Tried this with cat's eye polish and blooming gel and got a similar effect, but still went for the Social Claws pigments, which look so much brighter! Thank you for this demo!
Beautiful I almost bought these last time I was on social claws website but then I told myself off and said no Helen you have about 60 pigments you can't justify buying any more. But now now I NEED this pigment. Beautiful design. Xxx
Helen Langford you can’t have too many pigments, you always can use them up in so many areas of crafts and arts, mix them in all kinds of paints, varnishes, polishes.Create own gels, acrylics.Use them as embossing powders, even use them instead of stamping polish 😉 Girl, pigments are on top of the game if you start to play around with them as crazy 😜

Reminds me of a butterfly 🦋 or snake / lizard vibe absolutely stunning 🤩 could I use just the colour shift duo chrome mine is colour shift but not magnetic Would it still work I’m now planning my next set of extensions 💅 and would absolutely love this on my nails blessings love and peace ❤
Oh really beautiful! I love this. Question begs for myself to go for gellish or gel or just both for whenever.😂 Reminds me of an exotic winged butterfly or moth.
I love this look!!! One question, I noticed you used gelish topcoat to mix with the pigments and then Akzentz to drop it into...would you recommend using 2 different topcoats for this or is there a reason why you do it this way??? Thank you :)
I liked the way the mixed pigment (with Gelish) spread in the Akzentz...I experimented dropping into the Luxa top which is slightly thicker than Akzentz but I didn't like how slowly the pigment spread...just a personal preference. I've not has issues 2 different tops...both cure in 30 sec in an LED. You may need to experiment with your own topcoats to see how they flow.
These are interference pigments meaning the way light refracts off the particles depends on what colors you will see. Try viewing under different lighting.
Hello. Lovely work. Thanks for sharing. I noticed you used gelish top to mix the pigment and the akzents(spelling?)top as the base of the design. Is that correct? Clearly the 2 topcoats worked well in the same space.....Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Regards. Leah
Ten Little Canvases Thanks so much for your reply. Can you please tell me which top coat had the THINNER viscosity out of the 2 topcoats in this video : Gelish or Akzentz? Grateful. Leah👍👍👍
I just got mine today. I definitely will have to play some to get it right. My Bliss is very dark teal in the jar. Yours looks quite purple where mine is definitely teal and it didn't show up much on the black nail. Any thoughts?
Keep in mind these are 'interference' duo chrome powders, meaning that the way your light source hits it will affect what colors you'll see...try changing light conditions...for instance, under direct sunlight or LED light the pigment is quite sparkly and tends to show the magenta and purple shift....under indirect LED or diffused LED like in my photos and videos (I film and photograph in a light tent to reduce glare), that's when it shifts all the colors, teal, purple, magenta, bronze, gold, green.
Regular pigments as in not multi-chrome magnetic? The thinner the clear gel you place your pigment dots into the better, you'll get a better spread...consider using a 'blooming gel', Mia Secret is a fave of mine. Don't mix pigment too thick, this will inhibit spreading and it can cause wrinkling after curing.
I'm working on re-creating that first design as I type this.... Harder than it looks! I think I had too much pigment and I didn't get spread, it looked more like Hershey's kisses. Going thinner and thinner and I am finally getting a good spread. One nice thing about making mistakes - if you don't like the design on the popstick, just wipe with alcohol and try again. :-)
@Saundra - I finally did get some spread but I never gained any sense of control over the shape of the (for lack of a better term) droplets. I tried different size dotting tools and detail brushes, and I made adjustments to the speed which I put down the droplets - but I never was able to get those different shapes. I got decent spread but by that time the mixture was so thin there was very little color saturation and I only got round blobs. I spent several hours trying, ran through 3 dozen pop sticks but I was never able to get anything that looked close. The droplets never took on any shape no matter how I tried to drag them into a teardrop or use the dry vs. wet edge of the topcoat to keep them corralled into square-ish blocks. I even tried using different top coats on the nail (tried 4 or 5) from the one I used to create my pigment droplets. Bottom line - when I had strong enough pigmentation in the mix, it kept a "Hershey's Kiss" shape and always had a tiny air bubble at the top where I pulled the dotting tool or detail brush away and never achieved any shape but round and zero spread. By the time I was thinned up enough to get spread, I was never able to control the drops and keep them from combining, I did not have good color saturation. I'm calling this one of my rare failed experiments.
I had good success recreating this when I used the exact same products and ratios Kim uses. If you don't have the exact same products, you get a different effect. I tried using Madam Glam No Wipe Top Coat and it tends to spread the dots much slower. Still beautiful, but different. I did Kim's ratio of top coat to pigment and it worked! If you don't have the exact products, keep in mind that Kim is mixing the pigment with a TC with an inhibition layer and dropping that into a TC without an inhibition layer. Just some observations that I have found helpful in gaining success! I hope you have had some success, because this is so beautiful in person!
Could you get that same spreading out (it kinda reminds me of when you drop regular polish in water for marbleing) effect with other pigment mixtures like say with the pearlex or the cnd ones or is that just for those specific magnetic ones?
Yes, other pigments should work. The amount of spread will depend on: 1. how thick you mix your pigment and 2. what wet layer you place the pigment mix in, like a clear top coat or gel color coat. You may have to experiment to get your best combination for the best spread. Hope that makes sense 😆.
That is INCREDIBLE! Looks like a magical fairy wing.
Thank you!
