Great video! For a camera backpack I’d highly recommend the f-stop gear mountain series. I use the Tilopa 50L. It’s ridiculously ergonomic and easy to hike with for many hours. If you fancy a camo upgrade for your lens, I use CamShield from Tragopan - solid protection.

I will recommend to check out Shimoda action or ADVENTURE PACK for camera backpack.

Shimoda seems to be the winner for a rugged, photography specific backpack. I appreciate your recommendation!

@@liamdmcinerney I use the Atlas adventure bag over my Shimoda (version 1). The atlas fits the 200-600 attached to a body. It can, at the same time, fit a 400 2.8. Definitely a bag I recommend. Gura Gear 30L v2.0 is also a popular bag, but I don’t own one…
Edit: I also have a large f stop insert cube that I can put into a backpacking bag, that works ok too.

I use sony A7RIII, which im happy with. for bagpack I use Shimoda action x50. Really nice bagpack for wildlife, if you need more space, look at the x70

Hey Tobias, I have seen the Shimoda line and those look ideal. Rugged, but also designed for camera gear. If I were to buy a bag today, the x70 would be the winner. Currently looking to purchase the A74, which I think will be a good middle ground for video and photo. Thanks for the recommendation!

I use an A7iv with 200-600 and it's a solid camera but if doing professional wildlife go for A1 if the budget allows or professional landscape then a7rv. A7iv is the sweet spot in my opinion

Would love to consider the a1, but my budget has other ideas haha. I do professional architecture work as a side business, so I agree the A7r5 would be the best in that regard. My thought process is that I would get the Sony A74 or A7R5 and use that for 1-3 years, then purchase the successor of the a1 while using the A74 or A7R5 as my vlog/b-roll camera. I appreciate your input!

since i do alot of video i am using the A7 IV but if i were to do landscape and wildlife id probably go with the A7R V as it really is that sweet spot

Thats where I'm leaning (right now). The new AI tracking AF seems great and has some positive reviews so far. With video, I rarely would need anything more than 4k 60p so either option would be great in that regard. Thanks for your input, Mr Holmes!

@@liamdmcinerney for sure, yeah if saving money is a concern the A7IV is a really good camera for the price and is definitely worth every penny

Great video! Im on the fence of if I should get the Wimberely lens foot or one of the more expensive options. Do you feel like the need for a tool is a noticeable downside?
In addition, I use the Tragopan Koklass V2, its a bit bulkier, but gives so much comfort. I can sit for hours in it, as it has a really nice backrest.

Oh man, we have so much in common. Don't know where to start. 😄
I do/ did use the Sony A7 IV with the 200-600mm lens, although I just switched to the Nikon z9 and currently the 400mm f/4.5. Why did I do this change? My A7 IV is a great camera but I think it's not the best camera for wildlife, at least not if you want to get most of the time sharp photos. With fast wildlife (birds) it happens that photos are not sharp. To avoid this you will need a camera with a dual stack sensor, in this case the Sony A1. So why did I switch to Nikon instead getting a A1?
When I restarted taking photos I was only focused on landscape photos (I have the 16-35 f/2.8 GM, 24-70 f/2.9 GMII, 70-200 f/2.8 GMII and the 200-600). I do landscape photos but I also find my self much more in the scenario of wildlife (bird) photography. In this specific case I think Nikon is the better option. I can get so many different lens options for a really good price and they keep coming up with new z mount lenses that are awesome (e.g. 400mm TC f/2.8 or 600mm TC f/4, 800mm f/6.3). The cameras are made for outdoor, so I don't need to worry about water or dirt.
BUT, I still think Sony cameras are really good, probably even better than Nikon, I just think the Nikon universe is the better one for me right now. I still have my A7 IV and all lenses though.
When it comes to a good backpack, I am thinking of getting the Mystery Ranch Terraframe 80. It's a military grade backpack with a lot of options. I love that it has a "carry frame" and you can put extra equipment between the Backpack and that frame. If you put a ICU unit in that backpack for your camera equipment, I think you have a great backpack with a lot of space that is really comfortable.
If it comes to a good comfortable chair: I just got the Koklass chair. It's a pretty low chair so it fits in a blind.
I actually use the same tripod :D looking forward for more content. btw. do you have a instagram channel?

Thanks for the detailed reply! To start, I do agree that the ideal camera body is the A1. Sensor size, frames per second, autofocusing , and video options are very enticing. At that price tag it's just not in the cards right now. The way I see it, I'd probably get something like the new A7R5 and use that camera body for the next 2-3 years and then upgrade to Sony's successor to the A1. If I could do a full swap from Sony to Nikon, especially that Z9, I would solely for the weather proofing. I just simply don't trust Sony's camera/lenses to not get damaged...and I enjoy those harsh environments.
Ive noticed that shooting images with faster shutter speeds, I turn off the lens stabilization and it seems to render sharper images. This was a tip I got from Stefano Ianiro (on YT). But I've forgotten to switch it back on...that's on me I suppose.
The mystery Ranch Terraframe 80 seems perfect. Ive watched a few videos with Morten Hilmer and he approaches his backpack situation in the same way. A good military grade pack with ability to carry a lot of gear is going to be ideal. I'm of the belief you shouldnt "baby" your gear in the field, so knowing that I can toss that bag onto rocks, snow, dirt, etc without causing damage is what I'm after. Thanks for that tip!
I've seen that koklass chair and it looks perfect, although I do wonder if it's too big for hike-in situations. Either way, it would be an upgrade from what I'm using now.
Glad we are using the same tripod, I've been very happy with it so far. Just got back from my trip in Big Bend and was pleasantly surprised with the pairing of the Robus tripod and Leofoto ballhead. I'm excited to share those videos in the coming week/s.
My instagram handle is @liamdmcinerney I havent posted on there in awhile, but please check out the images I've shot through the years! I'll definitely be sharing the pictures I've captured here on TH-cam, but may start posting on instagram to link my YT page to share the story of how I've captured those images.
