+gsppuffer This is a tip I wish I would have remembered to add. I can see offsets in my head, but I would have liked to have added this bit of info. Hopefully it will get to the top comments for others to see.
Your not lying I watched parts 1& 2 and wouldn't even pause to pee, best part is I didn't have a major need to watch but his presentation was top notch
It's always a pleasure to watch an expert at work, but to have them explain each step so thoroughly and simply is priceless, thank you I'm now going to buy a tube bender and find some projects!!
Really nice to get information from a real pro taught in laymen's terms with a vocabulary that your mom or daughter could listen to. Great videos man - bravo.
I think I have learned more in the last two videos on bending than I have in my lifetime. Excellent teaching! Subscribed, and will be binge watching your videos. Awesome!!
I know this series of "beginner" videos are 6 years old now but I have been watching them preparing for my first big project and man what a great help they were. My first bend after making all of my cheaters was a rectangular bumper. Made the 4 bends and the ends lined up perfectly. I know its nothing but made me feel confident going into the more complicated bends I was going to do. Thanks!
I don’t do a ton of tube bending, maybe once a year or so. So every time I have a project, I come back to these videos. They’re so helpful, clear, and articulate. Been watching your videos for a number of years and all I can say is that I really appreciate how much you’ve helped me and so many others because I’m not sure I’d know where to start without your teachings.
32 year heavy duty mechanic/welder/fabricator and builder of heavy duty specialty trucks and heavy duty wreckers. But I had decided to start building fun projects of My own using tube so I checked this out. And thank God I did. I was ready to buy a "PIPE" bender which they called a "tube bender" but Your knowledge just saved Me a headache and disappointment. I have subscribed and look forward to learning a lot.
I enjoy your videos. I like the fact you do not talk down at people instead you actually want to help people learn. I don’t really need any bending done I just enjoy watching
Your videos are great. 6 years ago I watched your first video and bought one of these benders. That tube bender is a game changer in my opinion. Thanks for all the videos that followed your first one.
Not sure I'm gonna do my own cage yet but definatly gonna get the bender and start working with it. It's awesome you make videos like this to help people
Great video series on bending, definitely wish I had watched this before getting into bending! learned a few new tricks, and some things I hadn't thought of, thank you.
Bro I was just looking for a way to put a little bend in my exhaust so my Flowmaster super 10 didn't rattle the chassis. But I stumbled across ur 2 bending 101 vids, I have to say first of all the way you pass along your knowledge without excessive jabber if phenomenal. Secondly after I've watched just these two videos I feel as though I have attended at least one semester of classes in tube bending 101.!! Keep on doing what you LOVE, and it won't ever be considered WORK!!! KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!! THANKS FOR YOUR HOUR OF POWER! LOL!
In two hours on your channel I learn more than in a year education in germany. It is all explained very well and now I also know how I can use my tube bender optimally. Thank you very much for your video work. The best i ever saw.
I worked at a UTV shop for a few years bending tube programs that bendtech spat out, but it always bothered me that i didn't know how to do it by hand. This was very satisfying to watch.
This is possibly the most helpful video I have ever watched.. I have always wanted to be able to build a roll cage and other off road necessities but bending and notching tubes I couldn't wrap my head around and now I feel like I could give it a shot Thank you!
Quick knowledge and a lot of practice will get you going. If you want to know how to build a roll cage I have a 3 hour video that details all of it. Let me know how it works out!
Very good tutorial! I am beginning to understand this process. A bit of complexity , but your tutorial breaks it down quite nicely. Now to go practice bending to lock in these principles.
just wanted to say that your tube bender series on basics was awsome! keep up the great work and your commentary is very easy to follow.. best video I have seen yet! thank you!
great little series on bending tubing. extremely informative. gives me confidence to get out start bending.....thanks for taking the time to post this.
Thank you for taking the time to post your great videos. Very well done and informative. I am a total newb when it comes to bending tubing. I have decent fab skills. After watching 3 of your videos (parts 1,2 and 3) which I not only enjoyed but also learned from I feel I can tackle some tube fenders for my Jeep. Now I'm off to shop for a JD bender :) Thanks again.
