Magma can be classified into two.
1. Felsic = High silica content. And as silica is viscous It does not spread too much.
2. Mafic= Less silica contant, it is less viscous and thereby spread over large area. Ex- Deccan

Sir felsic nd mafic can be defined on the basis of silica percent in them
Mafic= magnneseum+ iron+( silica 45%)
Felsic = iron + silica (65%)
