Watch us on Motoring TV on TSN! I have teamed up with Ontaerial to bring you the best visuals in the industry. Our reviews are from an enthusiast perspective (Jakub), as well as someone who really doesn't know much about cars but likes them (Yuri). You won't find details about compression ratios here, instead you'll have real world opinions on what it's like to drive and own these cars.
We go for a drive in this 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The best 'truck' in its class? - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
I come from a Canadian family of truck guys & we've owned at least 20 trucks between us in the last 25 years & as much as I mocked my father for buying a Ridgeline it is the best vehicle I've ever driven in snow & it rides & handles really well at high speeds.
Great job being open minded!
What made your dad choose a Ridgeline?
Snake Doctor He wasn’t towing as much as he used to. He had a first generation Tundra that he loved & put massive km’s on & then a new F-150 which started having all kinds of issues after four years so he went full on weirdo & bought a Honda. I secretly love driving it. It’s like the Warthog in Halo & my wife will actually drive it. I borrow it for our ski trips up to Whistler.
This is exactly why I'm thinking of a Ridgeline, just don't need the capabilities of my full size truck anymore.
Loopsrainforest you high bro
this is honestly perfect for 95% of truck drivers i see on the road .
every day while driving through traffic daily up here in Alaska i mostly see only one person in a full size trucks and SUVs not doing any hauling or anything just using it as an a to b vehicle
+siamiam that's exactly it! Fully agree
+TheStraightPipes Does other trucks do that in everyday driving?
+Richard Joash Tan this is the most comfortable truck ever
hey theres nothing wrong with a rugged good looking truck than a disgfraceful prius driver swerving in the road
You are just swallowing in the gay Honda kool aid. Its really a piece of shit Accord Ute. NOT A TRUCK!!!
I want this truck as a volunteer firefighter the trunk in the bed would be super helpful in storing my gear after a fire , because putting Smokey smelling gear in my Subaru is giving me a headache , making my car smell and it's getting old really quick
Basically, it's a truck for normal people.
Fantastically made truck. Now once they give it a major facelift you'll see a ton more on the road. No one wants to drop 50k on something that looks like a mini van.
I think it looks like the Pilot.
I like all the features on the Black Edition... but the truck is this so ugly looking. It kind of reminds me of the old school El Camino.
it's based on the Pilot, I believe.
coming to say u were right lmao
Got a 2019 Hondaline Ridgeline Black Ed. as my first vehicle. All I can say is the driving is superb. I would love to have this for the next 15 years.
I saw this and a raptor at the same house
That shirt is dope. 5 stars
+dtraill627 noooo
dtraill627 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I can tell that jakub does these comments
It's both of us, but I'm sure you can tell who did this one 😂
Ridgeline is so underrated IMHO, if you ain't going hardcore off roading, or daily towing, this is as good as a daily truck you can get in terms of handling, ride quality, size and refinement
Happy Ridgeline owner here. My first truck. More comfortable and quiet than most SUV's, as in luxury level of comfort and quietness. I would even say that it's as comfortable as the RX.
+Alex perfect first truck. Plenty of luxury and comfort, but I think The RX is well ahead of the Ridgeline
Was only referring to comfort and quietness. Fit and finish is of course a different story. I used to have a lexus and they would always give me an RX for a loaner when I get my ES serviced (also owned an IS). It's quiet, but not as quiet as the Ridgeline. The Ridgeline has triple sealed doors and acoustic windshield (RTL-T up). RX has an interior noise level of 67db while the Ridgeline has 64db. The Ridgeline is more quiet.
+Alex oh fair enough. Yeah the Ridgeline was ridiculously quiet inside I'll definitely agree with you there
@@chonaV SUV's and hatch backs are louder than sedans and trucks inside. I am torn if I should get a 2019 Avalon XLE or 2019 RTL-T in a few years. I'd like to compare decibel levels between the two. The avalon has acoustic front side glass and (ANC) active noise cancellation, should be interesting which is quieter and smoother on the highway.
How many miles did you put in it? How has it hold up?
Three years later and you guys are absolutely killing it in the game put here!!! 987k subs!!!! We've watched you guys grow and develop a mastery of your content and just straight up bring the business every single video!!! Never stop guys!!! Never ever stop!!!! Cheers!!!
The dude asks "What does v-tec do?"
It kicks in yo!
88yellowjacket kick yo ass
88yellowjacket it makes you wonder why Honda doesn’t use steplessly variable lift so that you have more torque before vtec kicks in.