I have a 19 jlu rubicon . Setting on tons and 40s , bead lock wheels . I bought a high dollar hydraulic or electric tube bender . I am building an exo cage for it . I want to be able to roll over without body damage . I wish i was closer i would pay for you to build my cage and i would help also . I have 400’ of 1-3/4” DOM .120 wall tube I’m using . I have 200 ft of 1” dom .120 . I am a welder/ master plumber and own a successful plumbing company . I actually broke 2 cheaper tubing benders and used pieces from both to make 1 decent one . I was still not happy with it so i ordered a new bigger and better one . I enjoy watching your vids and you are super talented teacher . I am going to wing it , i know i will waste a ton of tube but I’m going to learn . I subscribed!
This bending series is really helpful! I bend a lot of electrical conduit. While the principles are similar, I'm finding that your methods can be more accurate when making complex bends, compared to "standard" trade-school methods. Thanks for the help!
Excellent work and with music out side of the teaching experience which I prefer. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟for communication, skill, ability, to walk the beginner threw the whole treatise.
Beautiful video set and I will be checking out more videos. However I'm a plumber and in running pipe you can't roll a 45 on a 45 and still come out with a 45 in both directions. We use a 60 bend on a 45 and works good for me. Your piece on pipe and tubing was pretty good as well. Thanks for taking the time to show your skills
Definitely subscribed... I learned more by watching this video than i knew before.. so easily explained. thanks for taking the time to show your skills..
I can’t believe it, I’m watching this video, I notice the 423 area code on your bender, I live about a mile from jd sqaured in Tennessee, what a tiny world!
Not at all the same field of work but this was exactly the information I needed for bending the tubing for the cooling loop I'm putting together for a computer.
Very good info! I have the exact same bender, but recently stepped up my game to the Model 54 and bought BendTech software for designing in the computer. I'm very happy with both.
+Beach N Wheelchairs Right on! I've stuck the the Model 3 over the years even after having many opportunities to upgrade. Something about the simplicity really keeps it bolted to my floor. Thanks for watching!
You've got a new subscriber!I've been looking all over and by chance found your site You have done a great job in presentation and educating . You just made my day easier. Thanks for doing this!!Best.
So I have the model 32 bender which is basically the same bender except it's build stronger to handle 2", 1/4" wall round tube. The other difference is that it had an anti-spring back pin and two of the ratcheting bars (whatever you want to call them. The things that look like they have very large saw blade teeth. lol). One of those is used to keep tension on the tube and not let it spring back during the bending process. I've always read that letting the tube spring back during the bending process is not a good thing. However while watching you bend your tubing I realize that you are using that "limitation" in your bender that let's the tubing spring back between resetting the handle to the next tooth as a tool to insure you are at the exact bend angle you need to be at. While bending tube with a hydraulic bender or the model 32 with the anti-spring back aspect of the bender you can't do that. I've found it to be extremely difficult to judge that spring back to insure that the angle of the bend is spot on. As you already know. being 1 or 2 degrees off on a short piece isn't really that big of an issue in most cases. However being 1 or 2 degrees off in a long piece is a very big deal. How do you recommend dealing with this problem? Hell after watching these videos I'm seriously thinking about tossing my air over hydraulic setup that I build and going back to a manual bender and eliminating the anti-spring back aspect of the bender. The only issue I have with doing that is that bending 1/4" wall 2" tubing is not something you can do in a manual setup. Now I know this isn't something I'll need to do all the time but when I do need to do it I'd like to not have to completely rebuild my air over hydraulic setup so I can make a few bends. BTW. The more I watch your videos the more I feel blessed that you are creating these. You're an awesome teacher and see these video leading you into something big. This is by far the best vehicle fabrication channel on youtube. I'm so much more appreciative for this content that you will ever know. You're teaching me things that I've struggled to figure out on my own and giving me tips that help me refine what I already know. This content is something I have always wanted someone to show me since I was a child. So thank you.
