Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Only discovered them 6 years ago and they have already taken a spot in my top 4 favorite groups of all time. Right up there with Pink Floyd, Rush and Genesis.

This song was specially written for Tarja's operatic voice at the time, BUT now there is FLOOR JANSEN who can sing anything, in the PERFECT way like a storyteller and her standards are so high that she knows no equal, the sky is NOT the limit, that's why the old Tarja and Anette Nightwish songs are NOW of the Dutch Valkyrie Queen.

Nightwish is from Finland, although Floor, who is their third and current vocalist, is dutch. She is living here in Sweden, and is married to the drummer of the swedish metal band Sabaton. Then there's Troy Donockley, the british multi instrumentalist and singer, who joined the band around the same time as Floor. The bassist, Marko Hietala, is no longer in the band, sadly, and he is an awesome singer as well. Before he left, they actually had three very good singers in the band, Floor, Marko, and Troy.
Speaking of Troy, he is a part of a little side project called Auri, together with Tuomas (founder/keyboardist/main composer and lyricist of Nightwish) and his wife Johanna. Tuomas also did a soundtrack of sorts to the graphic novel about Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa. The album is called The Life And Times of Scrooge.

You have started on a wonderful journey with Nightwish. You will find it is a band made up of extremely talented musicians who all play for the song. No egos here and the result is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The heart and soul of the band is the keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen. He is the composer and lyricist of the great majority of their music. Holopainen is often called the "Metal Mozart", quite deservedly IMO. Next up, maybe a completely different change of pace in the song "Romanticide" from this same concert. You will find that, with Nightwish, every song is different and there isn't a bad song in the bunch.

Please forget about comparisons. Nightwish is unique and have always being braking new land in music. Tuomas' s compositions and writing are deep poetic, created to be individually interpreted. Often lyrics with quotes from scientist or writers.... but no one can experience the depth of his creativity, in just 1 - 5 songs..
And Floor's techniques are unmatched, mostly because she invents and develop them herself. You will see.

When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’.
Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera).
'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on TH-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered TH-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish.
Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 8 years next march) and Lucy (1 year this october),a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

This performance was from the Wacken 2013 rock & metal annual festival in the small German village of Wacken (the venue takes place in a cattle pasture, hence the flaming bull's head symbol). Nighwish was the headliner band that year and closed out the festival in front of a crowd of over 82,000. Other bands that performed that year were Rammstein, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Anthrax, and many others

Hello Carl (The REAL Disco Doc), welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling bij Nightwish and their incredeble talented 3rd female vocalist Floor Jansen. This song was #13/15 at Wacken Open Air Festival 2013, spectators/audience +82k. Wacken is a small town in the northern part of Germany. The burning bull's head is the official WOA festival logo.
So you just heard Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen). Although the band is Finnish, their 3rd singer is not, she is Dutch, lives with her husband Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of the band Sabaton and their two daughters in Sweden. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer.
Nightwish, After Forever and ReVamp worked under the same Nuclear Blast record label. Tuomas and Floor know each other since August 20th, 2002 when Nightwish played in a sold-out and swelteringly hot “Hof Ter Lo” in Antwerp with After Forever and Charon as support act.

I am pleased to welcome you to the wonderful world of Nightwish from the UK Oldies Division of Nightwish Army (East Anglian branch). As you delve deeper into their music (as I hope you will) you will find many diverse songs. Symphonic metal is the official genre, but you will find songs ranging from metal to ballads and even a jazz track. I have subscribed to your channel in the hope that you'll keep on watching and listening to Nightwish, especially their live recordings. I saw them live at Wembley in November 2022 and it was the most amazing unforgettable experience. To hear more from them and to get some more info on the band, I suggest you look at Gabriel's post and follow his list or pick and mix from it. I have followed Nightwish for some time now and the compositions and musicianship never fail to please. Looking forward to your next reaction.

Un coucou de l'armée NIGHTWISH de France, avec un peu de retard, très bonne réaction et analyse à l'écoute du plus grand groupe du monde pour ma part. Mon ami vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. Je vous souhaite de bons floorgasmes et continuez vos réactions nous serons toujours derrière vous pour vous soutenir pour notre groupe...... Encore plus d'écoutes s'il vous plait...... Merci. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Vous venez d'écouter la 13ème chanson du set ( un incontournable ), ensuite faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse et en même temps de faire la connaissance de la voix de Marko, ou écoutez une petite histoire, un bon rock avec un refrain qui reste longtemps en tête avec Storytime ou alors du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le mélange magnifique des voix de Floor avec Marko ( merveilleuse harmonie ) ou encore plus lourd avec Romanticide ..... Et je pense que notre ami Gabriel Bardac devait arriver sous peu, ou être déjà passé ( Un grand MERCI à Gabriel d'avoir repris le flambeau de notre regrettée Anne ) , allez sur son mur, cliquez son nom et allez sur communauté, vous pourrez suivre sa liste en toute confiance avec les meilleurs mixages à la bonne vitesse et avec le meilleur audio mais ce n'est pas une obligation, juste un sage conseil pour entendre une petite partie du meilleur du groupe. Continuez les filets du groupe sont tendus et il vous sera très difficile de vous en sortir, plus de NIGHTWISH s'il vous plait et bienvenu à vous...... There are no live renditions of the new album yet, unfortunately, so a music video would have to do. Furtheron she changes her voice in a versital way many times according to the story. Floor reacted on her own singing of GLS on her own channel. Succes!

Wacken Open Air is one of the biggest and oldest metal festivals in the world, with 85,000 visitors. Nightwish was the headliner that day.
Your AI makes me grin devilishly and meanly because it left out the second singer Anette Olzon. Anette was a pop singer and therefore doesn't fit in with the other two. She's right about the apples and oranges. Amy Lee has a classical education like Floor, but that's all. In symphonic metal you'll hear more Amy Lees and nobody has her as a role model.
Floor's outfits are based on her ideas, implemented by designers.

I'm already fed up with how everyone who listens to Nightwish for the very first time immediately compares them to Evanescence.
This band has nothing to do with them and Amy Lee can only hold the queen's robe train from a respectful distance behind the queen Floor, so that the train does not get dirty from the dust on the ground. PERIOD🤢