88yellowjacket but it’s not fast I’ve race two of the new and old Honda ridge line in my tundra it ain’t even fast
@@dennistv598 Hahahahahahaha! The dude you raced must have not been into it. This truck has a 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. I've spanked a few hemis in mine, and embarrassed a lot of cowboy trucks from the light, to I wont tell you how fast! Turn off the traction control, and stomp it. It will go, and that v-tec howls the whole way!
Kenneth Grutter idk about fast but it’s slow
this is honestly the best car review duo. Great work guys. Funny, informative enough. Love it. New subscriber...
+Andrew Gilbertson sweet thanks man
Best truck for 90% of the pick up truck drivers on the road who only need a large bed for home projects and not towing. Seriously why would you spend nearly 100 grand on a diesel pickup that can tow over a 10,000 pound load and yet only use it as a daily driver 99% of its life???
Darksyne $100k pickup truck?
You can get an ecoboost f150 for the same price as a ridgeline if you are patient. It gets the same mpg, has more capacity, and will have a real low range.
@@KTMcaptain ecoboost can't tow like a diesel
Ethan Lundeen towing with both a 3.5 gen II eb 10spd and a hooped up Cummins 12v with s300 and nv4500 (peak torque around 2100rpm), I can say they have very similar towing characteristics.
Difference being the eb can rev out to 5k rpm while the Cummins requires more fuel and air to make power at 26-2800 rpm with 4K rpm governor springs.
But I wasn’t talking about diesels in the above comment, and the eb makes more torque than the half ton diesels regardless.
Go home kid.
@@KTMcaptain even then still cant tow like a diesel the way a diesel engine outputs torque is better for towing and it burns more efficiently as long as the exhaust isn't being recalculated to the air intake but anyways eb is good for what it is shit compared to others
Ethan Lundeen lol, you can’t feel “fuel efficiency” while towing. Perhaps it might be cheaper, Diesel is more expensive and def fluid required plus gdi engines have gotten more efficient, but that’s an idiotic thing to say.
Torque is torque. While the 3.5eb peaks torque near 3000rpm, it still generates a lot at the low 2000rpm and regularly runs under 2000rpm. Very comparable to the half ton diesels, and not far off the big boy diesel trucks.
Stop eating them paint chips son. Get a life. Go meet a girl, or dude if that’s what you’re into. Maybe then you’d understand the world.
Ridgeland is awesone! Honda needs to do a redesign on the exterior and it will be golden. Each vehicle needs to be its own!
Have to admit that this is the "truck" most people need. It's a comfy grocery getter. Most of the bigger trucks from the big 3, are overkill and never get used for any kind of heavy duty use.
Really glad I found your channel. You are easily the most entertaining reviewers on TH-cam, but most importantly you highlight stuff that really matters. Great job!
How do you only have 5,500 subscribers? Holy smokes this channel is great
+TheSchumaker thanks! Help us get more subs share the videos so we can keep making them better and crazier
I will always upvote crazy.
+Phil W right on
Wow! A lot has changed in a year.
eikonise right about to say that
Watching some of your older videos that I may have missed. It's nice to see your excitement over the raptor and now having one, Jakub!
Hahahah I forget how many videos I brought up the Raptor
This is exactly what I want from car review channels! And I’ve been considering this truck(?) for a while so thank you. Subscribed
Found this channel while looking for reviews for the 2017 Honda Ridgeline, just want to say thank you because I went to order one the next day after watching this video. You guys were spot on about everything! It's the perfect mid-size truck for light duty. Awesome channel and keep up the good work!
Awesome!

After watching a few of y'all's videos I knew I had to subscribe. Thanks guys 👍🏼
+Collins awesome
great review. i always thought a honda truck would be weird but this is awesome
+PhreaKzZ97 it is both weird and awesome
Ffs I'm researching because I'm wanting to buy an older Ridgeline, and man does this make me really want a new one. ESPECIALLY because of the in bed sound system!! One of my reasons for wanting a truck is for taking my wife and daughter to the drive in! So. Freaking. Cool!!!
know this is old, do yourself a favor go with a new one. Bought a 2009 and it's alright but the tailgate breaking on me was meh. Only goes up and down now no side to side. They also need to change the back window on these, if you park the truck and turn it off with the back window open, the truck screams at you.
Amazing review as always, but please do a review of the 2017 Honda Civic hatchback sport touring !! Thank you
+Christian servin thanks we'll try to get one
old school TheStraightPipes Love it
Awesome show, but your subtitle said city slicker truck, but I live in Northern Ontario and own 2009 and 2017 Ridgeline and 2016 Civic EX-T and no issues. We go to bush trails for fishing and hunting trails and no issues.
