This can tell us that sometimes in life, just like Peter Parker said "You wont know when your ready, it's a leap of faith" That scene I feel is very similar to this one with Shinji and Misato, that's why I love it.
What's going on is that you should watch nge. You will experience some low feels but it's all part of how we can all relate with the characters. This isn't your happy story. Prepare yourself. And congratulations 😣
