER he was!!! He had such a clear vision of what ELEGANCE, STYLE, and TIMELESS SOPHISTICATION is all about to say the least!!! My personal FAVORITE DESIGNER of ALL TIME is Monsieur Hubert de Givenchy; Mr. Mainbocher is synonymous to me with him even though their styles were somewhat different but their essence, QUIET SOPHISTICATED ELEGANCE!!! I AM an OLD HOLLYWOOD movie buff meaning from silent movies to about 1950, what this documentary did not mention the number of movies from that era he styled the Leading Ladies! What a WONDERFUL informative documentary video, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
Remember one thing Christian Dior came to the United Kingdom. I worked with a designer called Norman Hartnell who was designing for the Royal family. Dior saw his clothes went back to Paris and imitated them and then launched what was the new look
@@FashionQuestionThey’re not forgotten! Norman Hartnell was both elevated by his work for the Royal Family but also limited by it because naturally it had to be classic and conservative, not least because that was the late Queen’s personality.
Madonna paid homage to Mainbocher in the Vogue music video. At minute 3:49, the photo of the corset from 1938, Madonna repeats the same pose in the clip, watch the video, it's fantastic.
Such beautiful clothes! It's a shame he's not more of a household name when it comes to talking fashion history. At least I've never heard of him. His designs are right up there with Chanel.🩵

Oh yes, thank you for sharing! Norman Hartnell was also a great designer of that time; it’s a shame that these names are almost forgotten…
