What is 'Rasterizing' in Affinity Photo?

  • Rasterizing is conversion to pixels and appears in two places in Affinity Photo, where it can be very useful. Here's all about it.
Note: From version 1.7 onwards, Rasterize is replaced by Rasterize and Rasterize and Trim. 'Rasterize and Trim' acts like 'Rasterize' in versions 1.6 and below, cutting away non-visible image components. 'Rasterize' changes so it 'squares up' the image, so such as the Perspective Tool appears vertical/horizontal rather than tilted. Overall, though, Rasterizing is still effectively a kind of 'flatten layer' function.
A video has been added to describe this change. You can find it here:

HI, Thanks for the Video How do you knock out black in an Image then rasterize for printing ?

To make Black transparent, you can use the cogwheel 'Blend Options', then pull down the left node and add another to pull up everything but the far left. Try both graphs if in doubt. You might want to rasterise the whole image first, for example with Document/Flatten.

The title is, "What is 'Rasterizing' in Affinity Photo?" Why are you going off onto other topics??? For you, it's grand. For those of us who came here to learn how to 'rasterize in AP, IT'S A VERY UNWANTED SET OF DISTRACTIONS, AND THEREFORE CONFUSING.

Rasterising is just an other word for pixellising. I find Affinity's vocabulary a bit strange sometimes.

That's ok Ernst. I can see that while many like it, some do not. I'll review it to see if I can learn how to improve what I do. (Google translation: Das ist in Ordnung, Ernst. Ich kann das sehen, während viele es mögen, manche nicht. Ich werde es überprüfen, um zu sehen, wie ich meine Arbeit verbessern kann.)