Yeah they shouldn't call it a city slicker truck, mainly because it's not a truck
Perfect truck for people who need the practicality of a truck, but the comfort & handling of a car. Hopefully at the next facelift, the Ridgeline will get the Passport front end instead of the Pilot front end.
Love your channel. I got rid of my Ram 1500 to get a 2017 ridgeline. Didn’t tow every day. Wanted better mileage and still wanted truck functionality. Unfortunately that legendary Honda build quality doesn’t exist anymore. Major electric gremlins from under 5000km. Finally the dealer bought it back after just over a year of trying to fix it unsuccessfully. Got a 2018 Ridgeline. Same exact problems at 1000km! They bought it back again. Now I’m back in a Ram with zero tech but it doesn’t leave me stranded. I love Honda and I loved the Ridgeline but I need a lot more from a 42,000$ truck.
Check the forums. Not an isolated problem with the new generation
I always enjoy your guyses videos! My only pet peeve with the Ridgeline is that if you had a Bed full of heavy supplies such as wood or bricks or anything and you got a flat tire you're kind of screwed because of the spare tire location. Keep up the great videos
+joshua land thanks
If the bed is full of bricks that tiny spare isn't rated for that much weight anyway.
3:00 too smart 👌💯
Great review. I think this “truck” has its own segment. They need to change the front so it doesn’t look so much like a Pilot.
My parents have a ridgeline and I drive it pretty much everyday for fun. Let me just say it's pretty much the best handling truck I've ever driven. That front wheel drive is amazing at high speed turns.
I never knew I wanted a truck with speakers in the bed, but it turns out I really do.
+Jesse Carmichael exactly. Everyone needs it
When you want everybody in traffic to listen to Papa Roach
CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES, THIS IS MY LAST RESORT
Suffocation, no breathing....
+Beach5and Hahahhahahahahaha wow that brings back memories
+Jesse Carmichael Hahahah
About the rear doors not opening enough. There’s a fix for it that a guy at work did to his. He bought front door checkers and installed them on the rear. Doors now open to around 90 degrees with no interference.
This truck is awesome. Love it
Great review. Keep up the good work you guys!
+aag318504 thanks!
Actually looks pretty dope !
Another great review.
4:05 . Bring back the OG timmies lids 😂
I don’t think it’s fair to call the seam between the bed “fake”. It’s two separate panels with some rubber between. It’s much easier to manufacture and repair that way rather than use one giant singular piece for cabin+bed. A Honda rep discussed this when someone pointed out the seam at a press event. I think people are just looking for reasons to criticize the vehicle. I bring this up because fake pieces on cars (like the Civic‘s vents) actually really annoy me so I don’t want to falsely accuse the Ridgeline! Great review
The bed trunk sold me.
Is this a Canadian version ? I was trying to figure out what button you pressed to fold in the mirrors.
Cool truck! Cool video's, cool guys, cool shirt!
You guys are best friends or what?
Great channel...subbed.
Hey Yuri & Jakub, when you guys were talking about lane keeping assistance feature, you were on the ending lane & your video switched to something else. just out of curiosity, not just this vehicle but in general about the lane keeping assistance feature, what happens in that situation? your lane is disappearing & left& right side lane is meeting together. how does your car decide react to that? just give up? LOL
StraightPipes, can you guys take a Ridgeline to your friend's ranch and see what it can do on some trails?! I'm so curious how far it would make it up that hill.
I was going to get this but then the 2019 ranger came out. I meer to check that out first
These trucks have always had a cult following. It will never sell in great numbers but can’t be beat for is reliability. Resale is excellent as well. Do you guys have other jobs? Is this full time?
I'd like to see you guys do an updated/longer review of this. It's had a refresh. it's time :)
edited: spelling
It’s a cruck , the black addition is cool
Yuri cracks me up! He doesn't even realize he's funny half the time.
My girlfriend has the eco button on her Honda CRZ, you can make so many fictitious trees lol
Great review, fun as always 👍🏻
+NEVERL8 INAV8 oh man there's no cool graphics for the eco mode on the Ridgeline. Only the driving modes have cool graphics
As a former owner I'd say that they are a mixed bag. My biggest issue is the fuel economy. I could live with the reduced capabilities if it was getting around 30 mpg, the best I ever got was 21.5 and on a normal day it was 16 to 18. At that point you might as well get the full sized truck.
I love how hilarious your reviews are
+hypno159753 sweet thanks
The only problem I had with this one is only one choice of bed length and the front looks like a pilot, they could have made the front square ish looking like the old gen
I've never seen one of these new Ridgelines on the road
Nice Shirt!
what about the things the matter in a truck like tow capability and bed storage, seems to me like its only a half a bed with the trunk and spare there.