+Alvarez Metal Works Here is the quickest answer I can offer. I follow what you are saying and I have experienced the headache before. If you plan to keep the hydraulic setup, you'll need to make a few bends out of some scraps to determine the number of degrees over that you'll need to add for spring back. You should bend a 30, 60, and 90 degree band manually and note how much extra you need to add. When you bend with the hydraulic setup, just bend to the degree that you determined will compenate for the spring back. Mak sure you do this for every grade of tube you use (ERW, DOM, CMLY, etc.) Let me know if that makes sense. I can try to explain a different way if not.
I makes since and is what I thought I'd have to do. I was just hoping I was making it more complicated that it really is lol. I guess not. Going to have to make a bunch of notes, cheaters and test pieces at some point. On the bright side I only have two die sets at the moment so it won't be that bad right out the gate lol. The Jew in my says to not waste any metal so I try my best to not do a bunch of test pieces on anything I do. I can see that I really don't have a choice when it comes to this though. Consider it an investment lol. Thank you again. BTW I sent you a message on FB.
Thank you for the content! :) I think of Bender the robot and it's impressive how much stuff he should have known to actually be a bender and he manages to do all the measurements and stuff while on booze. I think I will never reach his heights. I mean, in bending of course.
you need to tack weld a little peg on the bender post to hang that crescent wrench on! lol Wish these videos had been around about 5 years ago, when I had to bend all this SS tubing for a specialty fire protection system. Had never bent tubing prior to that, and your explanations would have saved a lot of miss-bent tubing!! Nice video, great explanations!!!
+Fred Newman Thanks! Funny story - I did have a peg on the bender stand for a little bit, but I was always running around looking for the wrench when it was hanging on the peg. I ended up losing so much time looking for it because I kept forgetting that I hung it up on the peg.
Excellent video's mate, I have been wondering about stepping into the tube fabrication/bending side of things and after watching all your various videos I took the plunge today and brought a JD2 model 32 bender and some dies and a JD2 notch master as I had the cash spare. looking forward to more of your videos, thanks Marc UK
I feel like I could build my own exo cage now.. however I know it would take me all day just to make the 1st two tubes. Great videos thanks, for posting these.
Great videos! Great explanations!. I used to do it that way, but when I started getting busy in the shop, I bought a software program called Bend-Tech. Great program, easy to use. Does all the calculations for you. But for beginners, I think your videos are great. It gives the beginner the insight of what's happening.
Fun stuff. But, at 17:49 you don't show us that the "offset" bend did not lay tightly up the corner of the pattern between the two 45 planes. You needed to measure up the corner between the two 45 planes (or calculate this angle). That angle is more than 45 degrees and the starting point is different.
Great videos! How close can you put the offset bend to the first bend? Was not sure about the restriction in the tube bender or is it a function of the radius you are using.
good video but you chose the easiest offset possible. I’d like to see you change the 45s to something like 30 and 60, then space them 3” apart and see how you would do that. Also this is way easier when you doing a tiny 1:10 scale model on a bench. When I bend conduit for electrical work, alot of the time there is nothing to reference the angle from because it’s 10’ away and there is shit in the way. It a lot of guess, test fit, bend guess, test fit, bend.
Nice work on these videos, I was really looking forward to these. I just started my first rock crawler cage for a buggy I'm building on my channel and the offset point of view stuff is really boggling my mind...that and trying to put 5 different offset bends at the correct angle on a 10' or longer tube. Do you have an in depth notching video series, specifically a 45 tube that meets two other already at a 90? Anyway, we should do a collaboration at some point.
+BleepinJeep Thank you. I had a viewer suggest bending a wire, such as a welding rod, in the same shape as the offset. It would work well for small bends, but for a continuous length, you'll probably have to get some small diameter bar stock if you want a visual reference like that. I've had a bunch of requests for specific notches since there are millions. The best thing to do is email or message me with some form visual like a drawing or some tubes laid out so I can see the specific notch you are going after. 9 times out of 10 I can draw it out for you. We might be able to put something together in the future. All depends on the schedule. Just drop me a line if you have an idea for an episode.
