You may read description, Motul suggest an oil for Vespa 10w30.

Hello, I own a 2002 LML Vespa Select II which is India bound but for sure I know it was manufactured by LML & Piaggio, Almost identical to yours by mechanical factors. I was hoping to restore it but i no longer have the owner's manual, hence a little lost from where to start and what steps are necessary. Could use some help.

How often should you change the gearbox oil
According to Piaggio each year or 8000km/5000ml which ever come first.
You may do a little longer (18 month or 12000km/8000ml)

sir do u know any additives which helps in cleaning scooters gearbox like for example - we engine flush to clean engine
A cheap way to do it is to mix some kerosene with gearbox oil (50ml of kerosene and 200ml of gearbox oil ) Run idle few minutes then flush.
Before refill with the oil put 50ml of gearbox oil, run idle 1 minutes to clean the kerosene.
Then make a standard refill of about 250ml of gearbox oil

Open and see if you have worn drum brake and check also if any object, like broken springs or similar, are out of order.
This is the first things i will check. May be also worn and not symmetric brum on the wheel side.

Vespa mechanic here. First, while SAE 30w NON DETERGENT oil will work in the gearbox, it is not a good idea to use it in warm weather. It tends to lose its viscosity when really hot. Piaggio recommends SAE 75w85 GL4 (NOT GL-5) gear oil. 75w90 works fine too, as long as it is GL-4.
DO NOT use a homemade gasket on the drain plug. That plug is not supposed to use a gasket. It uses a compressible washer. The fill plug uses the same washer. They are very inexpensive. buy a couple dozen of them, and you will never have to worry about it again. Before removing both the drain plug and fill plug, clean off the plug and area around the plug thoroughly. I use spray brake cleaner. I also clean off both plugs after removing them. You don't want dirt in the transmission.
You can use any number of ways to get the new oil in. A syringe works, a tiny funnel, the spout on a gear oil bottle, whatever fits in the small hole. You DO NOT need to measure it. You are supposed to fill it up till it is completely full. The way you did it, you didn't have enough oil to start with, and some of that ran down the side of the case.

For the gaskets I was missing the right size and I did it just to fix it temporary, and I showed just to show how to do it in case of emergency.

About the different from synthetic and mineral oil i agree with You but some older Vespa with still some original equipment may experience a shorter life in clutch and some gaskets are in cork and the glue may be deteriorated by the detergent power of the oil (the oil "glass" of the oil tank ha a cork o-ring).
As the fill up Your still right in the Italian video I specified, in English I forgot.

What oil is good for gearbox
Gearbox oil according to Motul: amzn.to/3gorMYg, Piaggio say use mineral oil SAE30 but is too old and not easy to find anymore. You may use any motorbike oil 10W30. Don't use car oil since this oil is in contact also with the clutch.

In Europe we have only 95 and up to 100 octane gasoline, No problem. If Your Vespa is really old may be should be tuned for unleaded fuel.
Lower than 95/92 should be adjusted AFR and may be also the timing

You should use mineral gearbox oil SAE30 or bike oil. Motul 5100 10w30 is suitable according to Motul website.

95 Gasoline is very good for the Vespa, Lower octane level may be dangerous if Your Vespa is tuned. 2 stroke oil is mandatory at 2% of gasoline.

a Good oil is recommended but Vespa has a very strong engine so don't worry to much.

You may use motor oil for motorcycles since in the motorcycles the oil lubricate also the gearbox and the clutch. Don't use 2 stroke oil or cars oil

250ml is not engine but gearbox oil. You may use motorbike oil possible old SAE30 normal engin oil (for cars) oil will wear the clutch

250ml is only gearbox oil, not engine. Engine oil is the 2%oil mix on gasoline

Gearbox OIL, and Piaggio say use SAE30 mineral oil. Synthetic oil is good, many people use it (also me), but could damage some clutch.
For Bajaj super how much oil needs we need to put

The Vespa must be level, in the centerstand is ok, but not in a slope road.

@@vespavespi I don't have experience on Polini or other powerful clutch on Vespa.
I can tell You that in Italy Polini, Malossi, Pinasco, are considered best product, also BGM, S.I.P., Crimaz do good clutch. With Polini and Malossi You never go wrong, especially Malossi the have a special office in wihc they develope and test product by their self.
You may upgrade oil with bike motor Sintetic 10W40. Never use car oil.

LML raccomand use oil 10W40.
Use oil for bike, the oil for the car is much different due to the clutch.

Oil should be also 250ml, anyway fill untill start to leak from the filler cap 😉
The following link is a video. It's in Italian, Show how to replace the o ring for the Kickstarter. If You already repleaced once try another with a a different size. He says 2,48/ 2,5 mm depth (don't say the diameter).

In Italy most of people (sometimes I do also) use synthetic oil. So use what You prefer 😉

@@bisugzzz I used the equivalent of this: www.motul.com/gb/en/products/gear-300-75w90 (mine is older and anymore avalible). This have a lot of apllication car, Bike etc etc
If You have to buy only for Vespa I Suggest You this: www.motul.com/gb/en/products/transoil-expert-10w40, Check description on the link motul say it work up to SAE90.
