Traditionally, this type of connection (snaphook-to-carabiner) has not been allowed, because of concerns with proper loading of connectors and unintentional disengagement. The latest edition of ANSI Z359.12-2019 has requirements for connectors that ensures a 2:1 safety factor in almost all possible loading scenarios. Additionally, the standard has revised the outright ban of these type of connections, stating in Section 7.1 that “snaphooks and carabiners shall not be connected to each other unless specifically designed for such connections.” The limited application as an overhead anchorage connector only and design of the strut anchor is intentional such that the connection of the personal fall arrest system (PFAS) to the Strut Anchor’s carabiner is intentional.
