    People who don't do eBay are shocked whenever we discuss margins. 10X, 20X or more is possible out there. And the best items might be 100 to 200X (pay $1, sell for $200). Books in particular can have really high margins, in part because the price of used books is typically low. Bought a bag of books for $1, all auto repair manuals. Most were from the manufacturers rather than Chitons and Haynes. That $1 bag has so far resulted in over $300 in sales, and I still have a handful left. Sure there are fees, so maybe I cleared $250. Now these finds and sales are unusual, but finding a $1 book and selling for $15 to $20 is very common. +100 on trends. Trends come, and then they go. You really have to get those items listed and sold, as trends die and if you still have the stuff hanging around in your death pile, look out. Inventory is not an investment. You need to keep it moving. I love selling lots of books.

      My son purchase a item for $100 here in Australia . Send it to USA to be refurbished which cost $300. Then sold it to a guy in Las Vegas for $1500 plus ship. He think I crazy turning $5 into $30.

      Are physical books really still a high selling item in 2024 tho?

    • @wwz1011
      @wwz1011 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@empowereveryone7063 books tend to sell slow but the margins are worth it. Just sold a John Deere shop manual, $75, paid nothing as it was in the free bin. Check sell through rate on books, most are slow. But if you have the room, nothing compares margin wise. Minimal $$ to get started. And realize, not all books sell.

    Your simplifying, I managed a retail store and yes margins are smaller. I'd a good friend had a furniture store and they are of course quite different than generalized retailers or club stores. General retail measures floor space value and performance as that is the asset. The golden days of furnishings changed drastically over 60+ years and in time he transitioned to pre-owned fine furnishings and did fairly well as people didn't know what they had. That said most retailers operate on consignment which is a distinct advantage. Most resellers fly under several radars and as a former manager of a retail store and you a former owner you know exactly what I'm talking about in home based hard goods not to mention if employee's come into that fray.

    Led Zeppelin is my favorite band! My favorite songs by them are Kashmir, Over the Hills and Far Away, and Friends (I can even play a couple of these on guitar, not at Jimmy Page's level but who is, ha ha)... No Quarter and The Rain Song are beautiful and amazing too. Yes 70s music had some special magic for sure, though I'm biased having been born in the 70s. Thanks for the great videos, they're always inspiring to your fellow resellers!

    Mike I find your TH-cam videos informative and entertaining. In NY cold weather has closed down my weekend yard sale sourcing. You have mentioned Savers many times. I haven’t been to the two local ones in over seven years - I gave up going to Savers, Goodwill and Salvation Army because of high prices and never finding anything worth my time. Anyway I went to the two Savers last week and was pleasantly surprised. My selling niche is one many shun vintage china and glass. The first Savers I went to is in a middle income area - clean well organized; very good staff. No bins of books but six or more people going through many shelves of books with Cell phones and some type of reader - buying books. Since china/glass are very longtail items I look for an overall $1 cost to $10 sales ratio. I did find two plates for $2.99 that sold within a week for $20 each plus a good pattern of Noritake. Tuesdays is their senior citizen day 30% discount; plus I signed up for the frequent buyer program with points that lead to free purchases. I was surprised to see several self-checkout registers. The second Savers is in a lower income area this was disorganized; dirty and under staffed. Nothing was of interest to me. I am happy I went to the one further away 25 miles first instead of the closer 15 miles away - or I probably wouldn’t have gone further.

    I was very hard on my shoulders when I was young. If I do physical work for a long time my shoulders ache. I changed the garage door springs the other day and I was sore for a day. If it is the left side only you might want to get your heart checked out. It may not be anything, but better safe than sorry.