I bend electrical tubing all the time. A pro tip for yall. Klein makes a digital angle finder for 30 bucks and it is amazing and to fix a dog leg (offset) buy yourself a “no dog” super cheap little helper so your pipe doesn’t bark
You really do a great job of explaining what your looking for in the finished product and telling us how to get there. What type of tubing are you using for this “how to” bending series #1 & #2. From Missouri, thank you.
A small bendable piece of wire helps with visualizing which way the bends need to go on the offsets
+gsppuffer This is a tip I wish I would have remembered to add. I can see offsets in my head, but I would have liked to have added this bit of info. Hopefully it will get to the top comments for others to see.
close hanger wire would do good for visualization for bends yes you're right

Excellent video's mate, I have been wondering about stepping into the tube fabrication/bending side of things and after watching all your various videos I took the plunge today and brought a JD2 model 32 bender and some dies and a JD2 notch master as I had the cash spare. looking forward to more of your videos, thanks Marc UK
+KINZY1 Congrats on the purchase! I'm glad the vids gave you the will to have a go at it. Good luck!
At 75 I’m learning to tig & MiG weld your videos are great. THANKS
Thank you for putting up these videos, very educational. Appreciate the effort you put in.
I feel like I could build my own exo cage now.. however I know it would take me all day just to make the 1st two tubes. Great videos thanks, for posting these.
fantastic video ... super fluent in explanation and the actual work . great
Thanks for watching!
Holy shit you Sir need more subscribers!!
Share share share. They'll come along eventually.
wow you put a hyperlink to part one in the description. that's pretty rare. thanks, now i can easy find part one.
great vid man, sorted all the probs for my camp bed project!
Can't wait now to get a bender and start making some things on my off road project.
Awesome video's. Extremely helpful. Subscribed. I appreciate you helping people like me out just getting into the bending game.
Right on. Thanks for the sub!
Man you need to be a Teacher... Awesome videos and how you explain the process.... Now I know how to measure everything thanks man 👍
Thank you! Your videos have given me another level of confidence! Thank you )))
Awesome explanations! Really enjoy your videos and your craftsmanship! Keep up the great work!
+John McDonnell Thank you!
And again .. another great lesson. Thank you!
Great videos! Great explanations!. I used to do it that way, but when I started getting busy in the shop, I bought a software program called Bend-Tech. Great program, easy to use. Does all the calculations for you. But for beginners, I think your videos are great. It gives the beginner the insight of what's happening.
Best explanation I have seen on TH-cam! I'm going to go bend myseslf some cheater tubes right now.
+Naegling Thanks!
Fun stuff. But, at 17:49 you don't show us that the "offset" bend did not lay tightly up the corner of the pattern between the two 45 planes. You needed to measure up the corner between the two 45 planes (or calculate this angle). That angle is more than 45 degrees and the starting point is different.
Thanks what a guy giving information with passion
Thanks!
This is a very good video. You are a very good presenter.
i really appreciate your talent that you share
Really like the info here. Presented really well.
+LD9user Thank you!
This is a great series of videos. I have learn so much. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
excelente explicación. me agrada que comparta su conocimiento. me es de mucha utilidad . gracias. saludos.
+SERGIO SALDAÑA Thank you!
Outstanding my brother
Great channel. Very informative enjoyable to watch and no bullshit 👍
How much the binder lake that?
Thank you for the great instructional video... lots of great tips and tricks.
Excellent video however the 3D double 45 degree compound bend included angle is greater than 45 degrees.
Thanks man, definitely saving these to my favorites; the videos are much appreciated. Keep up the good work!
+theomnipresent1 Thanks!
Love your work, thanks for taking time to share your knowledge and skills!!!!
God bless you richly
I bend electrical tubing all the time. A pro tip for yall. Klein makes a digital angle finder for 30 bucks and it is amazing and to fix a dog leg (offset) buy yourself a “no dog” super cheap little helper so your pipe doesn’t bark
Best bending instructional videos ever 👍👏
You really do a great job of explaining what your looking for in the finished product and telling us how to get there. What type of tubing are you using for this “how to” bending series #1 & #2. From Missouri, thank you.