Please do an Amarok video
I feel like the ridge line is a great truck but people won’t buy it because of the looks
hey where are the power mirrors, had no idea my truck had that feature lol
City slickers literally drive like the biggest nicest trucks, like a raptor or a f150 platinum
I own a black edition and will never buy a conventional pickup again. These are awesome
Do you blast the bed speakers in traffic?
So what button did you push to fold in the mirrors?!?
since the truck models I wanted to get after graduating kinda sided against my breathing habits with trump, looking at the F150 and Honda Ridgeline now, Seems like Honda Ridgeline might be perfect to tide me over until Teslas CyberTruck is done in 2023 :D
I honesty hate both gens of the Ridgeline - and consider it the Japanese version of the Lincoln Blackwood/Mark LT. 😖
But I did want to watch this video just b’c it’s you guys! 🔥
Adorable couple
You should test a 2011 gmc acadia Denali
Yuri and your selection of clothes
When does the 2020 revised version come out?
Thats a nice looking SUV
Every time I see these in the rear view mirror, I keep thinking they are Honda Pilots lmao. Appearance wise, they should have built upon the old, muscular front end. Would be a badass looking "city slicker/lowrider" truck.
Scott Vaj 😂😂😂
These guys are Great
1. Perfectly adequate for most truck buyers who want a smaller truck.
2. Does NOT look more like a truck than before.
3. Still homely as hell. For $40K you'd like to like what your vehicle looks like.
I fully agree. Great concept except it's a truck that looks more like a minivan (sans bed)
Ridgeline will hold 62% of Its book value after 3yrs, and that P.O.S. Chevy will drop in value " Like a rock" the minute you drive it of the lot!!
Actually the Colorado won the class for resale. And the full sizers do just fine.
You can own a new full size Chevy or GMC and get back over 75% of what you paid after 3 years. I bought a Honda with that same mentality that you have and it tanked in value, don't do it. 😂😂
Actually the Tacoma owns the class for resale (but the GM midsize twins do very well too.)
Tacoma USED to, still a great truck, but not as good as a Colorado over all or resale value. I work in Sales, I've sold pre-owned Colorados for as high as $38,500.
TheACCHRM or as high as you
What you smoking bro
Yuri's complaints are spot on. I love the truck but the infotainment needs work
I do believe I just found the first "small coffee test" video.
0:15 That's what people say to me 🤣
2nd best truck ever
This video wins based on the VTECH impression.
omg going in the little hill on the side of the road was the best
Just hit the audio button and that’ll take you to your music screen.... only one button!!!
Awesome 👍
"I don't give a shit" I've watched this video months ago and now I'm thinking about buying one. Would you go with a Ridgeline or a TRD Sport?
Ridgeline if you mostly drive on roads and don't do too much offroading, otherwise trd
Test drive both. The seating position and comfort will make it obvious.
2:13 is the best part lol
If it was giving to me or I got a good deal I’d drive it... never would buy for msrp
USDM ones dont have power mirrors or rear heated seats :(
That interior puts any ford to shame. This is a great family truck the back seats are really nice
Only sold as a two wheel drive in the states .. have owned my 2019 for 6 months and love it
Honda. Pretty Good.
Why would anyone say this "isn't a truck"? It's literally a truck.
Ya but it’s not body on frame
A T-Ford is a car and had body on frame, my 2019 car is not body on frame!?!!😇
The definition of a Truck is .. a vehicle with a closed cab and open bed = pickup truck....has nothing at all to do with body on frame ...that is just what peeps that purchased body on frame trucks claim defines a Truck....total BS...Ridgeline is a great Truck.
@@steveo4141 That's what I thought. Definitely makes more sense. Thank you
@@steveo4141 The best
Shirt is nice
1:11 THANK YOU
Same
wish this was sold in Australia :(
rod rod no you dont
Yes Christian, he does.
If Honda brought it to Oz, I'd buy one.
A proper utility vehicle, I don't need a truck to prove my manhood, I have fathered 4 children and ride motorcycles.
Just get off my lawn, boy and things wii be fine.
That Shirt Doe! lol
+LabMediaCompany don't encourage him, he doesn't need it
LabMediaCompany great shirt
LabMediaCompany That shirt is everything. And I live in Hawaii.
Great, next Honda will make something like the ranchero and the el Camino.
Can only hope. Need a 6.5 ft bed. I'll buy one used at 100k miles.
I kinda prefer the look of the old one with the buttresses.
but hey, it's a truck that drives like a car.
I’m here after Seth moved a bunch of mulch
They made it look more like a truck?? They went backwards from The older models
